Our Must-See selections may include attractions we’ve reviewed, visited, or filmed, along with other haunts that stand out for what they offer, their popularity among haunt fans, or other reasons we think they’re worth checking out.
This is not a ranking or a “10 best” list, and these certainly aren’t the only haunts in New York worth visiting. Think of this as a starting point for building your haunt list. There are plenty more attractions throughout New York waiting to be discovered! This list is in no particular order.
So, where will you scream first?
Frightworld America’s Screampark – Buffalo, New York
Frightworld America’s Screampark in Buffalo packs five distinctly themed haunted houses under one roof, making it one of the largest completely indoor haunt destinations in New York! Guests can move between wildly different environments without ever leaving the building, with large sets, animatronics, detailed costuming, aggressive actors, and plenty of effects that give each attraction its own identity.
For 2026, they will feature an all-new attraction that’s yet to be announced in addition to Grind House, Carnival Boneyard, MAInframe Massace, and Eerie State Asylum. Frightworld earned a 9.22/10 from our team in 2025 and was named their Best Scream Park of the season.

Terror Field – Clyde, New York
Terror Field in Clyde may occupy a relatively compact footprint, but this intense two-story attraction has developed a reputation for making every bit of that space count. Actor interaction is a huge part of the experience, with characters getting directly in guests’ faces, improvising dialogue, using dark humor, and keeping the energy high as groups move through narrow halls and increasingly uncomfortable situations.
Terror Field is changing things significantly for 2026 with The Rest eZ Inn, transforming the experience into an abandoned roadside inn where guests become part of the nightmare. The new concept emphasizes tight spaces, personal encounters, and limited nightly capacity, with groups capped at six to help keep the scares intimate and unpredictable.

Frightmare Farms Haunted Scream Park – Fulton, New York
Frightmare Farms Haunted Scream Park in Fulton brings four different haunted experiences together on a rural Central New York property, mixing indoor attractions with dark trails and a hayride for a night that changes considerably depending on where guests are headed next. For 2026, the lineup includes The Haunted Estate: Extraction, The Twisted Labyrinth presents: Harvest of Shadows, The Terror Trail presents: Infestation, and The Forbidden Forest Hayride presents: The Bloodshiners!
Now entering its 15th season of fear, Frightmare Farms has continued growing from a backwoods haunt into a full scream park while keeping its rural setting at the center of the experience. Guests can encounter detailed indoor environments, darkness in the woods, creatures along the trails, and scenes built throughout the farm before returning to the common areas between attractions.
Opening night: September 26th
Know Before You Go: Four haunted attractions, free parking, indoor/outdoor experience, food and concessions, midway/games, merchandise, General Admission and VIP options available, online tickets are date-specific, and operates rain or moonshine.
Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Attractions – Ulster Park, New York
Headless Horseman Hayrides and Haunted Attractions in Ulster Park has been terrifying guests for more than 30 years across a massive 65-acre property in the historic Hudson Valley. What begins with its iconic theatrical hayride continues through an enormous collection of walking trails, haunted houses, mazes, elaborate environments, original monsters, and effects built into the natural woods, orchards, ponds, and historic property.
For 2026, Headless Horseman is advertising 13 attractions, with the hayride transformed into The Cursed Earth of Crow Hollow. The new story follows a cursed water source that spreads corruption through the land, transforming the living, raising the dead, and awakening something connected to the Horseman himself. The remaining experience continues through multiple attractions after the wagon ride, making this much more than a traditional haunted hayride.
Opening night: September 26th
Know Before You Go: Massive indoor/outdoor experience, allow several hours for your visit, timed ticketing, advance reservations strongly recommended, food and drinks available, The Horseman’s Tavern serves beer and wine after the experience, and appropriate footwear is strongly recommended. Children’s Days are offered separately on select October dates.
Gateways Haunted Playhouse – Bellport, New York
Gateway’s Haunted Playhouse in Bellport approaches haunted attraction design like a theatrical production, and for good reason: the haunt is produced by The Gateway, Long Island’s longest-running professional theater. Professional designers, technicians, builders, and trained performers create an entirely new path, story, environments, and characters every season, so returning visitors aren’t simply walking through last year’s attraction again.
The 2026 production is Oracle’s Curse, centered on the descendants of fortune-teller Sullivan Augur and their increasingly desperate attempt to restore their family’s supernatural abilities. That story plays out through elaborate theatrical environments and actor-driven scenes, while the attraction’s professional theater background helps bring the characters and world to life!
Opening night: September 25th
Know Before You Go: Free parking, General Admission and Fast Pass available, nightmare carnival midway serves as the queue area, food and drinks available, Fear Garden serves beer and wine for guests 21+, merchandise, shooting gallery and coffin ride available, and the new Mr. Tickles 3-D Funhouse is a separate add-on attraction. Recommended for ages 13+. A family-friendly daytime experience is offered separately in October. Also have special events / themed nights.
Darkside Haunted House – Wading River, New York
Darkside Haunted House in Wading River has been frightening Long Island since 1998, combining elaborate indoor environments with outdoor sections and a style that leans into a broad collection of fears rather than following just one type of horror. Guests can expect detailed scenery, large props and animatronics, actors using hidden entrances and distractions, and scenes designed around everything from creatures and clowns to much darker nightmares.
The attraction continues to mix old-school haunt techniques with modern effects, making it especially appealing to guests who enjoy traditional actor scares alongside larger mechanical surprises!
Opening night: September 25th
Know Before You Go: Timed ticketing with a virtual queue system, free parking, indoor/outdoor attraction, food and concessions, Monster Midway, merchandise, and no-touch experience. Guests receive a text when it’s time to enter rather than spending the entire wait standing in a traditional line.
Darkness Rising Haunted Attraction – Copiague, New York
Darkness Rising Haunted Attraction in Copiague is a completely indoor Long Island haunt that essentially rebuilds itself around new nightmares each year. Since beginning in 2006, the family-owned attraction has become known for detailed handcrafted environments, live actors, high-energy scares, and a commitment to supporting local charities while continuing to reinvent what guests see inside.
For 2026, one ticket provides guests with continuous access to two new haunted experiences. Twisted Tales: The Nightmare Realm corrupts familiar fairy tales into a sinister storybook world, while Dead City drops guests into an urban environment overrun by the living dead. The dramatically different themes should offer visitors two distinct horror styles within the same walkthrough. We also highly recommend following them on social media, as they post a lot of entertaining content!

