Fortunately, the cast at Marr Branch came ready for war. Right from the start inside the house, Jericho set the tone as a master storyteller who was actually raised on the haunted Marr Branch farm property. He pulls you directly into the lore with absolute conviction.
From there, the character variety is downright unhinged. You encounter a deranged lunch lady who is dead set on rubbing her warm “pasketti” noodles all over you, followed by a horde of shirtless, crazed pig people who scream bloody murder, vanish, and then reappear right when you drop your guard. You also run headfirst into a brutal Mad Max-style maniac swinging a giant mallet, and if that’s not enough to make you freeze, there’s a towering, 7.5-foot beast roaming the property covered in fresh blood, sporting massive antlers, and letting out earth-shaking roars.
The costuming at Marr Branch matches its gritty, backwoods identity to perfection. Rather than sterile, store-bought outfits, the wardrobe here looks like it was dragged through farm dirt, soaked in blood, and worn for weeks by actual degenerates. The deranged lunch lady looked delightfully filthy. The pig masks and backwoods makeup choices fit the rural slaughterhouse aesthetic like a glove. The only minor critique we have is that a few of the masked actors desperately needed black eye makeup applied underneath. When you can see pale, normal human skin around the eyeholes and edges of a mask, it momentarily breaks the illusion of the monster. A quick touch-up with some eye black on those masks would take their terrifying looks all the way to 100%.
The energy, aggression, and banter from this crew were relentless. They know how to invade your personal space, deliver hilarious and terrifying one-liners, and keep you off-balance. While a few scenes along the trail had brief dead spots that could use an extra monster, the sheer dedication from the performers who met us was unforgettable.
