Cast Review:
301 Devil’s Playground exceeded our expectations when their cast brought the attractions to life in ways we hadn’t anticipated. From the moment we stepped foot inside, it was clear we were in for a fully immersive experience, as the number of actors ensured there was never a quiet or uneventful moment. Even in the few areas with fewer actors, the suspense was masterfully built, giving us a false sense of security before the next big scare landed.
For someone like Dan, a seasoned haunt-goer known for spotting actors disguised as props, it was a true surprise to see him jump so often. The cast excelled at blending in with their surroundings, catching even the most vigilant among us off guard. The dedication of the actors was immediately evident. They threw themselves into their roles with enthusiasm and conviction, making it impossible not to believe we were surrounded by real demons, killers, and twisted clowns.
Each interaction felt deliberate and intense, like the hauntingly perfect laugh from a clown in 3-D Phobia that left us with goosebumps. Moments like walking through the eerie schoolhouse, where a ghostly figure emerged with impeccable timing, caught us completely by surprise. The chilling realization that we weren’t alone while walking through the towering crosses. We were constantly left on edge.
Staying in character was no issue for this crew. It wasn’t just about scaring us. It was about building a world where every interaction felt like an extension of the nightmarish reality they had crafted. Actors seemingly improvised conversations based on our reactions, which heightened the immersive experience. The interactions were dynamic and tailored to our group, nothing felt generic. The physical engagement was on another level, with the actors expertly utilizing their surroundings to enhance their scares.
Creepy touches on our shoulders, grabs at our ankles, and fingers brushing through our hair kept us on edge, causing us to constantly look over our shoulders. Props and set pieces were used innovatively, adding to the intensity. A particularly memorable moment was when an actor wielded a power saw, a tool we hadn’t seen used in haunts before, adding a surprising and unique twist that made the scare all the more effective.
One highlight of our night came during The Harvest, where the chainsaw-wielding actors put on an unforgettable performance. Unlike typical encounters where once a chainsaw starts revving, people take off running and the actors gets to chase you… this team took it to another level. Even though we didn’t run like most groups might, that didn’t deter them in the slightest. Instead of chasing us down the path, they surrounded us, expertly coordinating their movements to trap us in the middle of their chaos. Despite our attempts to remain unfazed, the relentless revving and sheer number of chainsaws coming at us from all sides, made for an intense experience. It was a masterful display of persistence and showmanship, proving that they could still create a high level of tension and keep us on edge, even without the typical reaction of people bolting to get away.
Their commitment to the scare, despite our reluctance to run, highlighted just how dedicated this cast was to ensuring every visitor left with their heart racing. The variety of characters was outstanding, with each actor bringing something unique to the table. Even in a themed area like 3-D Phobia, where all the clowns could easily blend together, each one had a distinct personality, from a sinister stare to a manic laugh, that sent shivers down our spines. It was clear that the actors had put significant thought into developing their roles, giving each character a purpose. They interacted, performed, and fully immersed us in the experience, making 301 Devil’s Playground a standout haunt with a passionate and talented cast that made our visit unforgettable.

Costuming Review:
301 Devils Playground delivered some of the most exceptional and creative costumes we’ve encountered. Each outfit was impressively unique and meticulously detailed, leaving us frequently questioning whether we were looking at an actor or a prop. The attention to detail was impeccable, showcasing a commitment to making every costume complete and lifelike.
This high level of craftsmanship was evident from the very start, even in the queue area, where classic characters were given innovative twists. One standout example was their take on Michael Myers. Typically recognized for his iconic blank expression hidden behind a stark white mask, this rendition allowed for a surprising twist—Michael removed his mask, revealing a terrifying visage underneath. It was an unexpected moment that paid off brilliantly, adding an extra layer of fright to an already chilling character.
Similarly, their portrayal of the Devil went beyond the standard red-horned costume. The character’s scales were so intricately designed that they appeared almost real, a testament to the skillful makeup and costume work this crew utilizes.
Masks and makeup were outstanding, offering creative and intricate looks. The makeup was applied with precision, making each character’s appearance purposeful and transforming the actors into truly grotesque and haunting figures. The queue actors set the tone for what was to come, with Michael Myers and the Devil exemplifying the level of detail we would see throughout the haunt. These characters were instantly recognizable but brought to life with a unique twist that made their presence even more memorable.
The costuming at 301 Devils Playground not only impressed us with its creativity and detail but also helped to breathe life into the scenes and characters, making the entire experience both believable and immersive.

