Are you ready for a truly terrifying experience? Head on over to Screamville Haunted Attraction to celebrate their 10th season of fear! Screamville is a mostly outdoor haunted attraction located in an enormous cornfield.

This attraction is easy to locate when using GPS. There is a lit sign right off the main road to indicate where you’ll need to turn. Parking attendants will help you get parked in the grass lot. You’ll have to go through security before entering and immediately come upon the ticket booth. Once you purchase your tickets, everything else is easy to locate with all the signage.

Screamville has a sinister backstory. Virgil Branson bought the land expecting to raise his family there, but the land ended up being cursed, and corn was the only thing that would grow. His wife became lost to the corn and the creatures within. Will you become lost to the corn just like Sarah, or will you make it out alive?

Cast: 8.44

1. Did it seem like there were enough actors? (25% of score): 9.25

2. How creative, believable, convincing were they? (35% of score): 8.5

3. How interactive (verbally, physically) were the actors? (20% of score): 7.63

4. Was there a good variety of characters (behavior)? (20% of score): 8.13

The actors inside Screamville were everywhere! There were only one or two areas that were silent and could use an actor to fill the silence. But, overall, they were down every dark, corn-filled area, in every new scene, and around every corner.

Most actors had their own act/character they had to portray. Some just popped out to scare us, versus doing something unique. However, there were several who were very convincing in their roles. The victims in the butcher shop, for example, did an amazing job of playing the victim. They didn’t stand a chance against that crazy butcher. Multiple actors did a fantastic job of pretending to be a statue/prop. We especially loved the Barbie doll and the dead girl in the bedroom. Both looked like a very realistic prop before they started moving!

Other than Virgil Branson, a creepy actor wearing a straw hat in the corn, the teacher, and Bobo the Clown, there was not a lot of unique dialogue used. However, even though they didn’t use a lot of unique dialogue, they still interacted with us using objects in their surroundings. We loved the act by the Teddy Bear, the butcher, the possessed girl, and the upside-down clown.

There was a decent variety of character behaviors. Some of them jumped out to scare us quickly, then went back into hiding, while others behaved in ways that contributed to the show. Some of the jump scares were there to distract us from another scare that was about to happen. We also encountered actors who were crazy, menacing, evil, hilarious, and withdrawn.

Costuming: 8.25

5. How complete, unique, detailed were the costumes, accessories? (35% of score): 7.88

6. Were the masks, makeup creative, detailed, realistic? (30% of score): 8.38

7. How appropriate were the costumes for the respective scenes, themes? (20% of score): 7.75

8. How believable-, detailed-looking were the queue actors? (See Note if N/A) (15% of score): 9.5

Most of the costumes looked very realistic. There were a few that appeared to be standard clothing, but overall, they resembled something that was made for the actor who was wearing them. We especially loved the actors’ costumes, which appeared to be props. The clowns even had some good-looking costumes.

Many of the masks that were worn were found throughout the corn. We enjoyed the Teddy Bear, the scarecrow, and the butcher. It was difficult to see some of the masks in the corn because it was dark, but we could tell they were creepy. The makeup was stunning! Most of the actors found throughout the scenes were wearing makeup. We could tell the makeup was done by a professional. It’s difficult to pick one that was better than another. Each actor who wore makeup looked incredible!

Most of the costumes appeared to fit their respective scenes. There were scenes like the butcher shop that had a butcher and his three victims. We saw many dead characters throughout the haunt. This was fitting as well because we were walking through a cursed cornfield where many people probably died. There were clowns in a circus/freakshow, toys in a child’s bedroom, and scarecrows in the corn.

As always, the queue actors are so much fun to interact with. This attraction is not meant for children, so the actors are not afraid to curse and do things that would be considered offensive. Their costumes and masks/makeup look incredible as well! We always love to see Road Kill!

Customer Service: 9.53

9. How easy was it to locate, park at, navigate the premises? (25% of score): 9

10. Safety (Only dock points for TRULY DANGEROUS hazards!) (30% of score): 9.75

11. How professional, helpful, friendly were the staff members? (25% of score): 10

12. How easy was it to find pertinent information before arrival? (20% of score): 9.25

This attraction is easy to locate using your GPS. There is a lit sign right off the main road showing you where to turn, and the small side road will take you to the main attraction. The first thing you will see is parking attendants showing you where to park. Once you are parked, the main entrance is lit up and has security with metal detectors. Immediately following that are the two ticket booths, where you have several options for tickets. You may purchase a general admission, fast pass, or VIP pass. If you use cash, it will be cheaper. You also have the option of purchasing tickets to the escape room. Once tickets are purchased, the queue can be easily seen, and you’ll just follow the path for whichever ticket you purchased.

Once again, Screamville seemed like there were no safety concerns. There were only one or two places in the corn that were REALLY dark and could have used a bit more light. But overall, we didn’t see anything unsafe. We especially like it when security is at the main gate checking for any weapons.

Screamville’s staff members were very friendly! We had the pleasure of speaking with most of them, and they were all very professional. The mini golf and escape game were a lot of fun, and the staff at each location were easy to speak to, willing to answer any questions we had.

