Located in Elliston, Virginia, Hexed Haunted Attraction is far more than a simple roadside haunt. It’s a full-throttle assault on the senses, packed with six unique attractions that combine into one wild, unforgettable experience. Hexed has been around for 14 years and has built a strong reputation as a must-visit destination for anyone searching for high-quality, high-energy scares in Southwest Virginia. On any given night, 70 to 90 actors bring the haunt to life, performing in sets they build themselves, which adds an extra layer of authenticity and creativity to the experience.
From the moment you board the bus for your chaotic ride to the midway, it’s clear that Hexed doesn’t hold back. The warning sign at the ticket line boldly states, “If you’re easily offended, you should just leave,” and that perfectly sets the tone for what’s ahead. This place thrives on pushing boundaries, embracing chaos, and delivering in-your-face horror that feels raw, gritty, and unfiltered.
Once you step onto the property, you’re immersed in a world that feels straight out of a horror film, complete with impressive set design, gritty characters, and nonstop energy from start to finish. Every scene is packed with attitude, detail, and intensity, blending traditional haunt elements with a grindhouse-style edge. Between the twisted humor, creative scares, and a fresh take on the classic corn maze, Hexed proves once again why it’s one of the most unforgettable haunts of the season.
Hexed really shines because of its cast, and they absolutely brought it. There were barely any dead spots anywhere in the haunt, which is a huge credit to how well the actors were placed. From the moment you step on the property, the energy is nonstop, and every corner has the potential to freak you out. You can tell everyone there is fully committed to keeping you on edge the whole night.
The actors were creative, believable, and totally in character. Interaction is a big part of the fun here. You get a nonstop mix of screaming, creepy whispers, and people getting way too close for comfort. The scares aren’t just the big jump moments. They range from loud and shocking to slow and just plain disturbing, keeping you guessing the whole time.
Some of the standout characters really left an impression. Elias Woodson, the man in the wheelchair, goes straight for the guests he wants and gets up close and personal, making it feel like he’s got his sights locked on you. Stinky Stella in the bathroom? She’s legitimately scary, intense, and makes you tense the second you step in. The Bible person in the library brought this completely unhinged energy, reading Bible verses in a way that made the scene feel super eerie. Out in the junkyard, the crew kept things chaotic and loud, and there was even a funny moment where one guy made us “play with his third leg,” which had the whole group laughing.
Inside the prison, Captain Ulysses Klaw and his two guards totally owned the space, adding real authority and intimidation. Nurse Shelby and the specimen in the infirmary made the whole area feel tense and just off, like you weren’t really supposed to be there. Mama Butterbean in the cafeteria stole the show. She wanted to feed us her meat, and her over-the-top personality made the whole encounter equal parts hilarious and gross. The fighters in the shower room brought pure chaos, keeping the adrenaline going.
Barnaby the bunny was the only character in the midway, and he nailed it. Part charming, part creepy, and 100 percent memorable. He interacted with everyone in a way that made it funny but also just a little unsettling, the perfect end to the cast’s lineup.
Overall, the cast at Hexed killed it. Every actor brought energy, creativity, and total commitment, making every scare feel real and every encounter feel personal.
The commitment to costuming at Hexed matched the high energy of the cast, creating a visual feast of fear that fully supported the varied environments. The detail was exceptional, and it was clear that a lot of thought went into every piece from head to toe. Characters like the cursed pig were jaw-dropping, looking like a human had been grotesquely transformed in the most horrifying way. The junkyard goons were equally impressive, with every grimy detail, like veins that seemed to pump with motor oil, adding to the chaos of their scenes. The mask quality across the haunt was top-tier, especially the custom-made masks for the living jack-o’-lanterns. They looked so realistic it was easy to imagine a pumpkin face crudely sliced off and stitched into a mask, and it added an almost cinematic edge to the haunt.
While the masks were fantastic, there is always room to push the realism even further. Using makeup to blend human features into the costumes, like black around the eyes to give masks more depth or paint on the neck to seamlessly connect a painted face, would elevate the immersion to another level. Even without those extra touches, every character perfectly fit their scene and enhanced the environment around them.
