Summary

Scream Acres in Bishopville, South Carolina, delivers a high-energy night of Halloween entertainment that makes it easy to see why this longtime local favorite keeps bringing people back. The compact haunted house is packed with detailed scenes, creative effects, and monsters who know how to turn every corner into an opportunity for a scare. Then the experience heads into the deep woods, where a lengthy hayride takes guests through a parade of clowns, maniacs, cannibals, and other creatures who seem delighted to make the entire trailer scream. From real flames and chainsaws to memorable character performances and some wonderfully old-school… Read More…

Guest Experience9.65

Scream Acres is a local favorite and has been running for many years. Directions are on the website, but there is also ample signage, and they have it all lit up for you to find. The ticket booth is right up front, and the parking lot is large and orderly. The staff here are always wonderful. They have people in haunt shirts everywhere in case you have a question or a concern, and they’ve put a lot of work into creating a terrifying experience that is very safe. Come hungry; there is a wonderful Mexican food truck with churros and… Read More…

Immersion8.94

Scream Acres is set in the deep woods of Bishopville, South Carolina. The house is decorated from the entrance gate to the exit, creating a looming, dread-inspiring façade of a haunted house. Once inside the house, there is little sound bleed, and lighting and details in sets create strong worlds. Even as you exit the house, they’ve created a scene to transition you into the midway, and from there you are off to the deep woods. The house utilizes those deep woods to create a feeling of isolation, and by the time you reach the second stop, you can’t figure… Read More…

Special Effects9.01

Pyrotechnics, sounds, lights flickering, and lasers spinning. Scream Acres is a sensory wonderland. There were two standout hallways: one in the old vortex tunnel in the house, and one that took you through Hell in the trail houses, and both were packed from floor to ceiling with spooky, fascinating details. The chainsaws are real, and real flames leap up from the ground as you are carted through Hell on the hayride. There are immersive scents in some scenes, like the ghost of a carnival for the clown area, and the dirt of the deep earth in a mine scene. There… Read More…

Characters8.94

We saw monsters across the spectrum while we were there. Several members of the house, butchers, a pig man, and a sad young woman with a super healthy babydoll all utilized their sets and props to really deliver scares and tension. With the hayride, we want to first say we were clapping like loons when the gymnast clown started up. Freddy Krueger terrorized us from all angles, a sharply dressed maniac wielded a chainsaw with extreme glee, and Jason’s entrance was shockingly intimidating. In the houses on the trail, there was a line of caged lunatic children, and each one… Read More…

The house was non-stop on the screams, and the monsters were all super high-energy. There is every type of scare inside, from loomers to jump scares, animatronics and old-school tricks. The group behind us were terrified, rushing out and clinging to each other. All sorts of monsters came out to play, but there was a Pig Man that gave one of our team a scare, and a room of butchers used distraction to get another one of our team. The hayride was spectacular. We saw a trick that Freddy Krueger did that was so brilliant we started cheering immediately. Clowns,… Read More…

Value9.89

The general admission is $30 and the Fast Pass is $45. You can also spend that $10 for a light-up necklace that marks you as a target for every monster in the house and on the hayride. A group of young people to our right started “discreetly” turning their necklaces off as the ride continued, because they deliver on the promise to go after you. The house is smaller, but packed to the brim with scenes and monsters, and the hayride is long and high energy. We recommend that fast pass, this is a local favorite, and it stays packed.… Read More…
