Final Score: 8.06
Lance and his amazing team have kept the Dayton Scream Park in working order going on 14 years in 2015! It is easy to see why this is an attraction that keeps running year after year. It has all the right elements working together in its favor. With a large and uniquely talented cast, they are sure to give you thrills and chills of a lifetime. There are three distinct attractions covering many acres that will keep the screams coming for hours. If you are in the area make Dayton Scream Park a haunt to attend with some great friends. They enjoy your screams, so they will make sure they get them from you no matter what it takes.
Lance runs a crew at Dayton Scream Park that impresses me. On an average night you will find about 60 cast members in the trail, 15 in another section and 6 or so in a third section. So on most average nights it takes 90- 100 cast members to run the Dayton Scream Park. Most people might not think anything about this crew of 100, but this is 100 non- paid volunteers! They are taking time out of their busy weekends to scare the life out of you for the love of the haunt, which is impressive if I say so myself. Many of them continue to have perfect attendance for multiple seasons and some have even been there for years which shows their strong dedication towards the haunt. If they have perfect attendance all season they get $100 which is an incentive to make sure the park always has enough actors. Overall the cast did a great job and brought the haunts to life. Some of the more memorable characters were the stilt walker and the giant baby. We continue to be amazed at this huge cast and their passion for their haunt.
In this department the Dayton Scream Park utilizes team work to help one another. So not only are they creating great costumes, but they are team building as well. This haunt does utilize about 30% masks in their costuming, but there is a logical reason behind this. Due to the cast being out in the woods, sometimes the natural elements would ruin their makeup creations, causing them to have to keep getting touched up. This was leaving bare spots in the haunt, so in a better attempt to keep the haunt scary and believable to you, they utilize quite a few masks since they hold up to the weather better. Each character fits into their scene and enhances the story telling of the haunt. This cast can be creative with their scenes as they can put their own twist on the characters that go into them. With that being said, you may see some characters here that you haven’t seen before. I would love to see Dayton Scream Park get an iconic character who is the face of the park and see what it’s costuming would look like, but only time will tell if they decide to go that route.
Customer Service: 8.5
Lance and his amazing team at Dayton Scream Park take pride in their customer service and safety. Safety is a top priority here and every year they have to pass safety and fire inspections to be open. The staff is always available and utilizes radios so they can get help or answer questions quickly and efficiently. As soon as we arrived there was someone there to guide us to the free parking or drop off area. The parking area was well-lit. We are impressed that even while running a haunt on a super busy night, Lance was able to keep the haunt running at top notch while taking time out of his busy routine to talk to us. Thank you for your time!
Why spend your money at an overpriced theme park when Dayton Scream Park gives you everything. It gives you the fun/theme park element from the moment you step out of your car. Vendors, fair food, photo ops and much more will greet you upon arrival, but don’t let that fool you. You will hear the screams and see people running for their lives as you approach from your car. Once you get in line the freaky factor starts and the dark already starts to play tricks on your mind. Just being outside adds an element of creepiness to begin your trail off right.
Special Effects: 8
Say what, you are going to throw that fridge away? We will take it. You throwing out pallets, why? We will take them. This is what I can imagine Lance and his design team saying in the off season. Dayton Scream Park uses special effects that consist of everyday things and turn them into your best nightmare. I have to say this is one of my personal favorite things about this haunt because as I take a step back, I say I could have done that but I didn’t even think about it like their creative minds did. Some of the special effects for this haunt are utilized because they have the advantage of being outside in the woods. Special effects come from using different vehicles, yes I said vehicles! Another is the ability of the actors being friends with nature and the trees. I’m not going to spoil the fun but it’s all around.
It is all in the name at Dayton Scream Park. In the beginning it’s very much like a carnival with shopping, foods, fun and a great time. The rest of the haunt reminds us of a huge park that you are just running through to save your life. The screams are plentiful and can be heard throughout, as well as other things. Every part of the scream park has its own horrific story but they can all be easy linked together to create a grand theme.
Fright Effect: 8
Dayton Scream Park is just that. You will hear and eventually be participating in the screaming of terror. You will never escape the terror as it is always around you and being in the woods makes it hard to always see it until it is too late. With three distinct areas of horror there is definitely a place for everyone to cry for their mommy. With the utilization of things you see every day, an amazing cast with passion and ongoing changes, the Dayton Scream Park should make it onto your list of haunted houses that make you scream your head off.
Dayton Scream Park is a great haunt and they are asking a fair price. It has FREE parking which is always a bonus. $20 will get you into all 3 great attractions. It is $25 for the VIP lane which puts you in the front of the line on busy nights and the park has a lot of those, so the $5 extra may be worth the investment. Make sure you take plenty of money because there is delicious fair food, things to buy, photo ops and much more. We think $20 is a fair price for the amount of scares this haunt gives you.