Screamville Haunted Attraction has a well-designed website with a wealth of important information. It includes generic information like the dates/times, ticket pricing, and location. But, you may also find information on the theme, touching policies, and a disclaimer. The only thing I had trouble finding was parking information.

Immersion: 9.38

13. How well did the pre-haunt areas ("vibe") prepare you for the attraction/s? (25% of score): 9.75

14. How obvious, creative, believable was the storyline? (See Note if N/A) (20% of score): 8.63

15. Were you completely, consistently immersed inside the attraction/s? (40% of score): 9.38

16. How well did the "vibe" flow after, between the attraction/s? (15% of score): 9.75

We really enjoyed the pre-haunt atmosphere! Upon walking up to the entrance, we saw spooky decorations and queue actors, and heard great music. They even had the option to purchase mini golf or do the escape room. We had the opportunity to play mini golf and do the escape room. We recommend doing both if you get the chance! And, if you get hungry, there are a couple of food trucks on site as well.

The story behind the haunt is that Virgil Branson bought the land with the intention of raising his family on the farm. He was only able to grow corn on the land, and his wife, Sarah, went crazy and killed their kids. All that’s left are sinister creatures, ghosts, and corn. Upon entering, we are greeted by Virgil, and he asks us to locate Sarah. Throughout the haunt, we stay within the corn and meet the scariest creatures ever found. It is one crazy ride!

Overall, when going through the haunt, we are completely immersed in a haunted cornfield. There are a couple of things within the corn that you wouldn’t normally expect to see, like a museum. But we understood that the land created the strange buildings and creatures, so it seemed to work.

Upon exiting the attraction, we walked right next to a gift shop and the mini golf area. The folks at this tent were very friendly in helping us pick out some merch. We appreciate that the exit is conveniently located right inside the Midway. It allows people to want to stick around after the haunt is over.

Special Effects: 8.54

17. How effective were the sound effects? (20% of score): 8

18. How realistic were the scene designs, details? (30% of score): 9.25

19. How effective, realistic were the props, animatronics? (30% of score): 8.63

20. How well did they use creative, special, sensory effects? (20% of score): 7.88

Screamville did not have as many sound effects as we had hoped, but the ones that were used were effective. We enjoyed the creepy sounds in the main house area and the sounds used in the schoolhouse. In some places, it was complete silence, which sometimes helped promote the creepiness, while other times, it did not help the haunt.

The scenes were amazing! Each scene we encountered had some amazing details. From the main entrance to the main living area, bathroom, child’s bedroom, cemetery, and more, each room had a lot of details!

The props and animatronics were very cool! There were many new ones this year, compared to last year, and they were creepy. We especially loved the new ones in the schoolhouse and the freakshow! Most of them seemed realistic and provided a creepy vibe to the haunt.

Sensory effects were used in a few places throughout the haunt. There were several instances where different lighting effects were used. They even used different things, like laser lights combined with fog, to create a cool illusion. In one area, a different scent was used. It was absolutely disgusting! We won’t give it away, but you’ll know it when you go through.

The Scare Factor: 9.38

21. How scary was it? (35% of score): 9

22. How well did they provide scares to everyone in the group? (15% of score): 9.63

23. How predictable were the scares? (25% of score): 9.63

24. How well did they provide a wide variety (types) of scares? (10% of score): 9.38

25. How strong was the ending / finale? (15% of score): 9.63

Screamville is terrifying! About every 30 seconds, we were experiencing a new scare. We always felt like the scares came when we least expected them. The actors would use each other or animatronics as a distraction to scare us in a different direction. In one area, we had gone through and expected the chainsaw actor to be done chasing us, but boy, were we wrong! He came out of nowhere!

Overall, Screamville was able to provide scares to the entire group. We only have 2 people in our group, but we noticed how the actors were placed and could tell they were prepared for larger groups to come through.

There was a good variety of scares as well. They used disorientation many times. The haunt was pretty dark, and they would provide a sudden burst of light and sound, which increased the fear. The actors used many distractions to make the haunt more intense. There were also several jump scares, blood and gore, phobias, and victimization.

We enjoyed Screamville’s finale so much that we wanted to run out of the attraction. There were multiple surprises that we didn’t expect. We won’t give anything away, you’ll just have to go see for yourself!

Entertainment & Value: 8.6

26. How satisfied with the entertainment provided by the MAIN attraction/s? (50% of score): 8.88

27. How satisfied with OTHER entertainment INCLUDED with the ticket price? (25% of score): 8.13

28. How appropriate is/are the ticket price/s? (25% of score): 8.5

Excluding the main attraction, the entertainment included with the ticket price would include the queue actors, the photo opportunities, and the music. It would have been fun to have a few other things to do while waiting, but the queue actors always do a great job of keeping us entertained. We enjoy the atmosphere of a haunted house, and this place was no different!

We always love coming to Screamville. We spent 19 minutes inside the attraction, and it cost $25 per person. That is a decent amount of entertainment based on the price. Screamville never fails when it comes to entertainment! Come check it out for yourself! And if you have been here in previous years, each year gets better and better!
