What They Liked Most:
Experienced Darden Hollers tonight with my boys and their friends, and the experience started the moment we stepped out of the car!
They had actors... outside, already in character, and I really appreciated how respectful they were of the children. My youngest was a bit too scared, and when I mentioned it, the actors were super cool about breaking character for a moment to reassure him that they were just people in costumes. I ended up taking him home and coming back with the older kids, and they absolutely LOVED it!
But here's the real review.
For me, it's about the art and all its glory.
There's something beautiful about the macabre, isn't there? The way imagination can take something ordinary and twist it into something wonderfully unsettling. How a little paint, some carefully placed shadows, and a convincing performance can make you question what's lurking just beyond the light.
It's storytelling in its most immersive form.
Every grotesque detail of the makeup, every carefully constructed prop, every actor who commits so completely to their character that, for a fleeting moment, you forget there's a person beneath it all. It's an entire world brought to life by people who clearly love what they do.
And I absolutely adore that.
There's an artistry to fear that I think often gets overlooked. It's not just about making someone scream. It's about building anticipation, creating an atmosphere, and pulling people into a story they get to experience rather than simply watch.
Darden Hollers did that beautifully.
And that's coming from a lady who used to visit Halloween Horror Nights every year when I lived in Florida. I've seen some incredible haunted attractions, and I know the kind of creativity and dedication it takes to make one memorable.
