Haunted Trail of Chaos Review (2026)

There is a sign off the main road directing visitors down the narrow road to the haunt. On approach, we saw several team members directing us where to park, making the process easy. We did have to ask where to go to buy tickets, but once we found the booth (if coming from the parking lot, the ticket booth is directly to the left of the queue line), we had no problem. Opening dates, ticket info, and more are available on the haunt’s Facebook page.

While waiting in the queue line, we were entertained by clowns like Dizzy and Phobie, along with the rest of the crew. They even have an orange cat that might be designed to keep you company while you wait in line! In addition to the aforementioned karaoke opportunity, you might even get lucky enough to see some of them dancing in the midway. If you’re hungry while you’re there, you can also check out the Weenie Hut for some refreshments.

For it being so early in the season, the haunt was hoppin’ when we arrived! A DJ was set up by the queue, blasting lively music to entertain waiting customers. You could absolutely tell you’d reached a haunted attraction: in addition to the clowns and other characters roaming the line, they also had multiple large and small monster props set up outside, as well as a makeshift Ferris wheel that several skeletons were riding. Cute!

Following a scary, pre-recorded voice welcoming us to the Trail and giving us a breakdown of some basic rules, we were sent off to brave the shadows of the woods. Haunted Trail of Chaos didn’t seem to follow a single theme or storyline; instead, their scenes were composed of various themes you’d expect to find in many haunts. We walked through a dollhouse, UV-reactive clown rooms, a lair filled with spiders, the property of some deranged hillbillies, and many other themed areas. Other than a couple of speakers being out in the open- one of which might’ve been intentional, as it was lit up with rainbow colors- we didn’t see much that looked to be out of place, like empty water bottles or actors’ personal items.

We encourage the Trail’s team to continue fleshing out each area and adding more detail where they can. With that said, nothing we walked through was completely bare – everything had some degree of paint or blood, bright colors, or props on display. This was an outdoor haunt that’s at the mercy of the elements and we understand that can limit how much can be added to each scene.

The first thing we noticed when we walked through the entrance to the haunt was the slightly tilted floor. You never think about how much your sense of security starts with stable footing – until suddenly stability is reduced. Aside from immediately unnerving us, it also made one thing clear – the inhabitants had the terrain advantage here. As we dodged and ran from clowns, nuns, and other ghouls through the woods, we kept learning that point the hard way – they’re in control here, not us. Actors seemed to come from every possible direction, some we didn’t even think were possible, nailing us from literally every angle. There was no rest or low spot to be found in Haunted Trail of Chaos’s woods. While some of the scenes were lacking in high detail, they made up for it by embracing solid scare mechanics and allowing actors to move through effortlessly, making sure we had nowhere to hide.

As mentioned in the beginning, double-triple-quadruple taps are utilized throughout the trail. While this is an actor-driven haunt that doesn’t rely on animatronics, they will use them to distract you and set up those multi-taps. While there could’ve been more sound or sensory effects (maybe some shifting floors to supplement the natural unevenness of the terrain), there is potential to escalate the scares here even more, even if they are already intense!

Sooo… what kind of characters can you expect to find running amok in this *very* chaotic, haunted trail? Well, welcome to Clown Town – they’re literally everywhere, and you’ll see them before you even set one foot in the haunt! Some of the notable ones we met were those roaming the queue, a demonic-looking clown wearing a tail (?!), and an insane white-haired clown with a chainsaw, who we simply could NOT lose… he reappeared and attacked us several times during our walkthrough. Other fun characters included a lively skull-masked actor in what seemed to be a ghost town, and the bartender, who appeared to offer us drinks. Believe me, we could’ve used that liquid courage – imagine our dismay when she suddenly knocked the cups aside, sending the contents flying! Geez, lady, you’re wasting alcohol! (Also? Bonus points for having a werewolf. They were great!)

The Trail had many actors, some of whom were adept at cutting through to scare us repeatedly (like the chainsaw clown). We’d love to mention more who stood out, but it’s honestly hard when we were getting harassed at every turn and just doing our best to survive. A lot of their interactions and dialogue lined up well with their characters, though we did hear some “get out’s and “keep moving/walking”. There was also a little too much screaming.

As for how they looked, the majority of characters wore costumes you’d expect to see on clowns, hillbillies, movie characters (we saw you, Chucky!), etc. Details varied from character to character, but all of them pretty much got the point across. We spotted a few that were masked or in makeup, but their outfits needed work; they’d have a bloody or ripped shirt up top and then something like clean, intact jeans under it. A little shoutout is in order to whoever did the makeup for the actor dressed as a nurse – she looked so creepy!

… Ohhhh boy.

While we’re absolutely going to say more in this section, the scariness of the Trail can be summed up in two words: buckle up.

This was a heavily actor-focused attraction and not only were they every-freaking-where, they barely gave us room to breathe. We were under near-constant attack; any time we thought we were “safe”, we got a swift and harsh reminder that we were not actually alone – and there was NEVER just one of them! The attacks came from every direction except above, and they pulled out nearly every scare tactic in the book. We were hemmed in, stalked, fell for distraction scares, had groups of characters gang up on us, dealt with multiple crawlers, and who in the hell thought it was a good idea to give that many of them chainsaws?! At one point, one of us took off and left the other surrounded by monsters! They did such a fantastic job of keeping the pressure on the whole way through.

If we had to recommend a way to improve their scare-score, we would like to see more non-actor scares added. They did have some animatronics and spots that left us disoriented, but as the paragraph above suggests, scares were mostly handled by actors.
