Summary:
Deep in the heart of Roanoke, Virginia, Terror Manor is a haunted house that’s been terrifying visitors for six years. With its sprawling 59,000 square feet of haunted hallways and rooms, this attraction is a nightmare factory. The cast of over 70 actors is dedicated to creating a truly terrifying experience.
We stepped into our journey through the outside maze which served as a prelude to the main attraction. It was kind of like an appetizer before the crazies attempted to devour us during the main course. Once we were inside Terror Manor, we met (and were startled by) all kinds of wild and deranged characters. Each room in Terror Manor is a new nightmare, crafted to haunt your dreams and make you doubt the reality of your surroundings. As we ventured deeper into the haunted house, it got more chilling and creepy. We were met with a constant attack of scares, from unexpected animatronics to chillingly realistic characters.

Cast Review:
The cast at Terror Manor created a truly immersive and terrifying experience. Each character was well-developed and played to perfection, contributing to the overall atmosphere of fear and dread. The actors’ dedication to staying in character and interacting with visitors made Terror Manor feel like a living nightmare.
Gothana, the Devilish Preacher, was particularly chilling with her haunting recitation of scripture. Rambling Nancy, the contorted schoolgirl, was both unnerving and oddly captivating. Mr. Squishy, the monstrous figure, was a physical embodiment of fear. And Mr. Tinkles, the lurking clown, was a master of suspense, appearing unexpectedly to startle and terrify.
The rest of the clowns in the big top love to cut up, carry on, scare you and lull you into a conversation while the walls around you may or may not be moving and talking. Do not say you were not warned.

Costuming Review:
Terror Manor’s dedication to in-house costuming and makeup was evident in the exceptional quality and realism of each character’s appearance. Gothana’s over-the-top devilish pastor look worked hand in hand with her character. The Buff Sally who wanted to wear our skin was costumed appropriately for their role, adding to the terrifying atmosphere. Dolly is a human baby doll that looked and played the part very well, as if she were lost in another realm.
The masks, created in-house, were both terrifying and believable. The in-house makeup artists did an outstanding job, with realistic effects that added to the horror. While there was one character with slightly less convincing eye makeup, the overall quality of the costumes, and makeup was impressive.

Customer Service Review:
The staff at Terror Manor provided exceptional customer service. They were friendly, helpful, and genuinely cared about our experience. Their support for other area haunts demonstrated their commitment to the local haunted house community. The website was easy to navigate, with clear information on address, pricing, and other relevant details. Parking could be a bit challenging, as there is no dedicated parking lot. We recommend plugging the address into your map in advance to find street parking.
Safety was a top priority at Terror Manor, with over one hundred cameras monitoring the haunt and a dedicated team ensuring visitor safety. As one of only four ADA-accessible haunted houses in Virginia, Terror Manor made the experience accessible to all. Additionally, the on-site merch store, located across the street from the exit, offered a variety of unique and high-quality items, including custom-made latex masks and demented stuffed animals (made by Scott Gibson of Terror Manor), T-shirts, hoodies, and special FX makeup.

Immersion Review:
The immersion at Terror Manor was top-notch, even early in the season. While the queue actors were limited at this time, the towering Robot Monster, a cross between a Transformer and a GWAR band member, provided a terrifying welcome. His elaborate costume, complete with large hooks and spikey shoulders, was a sight to behold. Additionally, Beetlejuice wandered the midway, dressed in his classic character attire.
Photo opportunities with larger-than-life monsters and props, such as an electric chair and casket, added to the immersive experience. The midway enhanced by a fire performer twirling a flaming baton and the distant sounds of screams, howling, and horns from within the haunt. The clowns were working hard to get scares and laughs in the big top area.

Special FX Review:
Terror Manor made the best use of animatronics we have personally ever seen. These familiar figures seemed new and terrifying, repurposed for their own haunt. The details were well-done, and the placement and timing of their scares were almost perfect. Meeting Mommy in the haunt was quite interesting. Her daughter’s fearful screams warning us that she was coming quickly got our attention and then we were face-to-face with her.
While this is not a touch haunt there were several times that we were sprayed with various fluids when we least expected it. Sounds of all kinds from beginning to end kept us on our toes.
Additionally, the nightmare rooms were filled with immersive special effects, including hanging objects, strobes, laser lights, hazers, fog, and blood. Body parts were scattered throughout, adding to the gruesome atmosphere. These elements combined to create a truly horrifying and unforgettable experience.

Scare Factor Review:
Terror Manor delivered scare after scare after scare, keeping us on the edge of our seats from start to finish. Mr. Tinkle is the master of the jump scare and he certainly caught us by surprise.
The variety of scares was impressive, with water sprays, blasts of air, loud noises, surprising animatronics, and monsters lurking around every corner. The haunt made excellent use of several large animatronics, creating a truly imposing presence.
Unlike some haunted houses that focus solely on the first person in the group, Terror Manor ensures that everyone will leave with their hearts beating a little faster. The ending left us face to face with a beast that we will not forget.

E&V Review:
Terror Manor offers a great value with general admission tickets (and higher tiers) priced significantly lower than many other haunted house attractions. Their approach of utilizing top-notch actors and characters within the haunt itself, rather than solely in the midway, sets them apart. While we visited early in the season and the midway was relatively quiet, we anticipate a more lively atmosphere as the season progresses. The few actors roaming the midway, along with the fire thrower and prop photo opportunities, were entertaining.
