Summary

On the outskirts of the Dallas suburbs lies the kind of derelict manor that other kids would dare you to ring the doorbell of. There’s something very different about this one though – this one has a pirate ship in its front yard. Creekside manor is a locally owned and run haunt that’s community-first in so many ways. From the talent they employ, to the charities that they donate proceeds to, this is a haunt with a heart of gold. Of course, it’s also got a heart of darkness beating within thanks to chilling scares and thoughtful use of special… Read More…

This haunt is relatively simple to navigate to, but you do need to pay attention as you approach. The parking lots directly adjacent to the haunt entrance are intended for handicapped folks. Otherwise, you’ll be parking at the nearby feed store. There are folks directing you to the proper parking lot, and I appreciated the skeleton with the neon sign pointing guests towards the feed store parking lot but wished parking instructions were on their site so I could have navigated directly to the proper parking lot. A nice treat is their shuttle service, which transports guests to the haunt… Read More…

I wasn’t kidding when I described this place as the rundown manor that may have haunted your hometown and your childhood nightmares. This is so obviously a haunt! Of course, it’s a bit tucked away – when I entered, I was first struck by their giant pirate ship, which you can see from a distance as you walk in. You must walk through the Leviathan to get to the Manor, and the facades really give you a sense that you’re moving in and out of specific spaces. Bonus points for having an outdoor section separating the manor and the asylum!… Read More…

Special Effects8.6

Creekside Manor proves that sometimes less is more with animatronics. This haunt spaced out their animatronics well and it’s clear they’ve invested in a few key, high-quality pieces. It felt like the animatronics were there to support the actors, and they were timed to perfection! They were very distracting in all the right ways. Sound effects and soundscapes were thoughtful, though occasionally I did get some sound bleed from the common area in outdoor portions. I loved the way their organ built up and supported a scare with musical scales! Lighting was also great, with good variation depending on what… Read More…

Costumes were overall high quality. Some were simpler than others, but everyone was unique, even in the insane asylum where patient and doctor outfits usually all blur together. Their sea witch and greeter pirate were a great example of this. The witch was fully decked out in seashells, barnacles, and spooky contacts and makeup that made her feel like a sea monster. Her pirate companion was well dressed as a pirate but left me longing for more details that would tell me who he is and why he’s on the crew of the Leviathan. The characters here are highly interactive,… Read More…

I have great respect for a haunt that keeps up the intensity from start to finish, and Creekside Manor delivered! Their timing was also top notch – they came for me from almost every angle. One actor was even perched on a tree in the area just before the chainsaw chase! There’s also a standout scare with a clothing rack that played out very differently than I was expecting, and I loved it. While this was a very intense experience, I did find that there was a good rhythm of tension building and the actual scares. The actors also worked… Read More…

Value7.49

Creekside Manor delivers with a solid experience length (0.6 MPD), for the $30 ticket price, especially compared to some of the other haunts in the DFW area. I also felt like the quality matched the value of the tickets. Knowing that proceeds are donated to local charities was the cherry on top in cementing the overall value of the haunt. The other very nice thing is that that’s the price for the whole season, not just early on. Do I wish there was a bit more on-site entertainment to keep me there the whole night? Sure, but I still felt… Read More…
