Arx Mortis is easy to find along Highway 72 in Killen, Alabama, with plenty of free on-site parking and additional overflow parking available at the nearby high school. General Admission tickets are $32.99, with Slash Pass upgrades available for an additional fee. Purchasing tickets online is recommended, as the ticket booth lines can be lengthy. Immersion9.22

Arx Mortis features six distinct storylines, each with its own setting and atmosphere, giving the haunt a nice variety of environments to explore throughout the experience. Each section felt thoughtfully developed, with unique scenery that helped distinguish one story from the next. Most areas also featured some form of overhead covering, which helped create a more enclosed environment and made it easier to become immersed in the individual scenes without being reminded that the entire attraction is housed within one large building. Some areas also incorporated outdoor elements, such as the graveyard and circus tent. While the overall presentation was… Read More…

Special Effects9.33

The special effects at Arx Mortis helped create an engaging atmosphere, with good ambient lighting throughout and plenty of accent lighting to highlight details within each scene. The thunderstorm light sequence in the Bayou area was a highlight. Scents were used subtly across most of the haunt, with a few actors appearing to incorporate character-specific scents that added another layer to their performances. Several animatronics were featured throughout the attraction, providing a nice balance with the live actors rather than overwhelming the experience. Most fit their surroundings well, although a couple appeared to either not be in use or needed… Read More…

Characters9.38

Arx Mortis features quite a cast of characters, with memorable personalities scattered throughout the haunt and performers who fit naturally into their respective scenes. The first third of the experience seemed to have actors tucked into nearly every nook and cranny, keeping us on our toes, though the numbers tapered off a bit as we progressed through the later-themed areas. We had heard about the eye doctor and dentist before our visit, and both lived up to the anticipation – especially the dentist, who was a definite highlight! In the vampire scene, we were offered a variety of soups, and… Read More…

Scare Factor9.1

Arx Mortis gets off to an intense start, with scares coming quickly and from all directions throughout the first third of the haunt. The strong presence kept us guessing about where the next scare might come from, and the performers did a great job making sure no one in our group was overlooked. As we moved into the later themed areas, the scares became a little less frequent, but the character interactions continued to be a highlight. Nearly every character we spoke with had engaging dialogue and adapted quickly to our comments and reactions, making each encounter feel more personal… Read More…

Value8.71

With a 32-minute walkthrough and a general admission ticket price of $32.99, Arx Mortis delivers an MPD (minutes per dollar) ratio of 0.97, offering a strong amount of walkthrough time compared to many of the haunts we visit. The value extends beyond the haunt itself, as guests can spend additional time exploring Fright Town, interacting with roaming characters, enjoying the many photo opportunities, and soaking up the lively, autumn carnival atmosphere. With food, entertainment, and activities available throughout the midway, there are plenty of ways to make an evening at Arx Mortis more than just a trip through the haunt.
