Summary:

Nightmare on Edgewood has been delivering frights to customers under their current management for 6 years, but has been operating in the haunt industry for a total of 36 years! This attraction offers 4 diverse themes within 4 immersive haunts all at ONE location! We are warning you that this is an intense, full contact, action-packed haunted attraction experience, so be prepared to have your worst fears pushed to their limits! New for 2014 is Hysteria, where “your phobias have just given way to HYSTERIA!” Inside this dark maze of fears lies slithering, crawling, and hissing phobias that are just waiting for you and your friends to make the wrong move! Watch out for the certifiable lunatics that you will come across in Schizophrenia! These cooks have obviously forgotten their medication, and have conjured up a festival of craziness for all to take part in! Next up is Pandemonium, where chaos, anarchy, and an overall feeling of being lost lies within! The crew residing within these twists and turns will be sure no man or woman in your group is left out of their taunting the entire way through! Old School Fright proved to be the hardest attraction to make it out of with all of our limbs during our visit! Sheltered inside these sickening walls are several familiar horror villains along with some you will be glad you haven’t seen or heard of before! The only other thing we can tell you about this one is to be prepared to possibly lose your head! Ever wonder what it feels like to be buried alive? Well now you can have your chance in The Last Ride! This is a coffin ride simulator that will allow you to hear, feel, smell, and see what being buried alive feels like. If an adrenaline-rushing, heart-pumping evening is what you are looking for and you think you are “man enough” to take on the extremity that Nightmare on Edgewood may throw at you, literally, then we dare you to pay them a visit during the Halloween season!

Cast: 9.46

Approximately 55 to 60 energetic volunteer cast members flood these attractions on a typical night. This cast did an excellent job at delivering an intense, verbally and physically interactive and mentally assaulting environment for our group! They definitely verified their legitimacy by pushing us up against walls, attacking us, stealing several of our group members on multiple occasions, shoving body parts in our mouths, and intimidatingly touching us with their weapons! These guys basically let us know right from the beginning that they weren’t there to take any crap and for your own safety, we highly suggest that you don’t give them any! Some of these characters were also down-right frightening due to their demanding dialogue and requests, including the female dentist who insisted that no matter how wide we opened, she wanted us to open wider and those we encountered in the butcher area! The actors also worked well with one another and their surroundings quite well. The movie characters looked their parts and carried through with the majority of the threats they were making which enhanced their believability as well. The actors and actresses fulfilled their roles throughout and even when the chainsaw assailant realized we weren’t timid of his saw, he continued to verbally interact with us!

Costuming: 8.96

Costumes incorporated a mixture of purchased and modified items to best suit the characters wearing them. It was harder for us to see full outfits in the dark areas, so with that being said, the majority of the attire we could see seemed to match the scenes they were used in, varying appropriately for each attraction. Some realistic makeup added authenticity to the characters as well as additional bloody, grungy apparel. Many relevant masks were used, including several that appeared to be silicone, making it hard for us to tell that they were, indeed masks! A few of the costumes that stood out to us due to their believability include the one who tried to scalp us, the puppet, Barney, Freddy Krueger, Michael Myers, and the clowns.

Customer Service: 9.45

A search light beaming into the sky along with a very bright, rotating, amber light made it hard for us to miss Nightmare on Edgewood! Plenty of signs and flaggers directed us to the free, paved parking area. Friendly and helpful staff can be found at the entrance to the ball field, at the ticket booth, and at the entry of the four attractions in case any questions or concerns arise. Waiting lines have been roped off and have signs for you to follow so you can be sure you are getting in the correct line. A concession trailer was parked outside Hysteria and The Last Ride selling t-shirts, hoodies, snacks, and drinks! A large screen was entertaining the first queue line while a few characters and possibly other unique acquaintances may keep you occupied while you wait to enter Hysteria and The Last Ride. Uneven ground was encountered during our journey so be sure to watch your step!

Atmosphere: 9.1

As we approached the ticket booth, loud rock music, rumbles of a chainsaw, and escaping screams were heard and confirmed that we were, in fact, at a haunted house! Once we made it past the ticket stand, the feeling of a haunt continued to become more apparent. The large screen overlooking the main queue line, multiple staff running around, appealing signs for the attractions, and several roaming characters (including a puppet scraping his shovel against the ground) aided in preparing us to enter! However, the atmosphere outside is nowhere near as energetic and fierce as what was encountered on the inside, so don’t let it fool you!

