The Haunted Farm in Hendersonville, North Carolina, is far more than a seasonal scare; it is a legendary 15-year passion project that serves as a monument to resilience and sheer artistic will. Born from a desire to bring something fun and unique to the local community, this colossal attraction encompasses 15,000 square feet of indoor space and about 5 acres of outdoor terror.

It was tragically decimated by Hurricane Helene in 2024, forcing the cancellation of its 14th season the day before opening. The successful and dedicated rebuilding effort that followed is nothing short of a triumph. The owners are justifiably proud of how they overcame the loss of their trees, diligently cleaning up and rebuilding the entire area to craft a mostly new experience that still flows seamlessly and captures the feeling of the woods.

With brand-new attractions for 2025, including The Lodge, Den of Despair, and The Cannibal Cabin, The Haunted Farm is back, bigger, and ready to reclaim its title as a top-tier haunt destination. We were thrilled to face the immense challenge of this entirely rebuilt haunted landscape.

Cast: 7.06

1. Did it seem like there were enough actors? (25% of score): 7.25

2. How creative, believable, convincing were they? (35% of score): 7

3. How interactive (verbally, physically) were the actors? (20% of score): 7

4. Was there a good variety of characters (behavior)? (20% of score): 7

A haunt’s level of terror really comes down to the commitment of its ghouls, and The Haunted Farm has no shortage of potential. They run with a huge cast of around 65 to 85 paid actors a night, all of them trained before the season kicks off. We were the very first group through on opening night, so we know some actors were still getting into the swing of things. Once the season hits full stride, we have no doubt the energy and consistency will be there across the board. Early on, a few cast members leaned more on lurking in the shadows than really engaging, which made some areas feel a little light for the size of the sets.

That said, the ones who really went all-in totally stole the show. The Dentist was insane with wild energy the whole time and easily one of the creepiest we ran into. The Witch was another favorite; she had great banter and knew exactly how to keep us on edge. The Tree Man on stilts was terrifying when he came out of nowhere in the woods, and the Miner in the elevator made that whole scene way more intense. The possessed girl gave off some seriously unsettling vibes, and the Exorcist bending and twisting around like that was freaky to watch up close. The Iron Giant in the boiler room had us feeling tiny, and the library with the satanic figure and their mouth sewn shut was one of those scenes that just sticks with you.

The midway had its own crew of characters to keep things lively between attractions, including Trixie, Sprinkles, Grisly, Citrus, Burning Sissy, and the Nun. Combined with Gertie and a few other big personalities, they really helped keep the energy flowing and the crowd entertained. While not every scare landed at the same level, the highlights proved how much talent and passion this team has, and we’re excited to see how the cast comes together as the season builds.

Costuming: 9.29

5. How complete, unique, detailed were the costumes, accessories? (35% of score): 9

7. How appropriate were the costumes for the respective scenes, themes? (20% of score): 9.5

8. How believable-, detailed-looking were the queue actors? (See Note if N/A) (15% of score): 9.75

The artistic dedication poured into the sets is flawlessly mirrored in the costuming. The creative team, led by Paul Clough on makeup, has established a benchmark for authenticity and detail. The attire worn by the cast was truly phenomenal, with most pieces being custom-made on site. This commitment to internal fabrication resulted in highly detailed costumes and accessories that were meticulously appropriate for every thematic environment, from the filthy inhabitants of the Depths of Terror to the crazed patients of The Insane Asylum.

The quality of the masks and makeup was superb, artistic, intricate, and deeply realistic, ensuring the characters felt believably horrific. This dedication even carried into the queue area, where the actors were highly detailed, professional-looking, and fully committed to keeping the waiting crowd on edge.

10. Safety (Only dock points for TRULY DANGEROUS hazards!) (30% of score): 10

11. How professional, helpful, friendly were the staff members? (25% of score): 10

12. How easy was it to find pertinent information before arrival? (20% of score): 10

The customer experience at The Haunted Farm is stellar from start to finish. Safety is clearly a core priority, as the attraction is C.H.A.O.S. Certified by The Haunted Attraction Association and employs off-duty police.

Locating the premises and navigating the parking area was straightforward and highly efficient. We felt extremely secure throughout the entire property. The entire staff, from the Midway attendants to the on-trail personnel, was professional, accommodating, and exceptionally friendly.

The haunt also makes a solid effort to be accessible, noting that while some areas are not ADA-compliant, they do their best to accommodate everyone. Finding all the necessary operational details before our arrival was a very easy process.

Immersion: 8.4

13. How well did the pre-haunt areas ("vibe") prepare you for the attraction/s? (25% of score): 8.5

14. How obvious, creative, believable was the storyline? (See Note if N/A) (20% of score):

15. Were you completely, consistently immersed inside the attraction/s? (40% of score): 8

16. How well did the "vibe" flow after, between the attraction/s? (15% of score): 9.25

The atmosphere in the pre-haunt area did a phenomenal job of setting the stage for what was to come. The Midway was alive with energy, featuring upbeat music over the PA system and queue actors who were both creepy and entertaining, always ready to interact or stop for photo opportunities. A live band playing for the general admission line added an extra spark of excitement, while horror movies on a big screen kept everyone entertained and in the Halloween spirit. The overall vibe was that of a spooky festival, with plenty to see and do even before stepping foot inside the attraction.