Demon Acres – Hannibal, New York
Demon Acres in Hannibal spreads its horror across 25 rural acres, combining the natural darkness of the countryside with large-scale sets and several very different haunted experiences. The Extreme Haunted Hayride takes guests into the Depths of the Dark Forest, where backwoods characters, large environments, and special effects surround the wagon before visitors tackle the property’s walk-through attractions.
Demon’s Den sends guests through 15 detailed rooms filled with spirits and creatures, while the Abandoned Jail adds a more interactive twist. Guests enter the jail, have their booking photo taken, and make their way through inmates and underground sewer tunnels while handcuffed. Together, the attractions turn Demon Acres into a full evening destination rather than a single quick walkthrough.
Opening night: October 2nd

Pure Terror Scream Park – Monroe, New York
Pure Terror Scream Park in Monroe is built for haunt fans who want a lot of horror in one continuous trip. The massive Hudson Valley attraction holds the Guinness World Record for the Longest Horror Attraction in the World and packs 10 haunted attractions into one property, sending guests from one nightmare into another through an extended indoor/outdoor journey.
For 2026, Pure Terror is once again offering 10 attractions and adding the all-new Gargoyle Den to the lineup. The experience combines live actors, enormous sets, special effects, dark passageways, tight spaces, outdoor terrain, and dramatically different themes, giving guests plenty to explore before finally reaching the Monster Midway.
Opening night: September 18th

Night Terrors Haunted Farm – Schoharie, New York
Night Terrors Haunted Farm in Schoharie uses its real farm setting to surround guests with darkness, cornfields, outdoor trails, and indoor nightmares just a short drive west of Albany. Rather than giving visitors a single haunted-house experience, the attraction moves them through several environments with distinct styles and varying levels of visibility.
Current offerings include Maize Mayhem, Bezerkus Circus, Pine Grave Sanitarium, and Close Encounters of the Redneck Kind. That variety means guests can go from navigating the dark farm to losing their bearings indoors, only to be thrown into another, completely different scenario.
Opening night: October 2nd
