This is not a ranking or a “10 best” list, and these certainly aren’t the only haunts in Texas worth visiting. Think of this as a starting point for building your haunt list. Plenty more attractions across Texas are waiting to be discovered! This list is in no particular order.
So, where will you scream first?
Dark Hour Haunted House – Plano, Texas
Dark Hour Haunted House in Plano is one of Texas’ most theatrical haunted attractions, using elaborate scenic design, original characters, professional lighting, massive effects, and an in-house production team to build a world that feels more like a dark fantasy production than a collection of scares.
For 2026, the Coven returns with more animatronics than ever before, along with the all-new Medusa’s Lair and Strega Chamber and an expanding goblin horde taking over the labyrinth. Dark Hour regularly changes major portions of its show and also opens for special events throughout the year, making it one of the easiest Texas haunts for repeat visitors to experience in completely different ways! Will you brave all of the witches?

Nightmare on 19th Street – Lubbock, Texas
Nightmare on 19th Street in Lubbock celebrates 20 years of fear in 2026 with four haunted houses spread across an enormous 1.25-mile journey. Guests will encounter the BloodMoon Manor, KarnEvil, Castle Dominus, and Roger Ratty’s Pizza/Playhouse.
This year’s “Year of the Creeps” brings changes throughout the property, including the arrival of Big Betty in the midway and new characters such as Mr. Skinner, Dr. Mortis, and Lockjaw. The attraction has built its reputation by continually expanding rather than relying on one static haunted house.
Opening night: September 26th
Know Before You Go: General Admission and Fast Pass options are available, food and vendors are located around the midway, and the full experience stretches roughly 1.25 miles! Wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time for the night.
Terror Isle – Texas City, Texas
Terror Isle in Texas City is a heavily story-driven haunted attraction that drops guests into a dark pirate world instead of sending them through a disconnected series of scenes. Guests receive a mission from the Pirate King, encounter the witch Orla Darkthorne, and descend into tunnels, mines, wreckage, and other environments while trying to recover stolen treasure. Survive and find the gold!
For 2026, the story is called From Below, where something has tunneled beneath the island and stolen the King’s gold. Giant worms, zombie pirates, miners, enormous creatures, and Noctyr himself now occupy the underground world. Terror Isle emphasizes live actors and full-scale scenic environments, making the story itself a major part of the experience.
Opening night: October 3rd
Know Before You Go: Free parking, ADA accessible, all guests need to sign a liability waiver to enter, advance tickets recommended. Three ticket options: General Admission, Skip The Line, and VIP.
Purgatory Scream Park – Kingwood, Texas
Purgatory Scream Park in Kingwood delivers a massive experience filled with elaborate scenes, live actors, moving effects, tight spaces, and more! The attraction has traditionally divided its nightmare into four major sections with a ton of actors!
Opening night: September 25th
Know Before You Go: Free parking, average walkthrough is roughly 30-45 minutes, concessions and food trucks, VIP and Elite upgrades available. You may be touched.
Cutting Edge Haunted House – Fort Worth, Texas
Cutting Edge Haunted House in Fort Worth operates inside a century-old former meat-packing plant, and the industrial building itself remains one of the biggest reasons this attraction feels so different from a traditional warehouse haunt. Multi-story environments, old machinery, dark corridors, elaborate monsters, special effects, and the building’s unsettling history create an experience that feels appropriately massive and grimy.
Cutting Edge also became famous for its enormous scale, previously earning multiple Guinness World Records connected to the length of its walkthrough. Guests move through an extended series of industrial and horror environments rather than a short collection of rooms, making this one of the Texas attractions where the building becomes as memorable as the monsters inside! During our last visit for their blackout weekend over the summer, we were inside for an hour, not including any standing in lines.

