Summary

Deep in the valley of West Haven, Utah, and bathed in the dark shadows of the Wasatch Range, lies Field of Fear. Now in its 6th season of operation, the Field of Fear is just one of the many attractions that this five-acre farm has to offer. From a giant slide to a terrifying teeter-totter ride that feels straight out of a traveling carnival, there’s no shortage of activities to be found at this fall festival. The star of the show here, however, is the haunted corn maze. This 27-minute-long journey into the corn boasts an incredible atmosphere, a wide… Read More…

Guest Experience8.64

Upon arriving at the Field of Fear, I was immediately drawn in by the scope of the farm setting. Parking was easy, and the entrance process was smooth. Once inside, there was a wide variety of activities to be had. With music, food, and petting zoos, the plaza was lively and high-energy. The Field of Fear wasn’t the only corn maze here either. For those who maybe don’t want to experience the haunt, there was a regular corn maze that, from the looks of it, seemed to have some serious length to it. All the staff I encountered were very… Read More…

Immersion7.43

The entire haunt takes place inside a cornfield (as one might expect), which offers a unique set of strengths. You are constantly immersed throughout, with the quiet nature of the corn walls adding to the atmosphere and overall scares. The exterior has a small but effective castle facade that sets the mood for the haunt ahead. Once inside, the set design is sparse but effective. Most of the layout winds through twisty corners (no pun intended), but occasionally you’ll come across a building or tent that usually holds a unique scare. However, the corn-maze nature of this haunt means you… Read More…

Special Effects8.24

There are not a ton of animatronics to be had at Field of Fear, but the ones they do have are used sparingly and effectively. The courtyard has some fun pneumatic props, and one of my favorites inside the haunt is a clown that peeks out from behind the corn. The sound design is used very well here too. As I said earlier, the quiet parts of the corn maze are definitely the creepiest, and the haunt knows this. A few scenes feature creepy circus music or a loud, pulsing soundtrack, but for the most part the haunt maintains a… Read More…

Characters8.12

You will come across a wide variety of characters here. I came across crazy clowns, praying nuns, and movie theater ushers. There is no shortage of actors inside, and for the most part, every actor played their role well and inserted a lot of personality into their characters. Most of the actors here tend to be on the younger side, but that didn’t stop them from still being fun to interact with. Most of the scarers delivered plenty of funny banter, and occasionally a pretty decent scare. There was also some fun physical acting on display, with a lot of… Read More…

Scare Factor7.91

One of Field of Fear’s greatest strengths lies in its scares. It would be easy to just rely on the jumps coming from out of the corn, but thankfully Field of Fear provides its own unique spin on things. Throughout, there is a wide variety of startles that come from props, actors, or loud noises. The haunt starts off strong, with a string of back-to-back scares hitting you right out of the gate. My personal favorite scare of the night came from a scene with a bunch of metal barrel drums, in which one of them just started randomly banging… Read More…

Value8.45

Field of Fear charges 23$ for a single ticket. Overall, I think it is definitely worth the price. The haunt clocks in at about 25-27 minutes depending on your speed, and has a little bit of everything once inside. Whether it’s maniacs with chainsaws, eerie atmosphere, startling scares, unique lighting effects, animatronics, or laser swamps, Field of Fear manages to find the right balance with all of it. Utah is a state with a lot of competition, and when comparing this haunt to others in the area, it’s definitely not the most technically impressive or grandest in terms of set… Read More…
