Ever since I was a kid, I have loved all things Halloween & horror. I find peace in sitting at home in the dark with some candles lit, watching a horror movie alone. One of my first horror movies was the original Stephen King Pet Semetery and I was probably way too young to be watching! I went on to read quite a few of his books when I was a teenager and then got enveloped into the horror movie world. My favorite genre is found footage and mockumentaries.
My passion was always during the Halloween season though. Being able to go to the haunts and getting to “experience” those horror movies in real life- like we were living a real-life horror movie in a way. Over the last decade, I have gone to numerous haunts a year, filling my weekends up wherever I can with all the spooky goodness. I drag my other half around to each of the haunts near us every season, and I must say he was not very fond of haunts before he met me.
I make oddities art for a living- a little ADHD mix of all kinds of things from gothic Memento Mori wall décor, to bone & insect art- and travel around the state doing markets and cons. It has been a dream of mine for quite some time to make creative weird things and be surrounded by other weirdos that too appreciate the dark & macabre aspect of life. I also enjoy all things paranormal, and even do my own investigations in my free time.
I went to my first haunt at five years old, which was a tiny maze in the middle of an Iowa cornfield. Instead of being traumatized like a normal child, I decided, “This is my entire
personality now.” Ever since, horror has been my happy place.
Now I work in live entertainment, overseeing performers and managers for Disney Cruise Line and Cirque du Soleil. I spend my life wrangling talented humans, keeping shows running, and pretending I’m calm even when everything is on fire.
Haunts are where everything comes together for me. It’s the same magic I chase in my day job, just with more fog machines and fewer acrobats.