Special Effects: 9.11

Nightmare on Edgewood takes pride in building the majority of their effects themselves, so many original items can be noticed here. Sound effects accompanying some of the scenes were appropriate, realistic, and some assisted in heightening the overall intensity, such as the loud Dubstep, what was heard in Freddy’s area, and an emergency broadcasting! You won’t see a lot of eye candy at this attraction because the effects they use are meant to scare you, and not necessarily look pretty. As soon as we would start scanning our surroundings, they would abruptly distract our attention to something else, keeping us focused on what was getting ready to happen next! This crew worked well with their surroundings and props, using them to their advantage to target our group multiple times! Some of the effects we observed include sliding floors, laser lights, an over-turned car, two uncomfortable bridges/walkways, crunchy bugs, a freezer full of body parts, a bottomless pit, claustrophobic passageway, uniquely hidden doors, dropping floors, and a wall that we suggest you don’t stand in front of very long! You may also come face-to-face with some real creatures here, but we aren’t going to fill you in on what since that would ruin the surprise! You will just need to pay them a visit and find out for yourselves!

Theme: 9.4

Each attraction at Nightmare on Edgewood offers a diverse theme and, after entering each one, it was apparent to our group what each one was based upon. The first attraction, Schizophrenia, is run by crazed clowns who will do everything in their power to get under your skin and try to scare you into becoming just as psychotic as they are! The second attraction, Pandemonium, is an overall creepy predicament where everything you run into wants to harm or kill you and you must quickly figure out which way to go or what to do! Third you will enter Nightmare on Edgewood’s new attraction for 2014, Hysteria! In Hysteria, you will come face-to-face with some of the worst phobias out there, and good luck getting away from them, for this attraction will also leave you guessing which way is the correct way to go! The fourth attraction and most intense, Old School Fright, contains what the name implies, although we believe they will get your heart pounding more than what comes to mind when you think of “old school!” This attraction basically chewed us up and swallowed us! Coincidentally, the last attraction we are going to overview is The Last Ride, where you can “experience the most terrifying ride of your life” and see, feel, hear, and smell what it’s like to actually be buried alive! All of the characters seemed to match their respective scenes and themes during our visit, providing a much more believable experience!

Fright Effect: 9.53

Frist of all, this attraction CAN and WILL touch you, and they will do it a lot, so prepare yourselves! Some of the other types of scare techniques that this attraction threw at our group include demanding dialogue, intimidating characters, down-right scary characters, weapon encounters, a chainsaw chase, tight and uncomfortable corridors, pitch black areas, REAL critters, and we were even attacked by Barney! Yes, Barney the dinosaur that everyone THINKS is friendly. Some good hiding spots were used throughout, especially in Hysteria, that helped in keeping the scares unpredictable. This attraction also goes after everyone in the group, not just the front or the back of the line. However, the back did seem to get it the worst since we would turn around and our last group member would be missing! Old School Fright and Schizophrenia proved to be very intense as they tried to scalp us, push us up against the walls, and they even tried to get us to commit acts of cannibalism! Hysteria and Pandemonium had more of a psychological approach, although there were still plenty of unpleasant surprises encountered in them too! This is also one of those attractions where we suggest that you leave loose articles in the car, unless you are okay with them disappearing from your body. They just might end up on someone they didn’t come in with!

Value: 9.63

Nightmare on Edgewood consists of 4 differently-themed haunts for a single price of $20.00! VIP admission is available for $30.00 and includes all 4 haunted houses PLUS The Last Ride! The Last Ride tickets can be purchased by themselves for $5.00. It took our group approximately 26 minutes to escape the strong wraths of these killers and madmen, putting this value at 1.3 minutes of entertainment per dollar spent! Combine this price with the extreme, highly-energized entertainment that we encountered inside and you have yourself a very price-slaughtering deal! The time it will take you inside these attractions will greatly depend on how long it takes you to find your way out, run out, or sneak away from the heathens within! Be sure to visit their website for coupons and to check out their haunt-related merchandise! Due to the extreme nature of this attraction, we don’t advise that you bring children but they DO offer a “kids light on tour” that will take place earlier in the evening on October 25th! If you are looking for an intense, hands-on, full-throttle experience, then make sure Nightmare on Edgewood is on your list and “Just remember, running or walking, they always catch you!”
