Summary:

Scare City Experience offers a heart-pounding journey through nine distinct horror zones merged within a single trail and set within the abandoned Camelot Theme Park. In Slaughter House, you’re the guest—and the main course—at a serial cannibal’s sinister dinner party. Carni Valley twists the classic funhouse into a disorienting nightmare of shifting floors and warped reflections. Arakhne draws you into the lair of the spider queen and her swarm. The Basilica of Galgani hides a dark sisterhood devoted to an altar of evil, while the Infirmary subjects visitors to the “care” of dubious doctors in blood-stained operating rooms. At Reaper’s Ranch, cursed scarecrows and sinister forces make any stay here a permanent one. Junkyard is a wasteland stalked by a serial killer lurking among rusted cars, while Vallis Mortis warps fairy tales into woodland horrors where shadows hide dark secrets. Finally, Contained brings you face-to-face with hordes of infected, a viral outbreak testing your survival instincts. Each zone is a unique test of courage in an unrelenting nightmare, making this an unforgettable horror experience.

Cast Review:

The cast more than delivered, bringing a believable and often chilling intensity to their roles. Every actor committed to their performance, creating moments that felt both immersive and unsettling.

Throughout the experience, the use of vignettes added to the eerie atmosphere, each scene more disturbing than the last. In Carni Valley, for example, a clown beheading was executed with a macabre flair that was hard to forget. The exorcism scene in the Basilica of Galgani also felt like a crafted, superb horror vignette, capturing a tense, almost cinematic horror moment – but not without a measure of humour.

The physicality of the actors was remarkable, adding a visceral layer to each encounter. In Reaper’s Ranch, the scarecrows’ jerky, stop-and-start movements made them seem inhuman and unpredictable, while the arachnid-like creatures in Arakhne crawled and lunged from small spaces in ways that were indeed unnerving. Even in Slaughter House, the serial killers didn’t hold back—one actor in a disturbing brainless head-covering reclined in a loud, jarring chair, while another gave off a Hannibal Lecter vibe, getting unsettlingly close.

One of the most striking moments came in Vallis Mortis, where a massive stilt-walker cornered one of us, blocking the path with its towering costume, and refusing to let us pass. Later, in the same area, a life-sized doll character interacted with our group, inviting one of us to “swap faces” with her. Her voice and tone shifted as she smashed up close to our faces with hands covered in eyeballs—a disturbingly memorable performance.

The sheer variety of characters kept us on edge and engaged, each encounter bringing a fresh horror. This cast showcased incredible range and commitment to their roles, making the experience unforgettable.

Costuming Review:

The costumes were outstanding, fully bringing each character to life with intricate detail. Every creature and figure felt genuine, making it easy to forget you weren’t seeing the real thing. The masks were integrated into the costumes, so much so that it was impossible to tell where the character ended and the costume began.

Special mention goes to the hauntingly inventive clowns in Carni Valley, especially one massive mascot-style clown suit that was both absurd and terrifying. Other memorable designs included a woman transformed into a grotesque, writhing worm, and a disturbing half-figure of an elderly woman fused into a couch, manically waving as we passed by.

The arachnid creatures had fully realised, multi-eyed faces that added a sinister realism to their half-human, half-spider forms, making them some of the most unnerving costumes of the night. In Junkyard, the costumes took on a gritty, apocalyptic aesthetic, pieced together from discarded items, which added to the immersive, dystopian atmosphere.

The level of craftsmanship was exceptional, with each costume enhancing the character and creating a chilling, believable experience.

Customer Service Review:

The experience was generally enjoyable with staff pleasant and helpful, but there were some logistical issues. It felt odd that the entire attraction wasn’t open all at once, requiring us to wait in the rest area longer than we’d have liked at the half-way point. A quicker pace would have kept the momentum going, but we understand that with such a huge site this might not have been feasible.

The batch sizes for groups were well-managed, but spacing between groups could have been improved to enhance the immersive experience and reduce any chance of overlap. With a few adjustments, the flow and timing could create a smoother, more continuous experience for guests.

Immersion Review:

The trail was incredibly immersive from start to finish. Right from the park’s entrance, the eerie lighting created a shimmering, unsettling atmosphere that set the tone perfectly. Each scene felt like a crafted space, defined and designed to pull you into the story.

At the beginning, in the pre-haunt area, dramatic lighting, haunting music, and a large-scale projection created an impressive opening scene that established the scale of the experience. While each setting was captivating to see, the storyline within each space could have been more plainly conveyed to deepen the sense of progression and narrative.

Special FX Review:

The special effects added an incredible depth to the experience, enhancing each setting with thoughtful details. In the Basilica of Galgani, the smell of incense filled the church, while the Infirmary had a sterile, disinfected scent—both of which made each scene feel even more authentic.

The soundscape was continuous, immersing you even when wandering through the woods, with eerie ambient sounds that kept tension high. Outdoor lighting effects were executed beautifully, with atmospheric fog that added an extra layer of mystery. In Carni Valley, there was a humorously illusory a beheading, whilst inside neon lighting that made the scenes feel like a surreal funhouse.
The Arakhne maze was covered in camouflage netting with projected spiders crawling across surfaces, creating an intense, unsettling atmosphere. The Junkyard set featured towering, rusted cars, adding a grand, post-apocalyptic scale to the scene. Back in the Basilica, stained glass hangings were lit to perfection, mimicking real windows, and long, hovering candles floated from the ceiling, reminiscent of the magical ambiance of Harry Potter. One standout moment in the Basilica was when a nun in an instant lunged down at us from above, thanks to a harness that made her movement shockingly fast and dramatic.

In Contained, the clever use of alternating dark and light effects left you always on edge, never knowing what might happen next. The variety and quality of special effects, from lighting to scent to large-scale set pieces, created an unforgettable, immersive experience.

Scare Factor Review:

This experience delivered some intense scares for both of us. There were a few well-timed jump scares that, while sometimes predictable, still got our hearts racing. At other moments, actors took a more subtle approach, stalking us for extended periods, blocking our path, and creating a constant sense of unease.

The scares were well-distributed across the entire group, though in larger batches, those of us at the front sometimes missed out on scares that were directed toward the back. It sometimes felt like the group’s reactions alerted us too soon, reducing the impact for those ahead.

The scares were very physical, with actors getting right up in our faces—some even lolling their tongues or “snuffling” inches away, adding an unsettling intimacy to the experience. Actors on harnesses lunged from above, and spider-like creatures crept up from below, creating an all-encompassing, physical thrill that kept us on edge.

The ending felt a bit different to the rest of the experience, but the park’s atmosphere continued to linger as we walked between attractions, adding to a remaining feeling of dread. It was an immersive, extreme physical experience with some most memorable scares.

E&V Review:

We enjoyed the free firework show, which was a fantastic bonus and added great value to the experience. The main entertainment was very satisfying, though the extra offerings, like the DJ stage, felt a bit underwhelming in comparison. One highlight was an impressive roaming mummy actor who interacted with guests and added some fun energy to the atmosphere. Yet, more ambient entertainment or roaming characters could have enhanced the vibe and made the rest area feel more engaging.

The experience delivered good value, with an approximate end to end length of 35 minutes (although this doesn’t include time spent at the rest stop), with room to elevate the atmosphere and more entertainment elements for an even more memorable time.