Customer Service Review:
The attraction was easy to locate, with well-placed signs guiding us right to the parking area. The parking lot itself was well-organized, staffed with flaggers who efficiently directed cars to open spots, minimizing any confusion. The lot was well-lit, ensuring we could safely make our way to the entrance even in the dark.
As for safety concerns like potential muddy spots, while the parking area is grass and could get tricky during wet weather, on the night of our visit, everything was in good condition.
Navigating through the attractions was equally straightforward. Upon passing through a security checkpoint, guests are directed to the ticket booth. The booth is conveniently located right at the entrance. From the ticket area, guests are guided seamlessly from one attraction to the next. This layout prevents any confusion about where to go next, and keeps the flow of the crowd moving efficiently.
The staff’s professionalism and friendliness stood out through our visit. Every team member we interacted with was not only knowledgeable and helpful, but also genuinely enthusiastic. Whether it was the ticket takers, security personnel, or merchandise booth workers, everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a great experience. Even when we stopped to inquire about speaking with our original contact at the security booth, the officer, who wasn’t directly employed by the attraction, went above and beyond to help us locate someone who could assist. The woman at the merchandise booth was equally helpful and friendly, exemplifying the welcoming atmosphere that the staff strives to create.
301 Devils Playground requested a surprise review (meaning they didn’t want to know what night or time we were coming). During our visit, all staff was extremely energetic and friendly. We didn’t find one person who seemed like they didn’t want to be there. This genuine excitement and engagement from the team added to the overall positive experience.
The security team, in particular, was easy to identify, dressed in clearly marked uniforms, and stationed at key points throughout the grounds to maintain safety and order.
Access to information about the attraction online was straightforward as well. The 301 Devils Playground website is well-designed, offering all the essential details visitors might need, such as the address, parking information, ticket prices, dates, hours, and a clear breakdown of the attractions available. They also include storyline previews for each haunt, enhancing the anticipation before entering. The website’s user-friendly layout made it easy to find everything we needed in just a few clicks, which is a huge plus.

Immersion Review:
The pre-haunt atmosphere at 301 Devil’s Playground immediately set the tone for what we were about to experience inside. Queue actors roamed the lines, offering glimpses into the madness ahead. One memorable interaction was positioned right at the entrance of the first queue, and got our excitement and anticipation heightened for what was to come.
Inside, the immersive experience was driven by a well-developed and unique storyline. The narrative elements posted near the attraction entrances provided a quick, but effective introduction that enriched our journey through each space. The overarching story, centered around a judge who moved to a farm in Galena, where heinous crimes were committed, felt not only creative, but also well-suited to the rural setting.
As we made our way through the attractions, we were consistently immersed in the environment. The team at 301 Devil’s Playground excelled at managing line flow, ensuring we rarely encountered other groups, which helped maintain the feeling of being the center of the action. This was particularly effective in the first two attractions and the final one, where we never ran into another group, allowing the actors to focus their scares on us directly. While we did encounter some overlap with other groups in the Barnyard and Barn of Torture, it didn’t detract from the experience; the actors still delivered scares effectively, keeping us engaged. Transitional areas, such as navigating through hanging sheets, contributed to the overall atmosphere, keeping the immersion intact.
Upon exiting each attraction, we were smoothly guided into the next queue line, making it easy to navigate the property. One standout moment was the bus scene that led into the second attraction, which was a clever and immersive way to transition us between areas. After the last attraction, we exited into their midway area. This area was filled with detailed photo opportunities, food vendors, a live coffin experience, and a merchandise booth, creating a fun atmosphere to end your night after all the frights.

