Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

Located in the former Rainsville Quality Meats building, PV Slaughterhouse carries on the legacy of blood with a partially indoor, partially outdoor haunt experience. With an optional touch/blood pass and several specialty nights throughout the season, guests can customize their visit for an experience that may leave them screaming and possibly dripping with blood.

Guest Experience9.52

PV Slaughterhouse was easy enough to find using the address, although the lack of clearly visible signage made it a little less obvious that we’d arrived at the right place. Free parking is available in a small on-site lot, with additional spaces along the street median. Tickets are $25 and must be purchased with cash, though an ATM is available out front. The ticket booth is incorporated into the queue line, where two roaming actors are kept busy entertaining the waiting crowd. Guests can also upgrade their admission with a touch/blood pass for $5 more, but be aware that blood… Read More…

Immersion9.02

PV Slaughterhouse makes use of an actual old slaughterhouse, giving the attraction a fitting foundation for its blood-soaked atmosphere. The experience is split roughly evenly between the building itself and an outdoor section known as Gut Pond Trail. Inside the slaughterhouse, guests encounter a wide variety of scenes, including blacklight clown areas, blood-covered slaughterhouse rooms, a video store, and doll-themed environments. While the variety kept things interesting, the order in which these different themes appeared felt a little unexpected, making the overall progression somewhat difficult to follow. The middle section of the building takes guests through a tight maze of… Read More…

Special Effects8.78

The special effects at PV Slaughterhouse were most effective in their use of lighting and atmosphere. Inside the building, a single ambient audio track played throughout, providing an appropriate backdrop for the various scenes. Along the Gut Pond Trail, there was no obvious soundtrack, but the wind on the night of our visit helped create a naturally eerie atmosphere. Lighting was good both indoors and outdoors, illuminating the trail and its scenes while making it easy to navigate the numerous elevation changes and staircases along the route. Inside, the blacklight effects in the clown scenes were a nice touch, while… Read More…

Characters8.52

There were plenty of actors to be found inside PV Slaughterhouse, although the Gut Pond Trail could have benefited from a few additional performers. All the characters interacted with us to varying degrees, helping keep the experience engaging throughout. One particularly memorable character approached while bent backward in a position that had all of us cringing and feeling like we needed a visit to the chiropractor! The attendant in the video store scene was especially chatty, making us feel like we could have stayed a while and watched a movie with him. Other actors took advantage of unexpected entry points,… Read More…

Scare Factor8.51

The scares at PV Slaughterhouse took a little while to get going, as the actors in the first few rooms tended to wait for us to enter before engaging with us rather than attempting more immediate startle scares. As we progressed, the scares remained a bit hit or miss, with many leaning on the attraction’s abundant blood and gore for more of a gross-out reaction than a traditional fright. Along Gut Pond Trail, every scene featured at least one actor attempting to deliver a scare, helping maintain the momentum outdoors. However, a few additional performers along the trail could help… Read More…

Value8.73

With a 27-minute walkthrough and a general admission ticket price of $25, PV Slaughterhouse delivers an MPD (minutes per dollar) ratio of 1.08, making it a great value compared to many of the haunts we visit. The experience extends beyond the walkthrough itself, with queues of actors entertaining guests while they wait, a photo opportunity in the gift shop, and a fire pit where visitors can warm up on a chilly autumn night. These extra touches help round out the evening and give guests a few more reasons to linger before or after their trip through the slaughterhouse.
