Imagine driving down the road deep in southeastern Aurora, Colorado, surrounded by rows and rows of dimly lit homes, just far enough from the neon lights of the nearby stores and restaurants that the moonlight can once more be seen, when you spot a glowing mass of fog and movement in the distance.

As you approach, the scene comes into relief and your heart quickens. You have just found The Bloxands Haunt, an inspiring home haunt featuring a symphony of seasonal sights and sounds, including a menagerie of monsters packed along the walk-through path. When the gates are open, visitors are welcomed through the cemetery archway, where they are greeted by a giant animatronic skeleton who reads through the rules, such as not touching the props.

From there, the walk is lined on both sides with creepy decor and creations, some friendly and some demonic, including several custom pieces lovingly built by the hosts of the haunt, Adam and Jordan.

The special effects throughout the haunt are incredibly well done. The lighting splashed around the yard gives the entire area an eerie atmosphere, which is heightened by the blasts of fog that solidify the haunted ambiance. The air is filled with the sounds of the animatronics, but the volumes are set well, avoiding the unintelligible din that can happen when too many speakers are blasting at once.

Visitors can enjoy the variety of mechanical monsters set in different scenes, including a witch’s cabin, a circus tent complete with a few really cool clown animatronics, and the harvest-gone-wrong section with pumpkins and jack o’lanterns that would make even Linus himself run from the pumpkin patch.

The Bloxands Haunt also has the tremendous fortune of having good neighbors, which is critical for any home haunt to strive for its peak like this one is. That includes the church across the street that permits Adam and Jordan’s visitors to use their parking lot, which keeps the street clear. Although most of the time, The Bloxands Haunt isn’t inhabited by the breathing, on October 17th, the home haunt will be holding its official opening, which will feature live actors in addition to the manifold mechanical miscreants. On Halloween night, things kick into high gear and the Bloxands Haunt is guaranteed to be packed with visitors and trick-or-treaters, where they are sure to be prepared for guests, both young and over 21.