Special FX Review:
The special effects at this haunt were outstanding, truly elevating the experience and creating an immersive atmosphere from start to finish. One of the most effective elements was the use of sound. The sound effects were meticulously chosen and placed to enhance each scene’s atmosphere.
A standout moment was the chaotic coop scene, where the sound design added an intense layer of panic and confusion. It was so well-executed that it left a lasting impression. Additionally, a blackout scene utilized a single repetitive sound that heightened the tension, turning a seemingly simple setup into one of the most nerve-wracking parts of the attraction.
The scene designs were masterfully crafted, showcasing a high level of attention to detail. It was clear that the creators put significant effort into making each area realistic and unique. For instance, the coop scene was not only original but intricately detailed, making it a memorable part of the haunt. The incorporation of farm elements, like silos and various flooring textures, added authenticity and depth to the experience.
There were no generic, half assembled rooms. Their creativity extended into features we hadn’t seen before, such as a wall painting in the 3-D phobia section where the eyes appeared to follow you across the room; a subtle, but effective scare tactic. The inclusion of effects, like simulated gunfire, was the perfect cherry on top, making this haunt a must-see for fans of innovative design.
The props and animatronics added an extra layer of realism, blending seamlessly into the scenes. Each prop was thoughtfully placed, often strategically positioned to provide cover for actors or to catch us off-guard. We noticed a few motion sensors during the outdoor section of the third attraction, but these were cleverly hidden among the detailed scenes, so they didn’t detract from the overall experience.
Overall, the use of special effects was top tier. From creative lighting, and sound to expertly crafted illusions, like vortex tunnels and never-ending pits, the sensory elements were designed to disorient and engage guests fully. The lighting helped build suspense. Every detail, from the colors of the lights to the placement of the props, was strategically planned. This haunt did not lack on special effects. They thought of everything to add an extra element that would take the scene over the top.

Scare Factor Review:
The scare factor at this haunt was intense, delivering consistent frights. Even Dan, who rarely gets startled, found himself jumping multiple times! A testament to the quality and effectiveness of the scares.
As for Sam, it felt like she was reliving her first haunted attraction experience, with surprises at every turn that had her jumping in every scene. The haunts managed to keep everyone in our group on their toes, consistently delivering genuine scares that were far from just simple startles.
The actors ensured that no one was left out, and demonstrated an impressive ability to read the crowd and adjust their timing to maximize the fear factor. We cannot recall any moments where the experience felt predictable, and the timing of scares was nothing short of masterful.
Whether at the front, middle, or back of the group, we could never quite tell when a scare was coming, adding to the overall feeling of unease. The variety and creativity of the scares were noteworthy. The actors utilized a range of tactics, from intense jump scares to more subtle, psychological frights that made our skin crawl.
Props and animatronics played a significant role in creating distractions, diverting our attention just long enough for an actor to make their move. This was particularly evident in the 3-D phobia section, where one actor used a loud noise to draw our gaze, while another slipped into position for the main scare, a highly effective tactic that was repeated throughout the various attractions.
Frights came at us from all directions: front, sides, back, and even from above, keeping us constantly on guard. It was impossible to know where the next scare was going to be.

E&V Review:
301 Devils Playground delivered a fantastic experience that was well worth the $45 ticket price. With five attractions included, visitors are treated to about an hour of scares, resulting in a solid 1.33 minutes of entertainment per dollar spent.
The length of each attraction felt just right, providing enough time to get fully immersed in each setting, without feeling rushed or dragged out. With a variety of themes across the different haunts, it kept our interest piqued.
Additionally, there were queue actors who did a great job of interacting with the crowd, adding an extra layer of entertainment while we waited. Their presence kept the energy high, and maintained the atmosphere of suspense and excitement even before we stepped inside the attractions. This added touch helped enhance the overall experience, making the waiting time feel less tedious, and more like a part of the show.
Overall, this haunt’s combination of well-designed attractions, ample scare time, and engaging queue entertainment, made it a great bang for our buck. The experience exceeded expectations, and we left feeling like the ticket price was more than justified by the quality and quantity of entertainment provided.
