What They Liked Most:
$25 General Admission, FREE VIP pass from attending the13th Gate. Old mansion on north Canal St repurposed to haunted house. Permanent infrastrucure a... nd set pieces. Well designed and thoughtful set pieces, painting, props. The design of the haunt was technically good, but just felt a bit too sanitized. I think some compromises on the set had to be taken to protect the historicity of the 150 year old house.
Some specific vigniettes early on of Alice in Wonderland and Wizard of Oz that were well done, but the remaining 80% of the haunted house was fairly generic haunted house faire (except for one Pirate room).
Soundscape was present but created some weird reverb on the hard walls and floor, created echo, made it difficult to hear actors.Read More
Suggested Improvements:
Actors were the big disappointment, other than Alice and Dorothy no named characters, little makeup, some medicore mask work.
Too few actors for si... ze of haunt. House did serpentine through rooms so the few actors that were there could have been set to engage people on multiple sides of traffic; a missed opportunity.
Actors lacked enthusiasm and I didnt get any effective jump scares.
Lighting was well applied both actively and absently, but oddly enough they had to turn lights on and have employee guides with flashlights at top and bottom of a spiral stairwell that broke atmosphere and was clearly required for fire marshall. No midway or concessions.Read More
