Summary:

Throughout the United States and across the world, Escape Games have become extremely popular. They are a great way for friends, families and even co-workers to escape the reality of the real world and spend an hour or less to find their way out. When it comes to Albuquerque, New Mexico, there are several escape room companies that offer a wide range of themed escape rooms.

New Mexico Escape Room offers 6 unique escape rooms ranging from Nefertiti Tomb to Blackwell Manor. For our experience we had the pleasure of experiencing Cabin 2.0.

Atmosphere & Customer Service: 9.8

New Mexico Escape Room is located close to Interstate 25 in the suburbs of Albuquerque. There is a large sign at the entrance and plenty of free parking spaces.

As soon as we entered, we were greeted by a friendly host so we could check in. She asked us if we had any questions and showed us to the very comfortable waiting area in case we wanted to wait or use the restroom before we started our escape room experience. While she showed us to our room, she told us about the other escape games that had Hollywood-quality theming. Every member of staff we encountered was very friendly.

Immersion: 9.08

From the moment we layed eyes upon the cabin façade of Cabin 2.0, we were fully immersed in the story. Our host told us the rules and gave us a clue to start our escape. We were told we had to find a missing person while trying to out smart a serial killer. As soon as the door was closed, the lighting dimmed and an audio recording played of the killer telling us what he did and that we had an hour to find our way out of the cabin!

As soon as our eyes adjusted to the light, we were in a fully-built cabin from floor to ceiling; there was even a fireplace and a taxidermy deer head on the wall. We all agreed there was a definite Evil Dead vibe and we couldn’t be happier! We also noticed the gory human body on the wall giving us a idea of the grotesque sights that awaited us.

Audio throughout the experience was very well used from recordings playing to sound effects all helping to push the story onward. The lighting was also executed well, it was just bright enough for us too see what we were doing. There were some puzzles that even used blacklight and some very creative use of lighting for the puzzles themselves. One puzzle involved the colored lighting on the ceiling. The other puzzle used lasers, while this was a genius idea for a puzzle it did seem to slightly break the cabin theme.

We all agreed that this was a very original theme for an escape room. From beginning to end, the cabin theme flowed from room to room. Throughout our escape experience, we never felt like we were not trying to escape the killer.

Gameplay: 9.3

Cain 2.0 had us fully engaged from beginning to end, although it took us a few minutes to figure out the first puzzle. However, once it was solved, the next puzzle was activated. There were a few number and physical locks but what was revealed once unlocked perfectly fit with the theme. The hint system was an iPad tablet that provided several levels of clues. There were some puzzles that we had to use a hint on and it also helped to promote teamwork as at times we had to send a member of our team to go through rooms to communicate the clues.

The puzzles were very creative with how high-tech they were without breaking the theme of the room. While we don’t want to ruin the experience for anyone who experiences this escape room, we will say that there are several secret passages that took us by surprise and some very creative puzzles that will make every member of your group work togeather.

Some of the final puzzles had the sound, lighting, and atmosphere that added to the intensity. We also loved the use of professional haunt-grade fog throughout the room. There are also some puzzles that involve gory sights and props you have to study. We were able to see the remaining time on the clue system as well. Cabin 2.0 was designed to be enjoyed by a group of 2 or more.

Entertainment & Value: 10

For a sixty-minute escape room, Cabin 2.0 comes to 33 dollars per person with the total for a group of 4 coming to $132.00, which is a great entertainment value for your dollar and is a pretty standard price for rooms these days. The booking for the escape room is private and no random guests will be put with your team.

With this being our first escape room as Team Brewhaha, we finished the room with less than thirty seconds to spare. With the Cabin 2.0 as well as the facades of the other escape rooms, New Mexico Escape Room is an amazing location with Hollywood-level theming and very creative puzzles. Team Brewhaha hopes to experience the other escape rooms at this and other locations throughout the Albuquerque area and throughout New Mexico.

We highly recommend New Mexico Escape Room to anyone who wants to escape the real world for a hour or less and get lost in a fully themed experience
