Cast Review:

When we went through the Bludgeon House, we encountered many different creatures and deranged “family” members. Overall, they kept the scares flowing, with just a few areas that relied on animatronics or pros to keep up with the frights. Each actor did a great job staying in character, even when we became a conga line within the haunt.

The Bludgeon home has several interactive characters within the haunt. We encountered those who would use creative dialogue and improvised based on what we said, and others who would stand in our way so we would have to go around them. They all did very well!

When going through the Lost Souls Haunted Trail, many actors filled the space! We only encountered a few brief transition zones where it would get quiet. These areas helped to amplify the scares because we never saw them coming! The actors were so creative with their acts, we especially loved “Pinhead”, the birthday girl. She even made us sing “Happy Birthday” to her and her very bony son, “Velcro”.

They were all interactive with us on the Lost Souls Trail! Many of them would start a conversation with us, and with our responses, would improvise the next lines of dialogue. We loved every minute of it!

Costuming Review:

The costumes in the Bludgeon House were very detailed. We encountered many different characters, such as Grandpa Bludgeon, many hillbilly inbreds, a pigman, a mental patient, and others. A lot of the makeup and masks worn by these characters were realistic. They all looked like they were supposed to be there. We really enjoyed the person in the kitchen. She showed us her nasty teeth that looked so real, it was disgusting!

The characters inside the Bludgeon House had cool scenes. We encountered many inbred hillbillies inside a rundown haunted home. There were a few actors that were there for the quick jump scare, so they may have only had on a creepy mask or makeup, but it worked well!

Each costume in the Lost Souls Trail was different from the next. We really enjoyed the variety of characters. There was the demon pumpkin, the zombie person, the doctor’s patients, scarecrows, clowns, and many others. The masks and makeup fit each actor well. Some of the best makeup was in the torture room. The actors pulled out their shotguns, ready to blast our heads off.

Inside the Lost Souls Trail, each of the characters had a unique scene assigned to them specifically. The demon pumpkin was in a pumpkin patch, the dead zombie was in a cemetery, “Pinhead” the clown was in a birthday party scene, and there was another clown in a dance party scene.

The queue actors at Dead Man’s Farm were some of the best we have seen! They were very interactive and willing to take photos with anyone. Their makeup or masks were realistic and creepy. We enjoyed interacting with them and watching them interact with other guests.

Customer Service Review:

This attraction is very easy to locate using GPS, and watching for the large signs and lights at the entrance. They have parking flaggers and charge $5.00, cash only, to park. The parking lot is all gravel and extremely well-lit. They have the fire and police departments on site each night, as well as their own security officers. There is adequate lighting throughout each haunted attraction in areas that need it the most.

Every employee we spoke to was extremely professional and friendly. This includes the parking lot attendants, the ticket booth, gift shop employees, and the vendor we purchased food from.

Dead Man’s Farm has an awesome website with a ton of important information! You may purchase your tickets in advance (we recommend this because every time we go, the line is packed). There is a place to read up on the attractions available: Lost Souls Haunted Trail and the Bludgeon Haunted House. We recommend doing both, because two is always better than one!

The website also has basic information such as dates & hours, ticket prices, location, parking information, touching policies, etc.

Check it out for yourself!

Immersion Review:

The pre-haunt atmosphere was amazing! As always, we have such a fun time being here with all the spooky decorations, activities, and queue actors. They have a huge Midway area including fire performers, bonfires, food trucks, mini escape rooms, photo ops, smoke bubbles, and multiple queue actors. You could easily spend hours there, aside from going through the haunt itself.

The storyline in the Bludgeon House was very creepy. When we first entered, we were in a scene with “Grandpa Bludgeon”. He told us we were dumb for being in here just to see if rumors were true about the house being haunted. In case you were wondering, it really is haunted! We then made our way through the house, encountering multiple inbred family members.

In the Lost Souls Trail, we did not get an introduction, but the name speaks for itself. We encountered many lost souls within the corn. Each of them very different from one another, and it kept the haunt fun and unexpected.

The Bludgeon House did well at first, keeping us immersed in the haunt and scares. But, soon after entering, we encountered multiple groups ahead of us. And after that, multiple groups caught up to us, so we were in a big conga line. This took away from the immersion factor because actors couldn’t reset properly due to the number of guests flooding through.

Inside the Lost Souls Trail, we felt like we were completely immersed most of the time. We only had one guest catch up to us, but she did it purposely because her poor father was taken by the creatures of the corn. He had a touch pass, so beware if you choose to get one!

