Final Score: 9.01

Conjure Haunted Attraction is back with its second year of frights and fun in Birmingham, Alabama. Housed in a sprawling industrial building, the haunt delivers thirty-seven rooms of densely detailed scenes and scares, as well as a huge gift shop with a huge selection of costumes and Halloween decor. The indoor queue area is the coolest room a skeleton fan could wish for, as you are surrounded by hundreds of skeletons from life-size to twelve feet tall, all lit with moving lights! It is a disco for the dead and really sets the mood for what is to come inside the haunt!

Conjure has plans to expand, adding haunt-themed putt-putt golf, escape rooms, and a mystery theater to its offerings, making the venue a year-round haunt-themed entertainment destination.

Conjure delivers awesome frights and also gives back to the community. The owner has a passion for helping survivors of domestic violence and gives a portion of the haunt’s proceeds to Andrew’s Place, a Birmingham charity with a special focus on helping LGBTQIA+ families.

The cast of Conjure Haunted Attraction is one of its strongest assets, bringing the haunt to life with nonstop energy and creativity. Beyond delivering traditional scares, the actors are highly interactive—quick to engage in dialogue, never breaking character, and always ready with a clever quip or chilling retort. No matter what we threw their way, they remained sharp and unfazed, which made every encounter feel unique and unpredictable.

Characters haunted us from the shadows, silently stalking from room to room, Papa Conjure (as seen in the haunted attraction logo) managed to silently show up 5 or 6 times during our walkthrough. We started to wonder if there were 2 actors dressed alike! Meanwhile, other actors exploded with chaotic, in-your-face energy. At one point, we even had to win a round of rock, paper, scissors to be allowed to pass through—or risk staying behind to “play forever” with the creepy characters.

The actors managed to engage each member of our group during the walkthrough. Nobody was overlooked, and everyone had their own moment with a character. The attention to interaction made our experience feel as though we had stepped into an eerie world full of characters who were just as interested in us as we were in them.

Costuming: 9.15

7. How appropriate were the costumes for the respective scenes, themes? (20% of score): 9.35

8. How believable-, detailed-looking were the queue actors? (See Note if N/A) (15% of score): 9.15

Conjure has an impressive level of detail that ties very well into each theme and setting. Characters looked like they truly belonged in their environments, whether they were frantic victims trying to escape or monstrous beings hunting us down. Outfits convincing- weathered, torn, and bloodstained where appropriate, giving them an authentic, distressed look – like they had been lived… or died in. This attention to detail made scenes feel more believable and engaging.

Conjure’s makeup work was equally striking. Several clowns had elaborately painted, maniacal faces that perfectly captured their chaotic, unsettling energy. Other characters transformed with layers of gore, grime, or eerie supernatural effects that made them glow with an otherworldly presence. Together, the costuming and makeup elevated the performances, adding depth and realism that strengthened the haunt’s overall atmosphere and immersion.

From the moment you enter the queue line, surrounded by skeletons, and approach the glowing red façade of the haunt’s entrance, the tone is set for what is to come. Guests step through the front door of a weathered, dilapidated house and immediately find themselves in a massive, two-level study. Lined with shelves of books and filled with art, curios, and eerie details, it serves as an immersive introduction to the attraction. A quirky resident delivers a brief reminder of the rules before ushering visitors into a dark hallway – where the frights truly begin.

As you make your way through Conjure, you notice a curated attention to detail. Clever lighting enhances the eerie mood in every scene, while varied wall and floor textures add depth and realism. Each room is decorated and filled with props and furniture tailored to its theme, creating a cohesive environment that feels like an actual haunted house. Conjure makes excellent use of special effects to deepen immersion and deliver surprise after surprise. One of the most impressive is the laser swamp, enhanced with real trees and hanging branches that make the scene feel uncannily authentic as you wade through the glowing haze. The lighting design throughout the haunt is equally deliberate, shifting from eerie shadows that conceal lurking figures to carefully placed highlights that draw attention to key scares.

Flooring tricks are used with great effect as well. Several rooms feature unexpected changes underfoot, from soft, squishy surfaces to uneven textures that helped mimic the change in settings.

The graveyard sequence is a standout moment. Guests approach wrought-iron gates that creak open on their own, leading to a chilling passage across an ankle-high blue laser combined with fog, perfectly creating the illusion of walking through a glowing, otherworldly mist. Crumbling tombstones, moss-covered greenery, and the pale glow of a looming moon overhead complete the scene, making it feel like a genuine midnight stroll through haunted burial grounds.

Conjure Haunted Attraction has well-timed jump scares that are quite unexpected. Characters spring from dark areas of the rooms or suddenly appear from hiding spots to catch even the most attentive guests unaware. In certain rooms, the actors did not need to hide. The way they stared or circled around the group was unnerving enough to make you uneasy.

In addition to traditional jump scares, Conjure targets phobias to unsettle its visitors. For those with arachnophobia, there is a spider area that will make you want to just close your eyes and run, but with all of the twists and turns you’ll have to face your fear in order to navigate this tight web covered pathway, and you will get a close encounter with one of the many oversized eight legged creatures and be tangled in their dangling webs.

There is also a very interactive area that gives those with coulrophobia the terrifying opportunity to be surrounded by bizarre and chaotic clowns. The clowns exude manic energy that is passed on to guests as the clowns try to engage them in games and song.

Intimidation scares also play a major role throughout the attraction. Characters often shouted that they wanted us to “stay and play forever,” or trailed us as we moved from room to room. There was often the feeling of being watched and followed. Papa Conjure, again, was a great example; his silent gaze was pervasive throughout the haunt as we encountered him again and again.

General admission to Conjure is $25, and our walkthrough clocked in at 17.5 minutes. That works out to a value of 0.78 minutes per dollar (MPD) – right in line with many other haunts we have experienced. For the price, Conjure delivers a solid length paired with high-quality sets, actors, and effects.

The experience does not end with the walkthrough, either. The queue actors keep guests entertained before entering the haunt and are always eager to pose for photos. The large indoor queue room itself is a treat, featuring great lighting and atmospheric backdrops perfect for selfies or group shots.

Afterward, guests can stop by the merchandise shop area, which offers an impressive selection of items along with complimentary popcorn. Additional snacks and drinks are available for purchase, making it a welcoming space to relax, browse, and chat about your favorite scares.

In addition to the haunt, you can enjoy entertainment by the queue actors who will be happy to join you for a photo, and the large queue room offers great lighting and backgrounds for selfies and group photos. The merch shop area offers free popcorn and has additional snacks and drinks for sale.