The queue actors also brought their A-game, setting the tone before the haunt even officially started. Barnaby the witty, bantering rabbit had us laughing and on edge at the same time, while a highly skilled fire performer added danger and spectacle that immediately raised expectations for what was to come. Every costume, from the main haunt to the pre-show characters, showed a dedication to creativity and detail that made Hexed feel fully alive, visually and atmospherically, long before the scares even began.
The behind-the-scenes operation at Hexed ran smoothly, making the entire visit stress-free from start to finish. The property was easy to find, and we felt safe and secure throughout the attraction. It’s clear the staff takes guest safety seriously. Everyone we encountered was professional, helpful, and friendly. Important information was easy to find ahead of time, with a detailed website that included everything needed to plan the visit. The attraction isn’t ADA accessible due to the bus ride, uneven terrain, and tight spaces, but the staff does a great job making sure every guest has a safe and enjoyable experience.
Hexed excelled at creating a vibrant, terrifying environment that flowed naturally between its six distinct sections of the haunt. The midway set the tone perfectly, with a horror movie playing on a big screen and the queue actors keeping guests entertained and on edge. The vibe was strong, though the area could be even better with a few more actors and some interactive games to keep things extra lively.
There isn’t a single overarching storyline, but each of the six sections is fully realized and hair-raising, constantly shifting the landscape of fear and keeping you on your toes. The transitions from one section to the next were seamless, and we stayed completely immersed the entire time. The corn maze stood out as the most unique we’ve ever experienced. Narrow enough for only a single-file walk, it created a real sense of claustrophobia as the stalks seemed to close in around us. Most corn mazes just don’t compare to what Hexed has built.
The special effects team at Hexed leveraged smart design and sensory overloads to maximize the terror. Sound effects were used effectively, though some rooms wisely relied on the raw, intense performance and bantering of the live actors. The scene designs were a highlight. The house sections were a perfect depiction of a Chainsaw Massacre-style backwoods lair, complete with bugs and walls that felt like they were literally grabbing you (and sometimes they will). Great props and animatronics were used very effectively, showing strong attention to detail with strategic lighting. They used sensory effects masterfully, specifically noting the strobes and fog-filled rooms that took away all visibility, leaving us wandering blindly and wondering when the next ghoul would strike.

Hexed delivered a powerful, well-rounded mix of scares that kept everyone in our group on edge. It was genuinely frightening and consistently tense, with each member of our group getting their fair share of scares. The unpredictability of the haunt was a major highlight, thanks to the creative methods and high-energy performances that avoided anything feeling staged or routine. There was plenty of variety, from classic jump scares to actors talking to themselves in unsettling ways, as well as quick-witted performers who engaged us directly, making every moment feel fresh and intense. The only minor area for improvement was the finale. While the classic chainsaw ending was included, it leaned more on tradition than on high-intensity interaction. A slightly more active or in-your-face approach could make the ending feel as thrilling and impactful as the rest of the haunt.
Hexed Haunted House offers excellent value, turning a simple haunted house visit into a full-evening experience that feels like one continuous, high-energy haunt with six distinct sections. We were extremely satisfied with the quality and variety throughout all six sections, each offering its own unique scares, surprises, and atmosphere while flowing seamlessly from one to the next.
The experience goes beyond the haunted trail itself. The included entertainment, particularly the bus ride to the midway and back to the parking lot, adds an extra layer of fun and chaos, a party bus driven by what felt like a psycho, blasting music and keeping us hanging on tight. Ticket prices are very reasonable. With our General Admission at $30.00 and an estimated walk-through time of 35 minutes for all six sections, the Minutes Per Dollar (MPD) comes out to about 1.17, making this an excellent value for a top-tier haunt experience. Of course, some groups may take longer depending on pace and size, which makes it an even better deal.
For those planning their visit, Hexed offers a few ticketing options. Note that prices can increase by $5.00 on the busiest nights. General Admission is typically $30.00, Fast Pass Admission, reducing wait time, is $40.00, and Group General Admission tickets are available for $25.00 per person for 10 or more guests, online only. Parking is a separate fee of $10.00, cash only, and is collected by a third party.
