Final Score: 9.17

Summary:

Having the opportunity to review Scare-A-torium for multiple years we have seen this haunt evolve and become a beast in the industry. This being its 4th season it delivers and is worth the visit. Having the opportunity to stay in this location gave the cast, crew, and owners the opportunity to work all summer to create something extraordinary. With new effects such as 3D, which you have to experience, to the favorite’s, such as Big Mama we are sure you will not be disappointed Scare-A-Torium has some of the best in the industry and this year they ate their Wheaties and came out swinging because we were blown away. So gather a group of friends and go have a great time. Also tell the coffin sales specialist you would like yours to be 1/ 2 price because he can get you a great deal.

Cast: 9.5

Scare-A-Torium has a large number of actors that want to do more than act; they want you to not come out of their haunt alive. These haunt employs 110 cast members. On the average night you will see between 55-64 actors giving the performance of a lifetime. They have lots of veterans on board who keep their skills sharp and learn new tactics in the classes and seminars throughout the year. One of our favorite veterans is “Big Mama”. Every year she is at the haunt giving it hell and we look forward to seeing her. There are few newbies but this will not show in the acting due to the zone trainer to give them hands on coaching. Scare-A-Torium interviews and auditions their cast so that they can bring you the best of the best. Each cast member must take classes and lessons on character development and acting. This being the 4th season this cast is no joke. Such a large cast they work together flawlessly and create many great experiences for the patrons. The Scare-A-Torium has an amazing cast.

Costuming: 9.4

Scare-A-Torium delivers in costuming and makeup. If you are looking for a haunt with unique character, this is the place for you. Scare-A-Torium has 13 make-up artists showing you some of the best of the business. On any average night there are at least 5 makeup artists on hand. The makeup artist are led by, Mr. Keith Newsome, who is an industry favorite. Having employed some of the best in the business in make-up allows this haunt to limit the use of mask which gives each of the 62 scenes a unique experience. Each character is given the perfect look with make-up and costuming which not only enhances the character but adds depth to the scene. Every character with all the right costuming and the right scenes makes this a believable haunt which adds to the scare factor. Just when you think it is not real, you might be fooled because the costuming can play tricks on you. Don’t miss this year because they have done nothing but get better.

Customer Service: 9.5

Scare-A-Torium might be one of the easiest haunts to find. It has numerous advertisements, signs, radio spots and in a central location. This is the second year in the same spot, so if you went last year you know right where you are headed. Scare-A-Torium is located in a strip mall that has ample parking with handicap spaces and is well lit. The queue lines and attraction is all indoors so the weather is never an issue. They are handicap accessible so everyone can enjoy his haunt. They have safety and emergency plans in place so you never have to worry. Inside if you have questions feel free to ask any staff member and they are dying to help you. This is also a family haunt. Bring the kids and if they get scared they will give them a flash light tour and help them enjoy the rest of the night. They also offer lights on tours during certain days and times for the little ones. They have Scare-A-Torium merchandise for sale, they have concessions, and they also sell costumes for you to wear during Halloween. They also have make-up artist out and about giving demonstrations and will paint give you a unique face painting.

Atmosphere: 9

The atmosphere for the Scare-A-Torium this year is bigger and better than the years past. Having the opportunity to stay in the same location gave the haunt an added bonus. When you get to the door this year you will be greeted and you will get the rules, what to expect, and what to do if you chicken out. This year we were greeted by Big Mama, who always is a riot. As you walk through the doors you are created by fog and ear piercing screams of victims who need out. As you wind through the lines you will see creatures who have made it out and are trying to get dinner early. Front and center is massive structure with warning signs, that was built by Matt Steel. You then are self guided through about twenty eight thousand square feet of not only Colonel Frightmore’s collection of horrid things but Stinker’s clowns and all their zany antics.

Special Effects: 9

Scare-A-Torium is a haunted attraction that likes to use a nice blend of man-made special effects and store bought special effects. They do this very well and one does not overshadow the other. They have always been a leader in the industry in this area and this year is no different. The make-up and costuming always adds to the special effect. Innovation in creepy concepts and always pushing the envelope for more makes this a great haunt. Scare-A-Torim does an amazing job of not going over the top with special effects, but just the right blend to create the best experience. They have amazing artist on staff that always adds a bonus to this area. This year if you are a lover of 3D, Scare-A-Torium is the place for you. They used their artist and innovations to come up with something that truly amazed us all.

Theme: 9

There are two distinct haunts at the Scare-A-Torium. There is the Scare-A-Torium which is about Colonel Frightmore. It is the story of his many travels around the world collecting oddities, creepies and not so normal creatures and bringing them home and proudly putting them on display for you to viewHis home has room for all the creepiness plus a morgue and grave yard and so much more. Given this theme they are able to capitalize on using many elements to enhance the theme and not be stuck to one particular thing.
The second part of the haunt is the Rip Stinkers Funhouse and Lyncon Laboratory in 3-D. This is where clowns big, small, creepy and funny are all around you. If you are Coulrophobia, this is definitely not the place for you. When the clowns are not in your face they are on the walls and in 3D. The Lyncon Laboratory is where the the toxic waste will get to your head before the monsters do. Good luck finding your way out because all the toxic fumes will cloud your judgment.

Both are distinctly different part of the haunt. However, both follow their theme very well and do a great job of leading you through a believable story. They both utilize all parts to create experiences that flow with the theme of the haunt and the experiences are incrediable.

Fright Effect: 9

Scare-A-Torium in its 4th year is taking prisoners and ripping lungs out. This has to be the best year to date. Having the ability to stay in the same location as last year gave them ample opportunity to create a spine tingling year. They have taken a step back and redesigned and edited scenes so that it makes perfect sense as you are running for your life. They have incorporated new idea and designs that will blow your mind. Combining everything plus being able to work on it all summer long presents you the patron with a frightful night of screaming and second guessing. They have something for everyone whether it be chomper or the lady around the corner beckoning you with just one finger.

Value: 9