Know Before You Go: Timed tickets are used, parking is $20 CASH ONLY, there is no ATM on the property, no bags or purses allowed, children must be 42″ tall to enter.
Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Texas – Arlington, Texas
Fright Fest at Six Flags Over Texas transforms the Arlington theme park after dark with haunted mazes, scare zones, monsters roaming the park, Halloween shows, themed food, and major rides operating alongside the nighttime horror. This is one of the most varied experiences on the list because guests can jump between traditional haunted attractions, outdoor scare zones, live entertainment, and roller coasters throughout the same visit! This park is the original, historic first park in the Six Flags chain, opening back in 1961!
The 2026 maze lineup includes The Strangers: No Escape, SAW: Legacy of Terror, The Conjuring Universe, Eversmile Industries presented by M&Ms, and Terror at the Polynesian Palm presented by Skittles. Scare zones include the new Doc Varnum’s Hybrid Hell Pit, along with Plague and The Last Harvest presented by SNICKERS.
Opening night: September 11th
Know Before You Go: Live shows, exclusive food and beverage lineups, bags, backpacks, and personal items subject to screening to enter, Express ticket upgrades available.
13th Floor Haunted House – Houston, Texas
13th Floor Haunted House Houston brings three major 2026 nightmares together in one high-production attraction, combining cinematic scenery, large effects, highly themed environments, and live actors with several optional activities around the main haunt.
The headline addition is the officially licensed Jason Universe: Survive the Night, where Jason Voorhees stalks guests through a full walkthrough experience. Other 2026 themes include Containment Sector 9, where an escaped alien pathogen has transformed a secret experimental facility, and Cannibals Crossing, a decaying woodland estate overtaken by cannibals and ancient rituals. Guests can also add mini escape games, Zombie Apocalypse Live, a secret bar, and the limited Jason Universe Director’s Cut VIP experience.
Opening night: September 12th
Know Before You Go: Tickets are sold online only. Free parking is available in the attraction’s lot and on surrounding streets. Secret bar and mini escape games are available as additional experiences, and a Respawn Pass allows guests to go through the main attraction a second time. They also offer axe throwing and a partial indoor waiting line.
Creepy Hollow Haunted House – Rosharon, Texas
Creepy Hollow Haunted House in Rosharon is built as an entire night of horror rather than a single walkthrough. Three haunted attractions are surrounded by live shows, food, games, shops, characters, and other entertainment, making it easy for guests to spend the whole night here! For 2026, the haunt lineup includes 288 Scare Factory, Dark Woods Swamp, and Pitch Black!
Creepy Hollow is also a full-contact attraction by default, adding another layer of intensity for visitors who want the monsters to get especially close. Guests who would rather keep their experience hands-off can purchase a No Touch Pass instead. The property is celebrating 15 years of fear in 2026.

Know Before You Go: One $40 admission includes all three haunted attractions, Speed Pass is an additional $20, No Touch Pass is an additional $10, full-contact scares are the default experience, box-office purchases are CASH ONLY, and the attraction is not wheelchair accessible.
House of Torment – Austin, Texas
House of Torment in Austin is another large-scale cinematic haunt where guests move through several dramatically different worlds during one visit. Detailed sets, professional lighting and sound, large monsters, original environments, and high-energy actors have made it one of the most recognizable Halloween attractions in Texas.
For 2026, Jason Universe: Survive the Night brings Jason Voorhees to Austin; Return of the Abominations attraction sends guests into the ruins of Site 505, where mutated survivors and biomechanical horrors battle through a poisoned wasteland. A third storyline, Beyond the Veil, centers on an abandoned manor, an ancient cult, and a mysterious book that appears to record the people who open it. Additional experiences include mini escape games, Hades Zombie Simulation, Phobia: Sensory Overload, and secret-bar experiences.
Opening night: September 12th
Know Before You Go: Three primary haunted houses, tickets must be purchased online, the haunt is accessible and offers bypasses, and guests aged 12+ recommended.
Moxley Manor Haunted House – Bedford, Texas
Moxley Manor Haunted House in Bedford packs three separate attractions at one location, giving guests several different styles of horror without having to travel to another property. The current lineup includes the original Moxley Manor, Regan’s Revenge, and the fluorescent nightmare of Big Top Terror.
Moxley Manor also operates several off-season events, making it one of the DFW haunts that regularly changes its show outside the traditional Halloween season.