The atmosphere after and between each attraction was much the same as the pre-haunt atmosphere. We encountered the same Midway area and Dead Man’s Farm made us feel like we could stay all night if we wanted to.

Special FX Review:

The sounds inside the Bludgeon House were decent. Toward the middle of the haunt, we didn’t hear much except the screams or voices of the actors and guests. But the beginning had some really good sounds! They played banjo music to make us feel like we were in some inbred home, and at the end they played intense creepy music with a heart beating.

Many sound effects in the Lost Souls Trail were quiet. This did not benefit the haunt very well. We would have liked to hear more sounds within the corn to create a creepier vibe. We enjoyed a few scenes like the dance party scene that had some fun techno music, or the birthday party scene that was playing birthday music.

The scenes in both attractions were amazing! We encountered so much detail that we thought we were in a real haunted house or cornfield filled with lost souls. The house had rooms like a kitchen full of nasty pots and pans, a den or trophy room full of animal heads, with white eyes and lots of gore, and a torture chamber with the torturer, victim, and LOTS of blood, gore, and body parts. The Lost Souls Trail had scenes like the cemetery with tombstones and a coffin, or the doctor’s office with a gurney, bathtub, and an operating table.

Each attraction had incredible props and animatronics. In the Bludgeon House, we encountered things like barrels filled with intestines, a victim getting electrocuted, half a body with intestines still moving, and a giant creature coming through the gates of Hell. In the Lost Souls Trail, we saw things like scarecrows, mannequins, body parts, and birthday decorations.

The Bludgeon Haunted House used sensory effects well. We encountered things like strobe lights with fog, a barrel with “acid” splashing out, nasty smells, and a man propped with his pants down like he was urinating, butt covered in poop, “farting”, and spraying us as we passed by. Disgusting! The Lost Souls Trail had different sensory effects like different colored strobe lights and dimming effects.

Scare Factor Review:

We had a great time in both attractions and at times were very scared. The Bludgeon House was a little more terrifying because there was a lot more gore and tortured victims. Providing scares to everyone in our group was a little tricky in the Bludgeon House because of the bottleneck effect. We were stuck in a big conga line which took away from the scare factor. The actors did their best to scare everyone, but they were unable to reset properly due to constant flow of guests, with no pause in between groups.

Because of the conga line, scares became predictable. We would see an actor out of position before we would even make it to that scene. With that said, there were many other actors and animatronics that triggered at the correct times and provided a proper scare.

The Bludgeon House used MANY different types of scares. For example, they used jump scares, distractions, phobias, disorientation, directional scares, blood and gore, victimization, and the use of multiple senses.

The finale was decent but wasn’t much scarier than the rest of the haunt. We were encased in a room full of fog and flashing lights. Creepy sounds were playing too loudly on the overhead speaker. There were a few actors in the room, but we could hardly see them or anything at all. Then suddenly, we were outside. We think if we could see a little better, if more happened in that room, and if we were not stuck in a conga line, the finale would be much better.

The Lost Souls Haunted Trail was scary and fun. They did a great job of providing scares to all of us. They made us feel like were part of the show and stuck inside some weird nightmare.

Actors were placed perfectly so we had no idea where they were at or what they were going to do. Being in a cornfield makes it easy to hide actors and props. It keeps things unpredictable.

This haunt provided a decent variety of scares, but not as much as the Bludgeon House. There were jump scares, distractions, phobias, camouflage, disorientation, blood, and gore.

The finale was better in the Lost Souls Trail than in the Bludgeon House. We felt like we wanted to run away screaming! We encountered several actors waiting for us in a bloody scene, then there was a chainsaw actor waiting to chase us outside.

E&V Review:

Overall, we were greatly entertained by both the Bludgeon House and the Lost Souls Trail. We enjoyed the Lost Souls Trail a little bit more because there was no bottleneck hold on us during our time, and we felt more interactive with the cast members to enjoy this attraction more.

The entertainment that’s included with the ticket price excludes the main attraction, and is higher priced than most attractions we have seen at other haunts. We always love watching the fire shows, taking photos with the queue actors, or checking out the pumpkin patch.

The ticket price was $32.00 on the night we went. This was the combo ticket price, only including the two attractions mentioned. Based on other attractions in the area and the experience we had, this price seemed fair, but not great. The Minutes per dollar rating is 0.8 which is lower than other attractions we have been to, but not extremely so. Overall, we had a great time at Dead Man’s Farm and look forward to seeing what they come up with in the future!
