Team Zombillies reviewed this attraction on October 14, 2011.

Final Score: 9.38

Fear Fair is in their 11th year since the start and their 9th year at the current Freeman Field location. This year, haunters will be introduced to Fear Fair’s new ‘Hangar 17’ theme as well as their ever-changing ‘Cinema of Fears’ that keeps customers coming back year after year! These guys have kicked it up a notch with some outstanding new props, nauseating gore, unreal special effects and your favorite movie characters are back with some bad attitudes! Be sure to swing through Seymour, Indiana this year and check out ‘Fear Fair: Indiana’s Premier Haunted Attraction!’

Cast: 9.51

Fear Fair’s cast is compiled of 65-80 volunteers (varying each night). Each of them attend an in-house ‘boot camp’ style training session before the season begins to make sure everyone is at the top of their game. A few workers from Baxter Avenue Morgue (Louisville) are brought in as well to help with training. Their efforts were not in vain. Every character in the attraction is interactive, in context with the theme, knows what their roles are and makes sure that everyone in the group gets a scare!

Costuming: 9.38

Costumes and masks are both made in-house as well as purchased. Makeup is provided by a designated, professional group of 6 talented crew members, some of which even double as actors. Costume detail is second to none as characters are incredibly authentic from head to toe. Fear Fair prides themselves with having some of the most realistic movie characters in the region. Each costume in the 1st half of the haunt is military-based in one form or another. Soldiers and monsters/zombies are easily identified as well as nurses and other medical staff such as the haunt’s mad scientist who will be sure to get a ‘jolt’ out of somebody in your group. The 2nd half of the haunt showcases some of your favorite movie characters with unbelievable detail. Continuing crowd favorites are Jason Voorhees, Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Leatherface, The Creeper and characters from movies like ‘My Bloody Valentine,’ ‘Scream,’ ‘Hellraiser’ and ‘Saw.’

Customer Service: 8.88

Plenty of lit parking is available across the road from the attraction or along the roads nearby. Concessions and souvenirs are available for purchase near the ticket stand and the waiting area is outside so dress appropriately for those cold October nights in case there is a long line. There are a few trip and head-knocking hazards inside the haunt and some of the stairs are poorly lit so watch your step, but don’t forget to watch your head too. There are plenty of well-marked exits throughout the attraction and emergency action plans are in effect if the need arises. The friendly Fear Fair staff are also available to answer any of your questions or help you out in any other way. Roaming actors interact with customers who are waiting in line and entertain them with chainsaw chases after those who thought they were lucky enough to make it out alive!

Atmosphere: 9.2

Fear Fair is located in an old U.S. Army barracks building at Freeman Field in Seymour, IN. The authentic building and new additions that the crew has made to the building really adds to the haunt’s military theme. Red rotating lights on the exterior and entrance to the attraction are also a nice touch. Realistic sound effects fill the attraction with eye-popping gunshots, skin-crawling screams and gut-wrenching groans that pierce the silence and remove all doubt that you are at one of the best haunts in Indiana!

Special Effects: 9.5

Special effects continue to be one of Fear Fair’s strong points with their giant tesla coil, the addition of the ‘Slayer,’ real machine guns, moving rooms, and updated movie scenes that stay authentic with today’s newest horror flicks. Unbelievable detail is given to every square inch of the haunt which makes it nearly impossible to see everything this attraction has to offer. From the horrifying accuracy of the Jeepers Creepers, Friday the 13th, Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, Scream and Saw scenes to the incredible detail of the Texas Chainsaw, military, hospital and laboratory scenes, Fear Fair is one haunt you’ll want to see over and over again just to make sure you didn’t miss anything!

Theme: 9.75

Fear Fair’s has two themes for 2011. The first half of the attraction is military based and includes everything from the government’s latest secret experiment to the hospital that pieces together the remnants of torsos that weren’t lucky enough to make it back. The second half is called ‘Cinema of Fears.’ Here you will find your most feared and favorite movie characters that no other haunt can duplicate like Fear Fair can.

Fright Effect: 9.26

Fear Fair strives to make sure that customers get what they pay for with excellent special effects, awesome acting and authentic costumes. Actors have awesome scenes and scare zones and make sure everyone in your group goes home with a rapid heart rate. Distraction is used in multiple areas as well as strategic lighting, scented fog, strobes and the ability for actors to touch for an all-out assault on the senses. Some scenes are easier to predict when scares will come, unlike others that are complete surprises and sure to send somebody home needing a change of underwear.

Value: 9.56

Fear Fair has quite a list of prices, group discounts and coupons available to make sure everyone gets the deal they’re looking for. Keep in mind it took our review group an estimated 20-25 minutes to complete our tour through the attraction. General admission is $15 and V.I.P. tickets go for $20 which will get you a trip to the front of the line. A ‘combo’ ticket will get you general admission plus one of the haunts t-shirts, valued at $15 by itself. Group discounts include 15 people for $150 and 20 people for $200… that’s only $10 per person! So grab some friends and head to Fear Fair this Halloween season, but check them out online for giveaways and coupons. Be warned, however, if you purchase tickets online through their website, a service fee is applied to the total.
