Summary

Six Flags Fiesta Texas brings thrills by day and chills by night with their annual Fright Fest Event. This year marks the 30th anniversary and it’s clear they’ve taken extra care developing this year’s frightful festivities. As the fog rolls in, their Halloween decorations cast sinister shadows throughout the paths that lead you to each haunt. Scare zones and houses are home to all manner of monsters. We saw creatures and characters from all spectrums of horror: modern to classic, undead to wishing-they-were-dead, slashy to spectral, and so many more! We visited Gideon Meat Plant in Saw: Legacy of Terror,… Read More…

Guest Experience8.07

If we had to sum up the guest experience at Six Flags Fiesta Texas in one word, it would be clarity. On our visit, the park was packed with signs that made each haunt location clear, provided physical maps to help folks navigate, and all queue lines were clearly marked and differentiated from the crowded areas. Every staff member we interacted with or saw helping others knew so much about the event and where to direct guests. Some staff were more enthusiastic and friendly than others, but the folks we saw all maintained a strong level of professionalism. The approach… Read More…

Immersion8.01

Facades were hit or miss in terms of immersing us in the world of each haunt. Luckily, the immersion kicked into high gear once inside the haunts and the exits were thoughtfully placed to transition guests into scare zones. The Conjuring and Cinema slasher’s immersion factor for the facade was limited by the buildings they were in. It was odd to go from the Wild West into the Conjuring Universe, and a movie theater within a high school didn’t land at the start. Twisted was a simple “sign on a building,” and Hexenhaus had some extra theming around the sign… Read More…

Special Effects8.36

By and large, Six Flags Fiesta Texas makes great use of their budget in the special effects department. We appreciated the thoughtful lighting approach, which was consistent throughout the haunts. Their scenic design was mostly detailed and stacked with creative props, details, and dead bodies ripped to shreds. There were, of course, a few exceptions here. Static “victim” props in Saw were very clearly dummies and looked mass-produced. In Cinema Slasher, we did notice a few animatronics and props that had been used to have much greater effect on scares in past years we’ve attended. The scenery was also sparser… Read More…

Characters8.22

One thing we appreciated about Six Flags Fiesta Texas is their scare actor coverage – that’s from both a quantity and a quality standpoint! When we walked through, we never felt like there was a blank space where a scare actor ought to be. Though Hexenhaus was made up primarily of witches and a few victims, we applauded the unique characterization of each witch during our walkthrough. They cursed folks, threatened a variety of methods to cook us up for dinner, and even had unique cackles. These folks sold the story perfectly. Our biggest gripe about Saw: Legacy of Terror… Read More…

Scare Factor7.9

Haunts with large crowds often suffer from scare predictability since they need to be able to repeat scares as often as possible. We’re happy to report that we did not experience that during our visit! We were attacked from all angles in every haunt, with a strong mix of distractions and dread-inducing walks towards the scare you think will be coming from a scare actor ahead of you. Luckily for us, we often got hit with a surprise scare on the way towards that scare actor. Across the board, it really felt like the actors were giving it their all… Read More…

Value5.42

By the time we left the park, we were happily exhausted. There was so much to do that we felt like we barely scratched the surface. The park closed at 10 PM, and we did wish that it was open longer just so we could have chilled in Scare Zones or snagged some night rides. We had a very full night and felt like there was so much to see and do. We skipped “The Awakening,” their version of an opening scare-emony, and headed straight to the haunts when they opened at 6 PM. We were actually able to knock… Read More…