Once inside, the experience spread across multiple sections, including the Woods, The Farm, The Lodge, and more. The scenic work was impressive and provided strong immersion that made each area feel distinct and believable. There were a few transitional walkways between the massive sets that felt like “dead areas,” breaking the flow at times, but the intensity of the design in each scene quickly pulled us right back into the narrative. From towering structures to creepy, tucked-away details, it was clear that an immense amount of effort went into creating environments that could stand on their own.

When we exited, the flow of the night continued seamlessly into a well-stocked merchandise shop where guests could grab a souvenir and take a piece of the haunt home with them. The overall atmosphere, both before and after the attraction, created a complete experience that lingered long after we left.

Special Effects: 8.73

17. How effective were the sound effects? (20% of score): 7

18. How realistic were the scene designs, details? (30% of score): 9.5

19. How effective, realistic were the props, animatronics? (30% of score): 9.25

20. How well did they use creative, special, sensory effects? (20% of score): 8.5

The set design and overall scene composition at this haunt are truly world-class. The level of detail here is genuinely some of the absolute best we’ve encountered at any haunt. The build team, who utilize a small dedicated crew alongside occasional actor and volunteer assistance, proudly builds and paints all their own sets, decorating with a mixture of custom pieces, junk, and quality purchased items.

The immersive path took us through a terrifying list of attractions, including the Lively Farmhouse, the infamous Boiler Room, the grotesque Chop House, and the colorful nightmare of The Big Top Psycho Circus. Scene highlights included an incredible multi-level catwalk in the Boiler Room, an evil book room, and the intense dental exam area. The haunt utilized realistic and bloody body parts made in-house or purchased from specialty vendors.

Animatronics were effective, perfectly timed, and well-lit. The creative use of sensory effects, including stenchy smells, strobes, and masterful lighting design, was highly impressive. The primary area needing attention was sound design, as ambient sound effects were either absent in certain areas or not played loudly enough to sustain the constant atmospheric tension.

The Scare Factor: 8.15

21. How scary was it? (35% of score): 8

22. How well did they provide scares to everyone in the group? (15% of score): 8.5

23. How predictable were the scares? (25% of score): 8

24. How well did they provide a wide variety (types) of scares? (10% of score): 8

25. How strong was the ending / finale? (15% of score): 8.5

The sheer ambition and world-class scenic quality of The Haunted Farm make it feel like it should be one of the scariest attractions in the region, and in many ways, it delivers. A haunt’s true intensity comes from the performers, and while some moments were stronger than others, the overall experience still provided plenty of thrills. We encountered several well-executed jump scares, and the brilliant costuming helped keep things unpredictable, with figures blending seamlessly into the scenery until they sprang to life.

The actors were generally quieter rather than chatty, relying mostly on presence, movement, and timing to create tension. While the scares leaned heavily on jump moments rather than a wide variety of horror types, the performers who fully committed made those moments highly effective, keeping us on edge as we moved through the attraction. The ending was particularly strong and unexpected, delivering a satisfying final twist that capped off the experience in a way that left a lasting impression. Overall, the combination of ambitious sets, immersive design, and standout performances shows that The Haunted Farm has the talent and potential to be an unforgettable haunt, and once the cast hits full stride later in the season, it’s clear the scare factor will only get stronger.

Entertainment & Value: 8.75

26. How satisfied with the entertainment provided by the MAIN attraction/s? (50% of score): 8.5

27. How satisfied with OTHER entertainment INCLUDED with the ticket price? (25% of score): 9

28. How appropriate is/are the ticket price/s? (25% of score): 9

The entertainment value at The Haunted Farm is impressive, thanks to the obvious time, labor, and artistic detail poured into the sets and the sheer scale of the attractions. Guests move through areas like The Woods, The Lodge, The Den of Despair, The Cannibal Cabin, The Depths of Terror, The Insane Asylum, and many more, each crafted with care and designed to immerse visitors fully.

The potential of this haunt is undeniable. Even outside the main attractions, the bustling Midway provides a fun and engaging space to hang out, making the entire experience feel lively from start to finish.

It took us about 33 minutes to get through the entire attraction, which makes the general admission price of $40 come out to roughly $0.83 per minute of entertainment.

Ticket prices are structured as follows:

General Admission: $40

Fast Pass Admission – All Ages: $65

General Admission – Child (10 and under): $35

Group Ticket – General Admission: $36

Group Ticket – Fast Pass Admission: $61

Considering the impressive quality of the sets, the extensive grounds, and the monumental effort required to rebuild after Hurricane Helene, the ticket prices feel fair, even if slightly on the higher side. The Fast Pass option is highly recommended, especially during peak hours, to ensure a smoother, more seamless experience. With its dedication to detailed sets and immersive design, The Haunted Farm is a must-visit haunt, and we highly recommend it for anyone looking for a top-tier scare.
