Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

The end of civilization began inside the Ohio State Reformatory in 2026 as Blood Prison unleashed its all-new APOCALYPSE theme! Bigger, darker, and more extreme than ever, the introductory video warned us, “The fate of humanity begins and ends with us.” The apocalypse was only the beginning of our sentence. Blood Prison filled the Reformatory’s real stone corridors and towering steel cell blocks with furious inmates, malformed guards, vehicles, a tank, and other apocalyptic features! We also encountered a holographic doctor brought to life through some of the finest projection mapping we’ve seen, further pulling us into the unfolding collapse… Read More…

Guest Experience8.91

Finding information about Blood Prison was seamless. The attraction’s website provided accurate, easy-to-find information on operating dates, hours, storyline, and parking. Tickets were available for specific time slots, and directions to the haunt were clear and easy to follow. Upon arrival, we found several designated lanes for different time slots, all organized and well maintained. Fast Pass and Front-of-the-Line guests will find signs directing them to their designated entrances once they reach the prison building. Additional signage leading from the main arrival area toward the building could make these separate entry points easier to locate, as they were harder to… Read More…

Immersion9.25

Constructed between 1886 and 1910, the Ohio State Reformatory eventually housed some of the nation’s most violent and dangerous criminals. Its towering 25-foot stone walls contain six stories of cells, with 100 on each block. This behemoth of a correctional facility is intimidating and menacing even by today’s standards. Plunge it into darkness and let dozens upon dozens of savage inmates run loose, and you can imagine how intense of a setting it becomes! Loud Nu-Metal and hard rock blared through massive speakers, making the air feel electric. The facade of the prison is illuminated in just the right way… Read More…

Special Effects9.32

If The Walking Dead, The Shawshank Redemption, and Resident Evil somehow made one seriously disturbed baby, you’d have a pretty good idea of what to expect from Blood Prison’s special effects! It was absolute madness inside this prison! The haunt wound through the real Ohio State Reformatory, including its cell blocks and solitary confinement. With the touch pass, there was also a good chance that at least one member would get a close look inside a real cell! That type of atmosphere simply can’t be duplicated. However, the team behind Blood Prison didn’t rely on the building alone. They filled… Read More…

Characters9.37

When it comes to the cast at Blood Prison, there’s no shortage of unique looks and terrifying characters. Every inmate and other prison staff, so to speak, wore elaborate makeup and detailed costumes that added an extra layer of authenticity and horror to their performances. Some characters take their appearances to the extreme, perfectly embodying the chaos of deranged inmates who have broken free and sparked a full-blown prison riot. The cast was relentless, delivering some of the most aggressive and physical encounters we have experienced this season. At one point, I even stopped to ask, “Hey, quick question… what… Read More…

Scare Factor9.23

For a place that was literally designed and built with the purpose of striking fear into the hearts of hardened criminals, Blood Prison really doesn’t need to do much to be scary. Its initial purpose was to send a clear message: “There is no escape, submit and be reformed.” Blood Prison recreates as much terror and torture that occurred behind its stone walls for almost 100 years, and puts it all into a nearly 40-minute walkthrough of Hell itself. It packs an impossible amount of suffering into an adrenaline-fueled frenzy. The actors were EXTREMELY thorough and gave everyone in our… Read More…

Value8.31

Blood Prison offers General Admission, Ultra Lightning, and Instant Access tickets, with the latter two including entry to the Shanks & Spirits VIP Lounge. Guests ages 18 and older can add a Touch Pass for $7. Best of all, every admission also includes a daytime tour ticket to the Ohio State Reformatory, which adds tremendous value to the overall package! With fees and our Touch Pass included, General Admission cost us $53.90 online. We spent about 37 minutes inside the haunt, not counting time spent in re-queues, for 0.69 minutes of inside-haunt entertainment per dollar. While this falls below the… Read More…

Allocate less tickets. I get they need to make money but despite how big this place is there’s just way too many people.
