Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

Dungeons of Doom – or, as the woman working the ticket booth said the actors refer to it, “Dungeons of Clowns” – is a Springfield, Missouri haunt that just gets better and better every year, and this year was no exception! As the sister haunt to Hotel of Terror, Dungeons of Doom is part of the same family of haunts, but fortunately, it isn’t facing the same fate as Hotel of Terror, which will be closing after this season due to eminent domain. That means Dungeons of Doom will be sticking around!

Guest Experience8.19

Dungeons of Doom shares its website and social media accounts with Hotel of Terror, so information about prices, hours, and parking is listed through Hotel of Terror’s online pages. For a Friday night in October, we were expecting at least some sort of wait, but the entrance was surprisingly quiet. Low attendance meant there wasn’t much happening yet, and most of the actors appeared to be inside. Before we could head inside, security asked us to remove our keys and phones and sent us through a metal detector. They also checked purses before we were allowed to enter. Since we… Read More…

Immersion8.76

There wasn’t much happening outside Dungeons of Doom when we arrived. That may have been due to the lack of a crowd that night, but they more than made up for it once we stepped inside the haunt. From the moment you enter Dungeons of Doom, you truly feel like you’ve stepped into a real-life dungeon. Nearly everything around you appears to be made of stone, while dim, ominous lighting keeps the entire space shrouded in darkness. Skeletons and body parts are scattered throughout, including an upside-down torso that is reminiscent of the infamous kill from Terrifier, split down the… Read More…

Special Effects9.53

Dungeons of Doom gets a lot right, but its use of special effects is one of the things that stood out to me most. We began our journey by crossing a bridge over running water before being greeted by a row of skeleton sconces lining the walls. Draped in red cloaks and clutching burning candles, the skeletons immediately set the tone for what was to come. The lighting throughout the haunt was dim but incredibly atmospheric, giving each scene a unique look and helping Dungeons of Doom stand out from other haunts. Even the walls were designed to resemble stone,… Read More…

With more than 25 actors working the night we visited Dungeons of Doom, there was no shortage of scares. We were warned that the light crowd meant we would likely receive some extra attention from the actors, and they weren’t kidding! We were also reminded before entering that “if you touch the actors, they can touch you.” Jack the Ripper is a familiar favorite who returns every year, and, as always, he was eager to remind us that he wanted to get acquainted with our insides. A very creepy nun followed us, making sure we knew she was never far… Read More…

Scare Factor8.7

The haunt offered a great mix of quiet, lurking characters who kept us on edge and in-your-face chainsaw-wielding actors who came right at us. We were never quite sure what to expect as we rounded each corner or stepped into a wide-open space. That unpredictability is another thing that makes Dungeons of Doom stand out. Rather than being led through narrow hallways in a single-file line, we sometimes found ourselves stepping into large, open areas with no clear idea of which direction we should be watching. I do wish the ending could have been a little more impactful, but the… Read More…

Value8.45

Tickets for the Dungeons of Doom are $25 per person. If you choose to purchase a combo ticket, you will receive admission to Dungeons of Doom, admission to the Hotel of Terror, and either a hay ride or a hearse ride between them for $45. We chose to do the combo and saved $5.

We were able to slow down and take our time with no one in line behind us, and it took us 25 minutes to walk through the entire haunt.
