Summary

Blood Crest Manor is a house built in 1865, and the original homeowners came from Germany. The current owner, Nick, now has roughly 20 glorious acres that he’s kept expanding over the past 3 years. One of the fascinating parts about coming to Blood Crest Manor is that the house is believed to be truly haunted!

For paranormal lovers and haunt seekers, this is a must-see. This haunt is in Simpson, Illinois, a village in Johnson County; a small town with a great gem lurking in the shadows.

Guest Experience9.53

This haunt was not hard to locate; big lights revealing a giant skeleton with the sign were not hard to miss! When it came to parking, we got a little confused and almost pulled into the wrong part, but the staff was quick on their feet to help direct us to the correct section. We had missed the parking sign- oops! The staff were full of glee and pleasant to talk with. They were so kind to everyone there- they would even soothe young kids who were debating on backing out. While we were there, a mother and her young… Read More…

Walking up, you are met with the excitement of time-honored horror movies and the warmth of a large bonfire. Nearby is an outhouse-shaped building, the escape room, with a sign that reads “The Out House Escape Room”; the ‘out’ is marked out with red, blood-dripping letters that spell out ‘Shout’. There’s a clown stalking in the distance, lifeless and silent. You wouldn’t know he’s a real person until his head turns as you pass him. You give your ticket to Mr. Dread, who then walks you across the street to the haunted manor. Iron fences and a cobblestone path led… Read More…

Special Effects7.36

The overstimulating scene was by far the best. The sharp banging sounds and taunts contrasted the absence of ambient noise, fog, strobing light, and the labyrinth we had to make our way out of. There was a particular room where I can’t recall music, but the silence didn’t last long. Pots were being slammed onto a stovetop, the sound of grunts and yelling, and chainsaws in the distance, making the sound effect daunting as we attempted to escape the kitchen. The indoor scenes’ details were fitting, being that we were in an actual house for most of the attractions. There… Read More…

There were true creations of something old and forgotten brewing in that house that the scare actors dug into very well! The lady of the house’s ghostly appearance was so convincingly executed that I honestly couldn’t tell whether I was looking at incredible makeup or an incredibly realistic mask. Either way, the effect was hauntingly good! We also met Eisenhower, whose costume was the most intriguing and unique so far. This mask was an absolute standout! An unsettling sea of eyes covered the entire mask, glowing under the blacklight and creating a truly unnerving visual. The effect was bizarre, mesmerizing,… Read More…

This haunt created a sense of foreboding, a feeling that something frightening is about to happen. They provided a nice variety of scares: Sensory overload, trap doors, jump scares, stalking, and disorienting the group’s order. For those who would talk, they had good dialogue that was appropriate to their scene. The kid who was with us even had his share of banter with them. I’ll give them this- my first scare of the season. Eisenhower really timed that well. The timing for the scares was done well, especially the lady of the house. I walked by her, staring at her,… Read More…

Value6.76

This haunt was truly a hidden gem! The experience offered more than just the haunt itself, which is refreshing. While waiting, guests could enjoy a movie and gather around a bonfire, making the wait feel like part of the evening rather than simply standing in line. You were given a butcher ticket, and they would call your group number out. Those extra touches added to the atmosphere and made the overall experience feel even more worthwhile, meaning the wait became part of the experience rather than a drawback. This haunt has been operating for 3 years now, and I can… Read More…
