When we say there’s nothing around, we truly mean it, and when it comes to immersion, you can’t get any better than that! Heading down that long gravel driveway sets you up for something out of a Wrong Turn movie. Anything could happen at any time, and you haven’t even left your car.
In the first line, standing in the middle of a dark field, you get a sense that you are being herded like cattle to your uncertain demise.
But once inside the ticketed area, you are thrown into an old ghost town that once thrived is now decaying and vacant, and you feel like one of the last townspeople of Blackwood Hollow as you wait. At the end of the street stands Blackwood Manor. A Victorian mansion watches over the dying town, ready to claim its next victim. Before you enter the manor, you meet Hawthorne Blackwood as he steps onto the upper balcony and tells you what happened to his beloved town, home, and wife. The plague has swept through the town, and the darkness has taken over.
Heading through the manor, multiple scenes make you feel rot of the plague and the suffering of what is left of the house staff, along with the spirits that call this place home. From flickering sconces on the walls, spiders that have claimed rooms for themselves, to the grotesque kitchen littered with rotten food and the musty library, the mansion is a work of art.
As you journey through the Trail of the Lost, the forest slowly swallows you, but the flame-lit trail keeps you just outside the darkness’s reach. The trail twists and turns, leading you to the Witch’s hut, where you see flickering candles, bottles filled with who knows what, and bones thrown about. The smell of potions dances through the air, and you feel a lump of fear in your throat, not knowing where she might be lurking.
Finally, you stumble upon Pandemonium, a colorful, high-energy dark carnival run by those maniacs’ people either love or love to hate. The labyrinth of the circus tent is defined by maniacal laughter piercing through the rooms, underscored by the soundtrack of everyone’s favorite carnival.
