Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

Tucked away on Bay City’s back roads, a terrifying place hides in the shadows. Slaughterhouse Bay City celebrates its eighth year of terror this 2026 season. This haunt takes us back to when we started in the haunt industry, with a small-town traditional feel, but with big-time scares! This haunt is owned and operated by a local high school art teacher, so most of the scare actors are local high school students who are just being introduced to the haunt industry. This makes us so happy because, as we said earlier, that’s exactly how we started in this business: earning… Read More…

Guest Experience7.9

On Slaughterhouse’s website, you can find all the haunt information, including dates, times, ticket pricing, and location. Our GPS got us there easily, and when we arrived, the driveways were easy to see because they were marked with bright lights. Once on site, the lights were on the dim side, but it was easy to maneuver because the property was flat and clear of trip hazards. While in line, many queue actors kept us company, and we even got to enjoy a horror movie projected on the side of the haunt! The staff and crew at Slaughterhouse were absolutely amazing… Read More…

Immersion6.88

Walking through the queue up to the main doors, you are met with various props and a projector playing a movie to get you in the spooky-season spirit. As you wait, the terrifying sounds and blood-curdling screams from within the walls of the slaughterhouse can be heard. Although the attraction didn’t have a clear theme, each room had its own story to tell. This walkthrough featured a mix of horror classics, along with animatronics and props that fit each room’s vibe. From old western saloons with a ghostly ghoul playing a piano to alien abductions, there is a theme for… Read More…

Special Effects7.9

Many things stood out in the attraction’s special effects, from lighting and sound to props and animatronics. In the halls that twist and turn through the slaughterhouse, each scene is strategically designed and decorated. The amount of animatronics and decor throughout was astonishing; as we mentioned earlier, it felt like we stepped into a real-life I Spy book, and no matter how many times you walked through, you could see something new every time. Although many animatronics were big-box brands, state-of-the-art animatronics from Distortions Unlimited and Poison Props are sprinkled throughout alongside some great hand-built special effects! Be sure to… Read More…

This haunt has the most actors per square foot that we’ve seen so far this year. Around every corner, someone lurks, ready for you. Creeping through the labyrinth, we met a Silent Hill nurse who scared the curse word right out of Sam. Their body was contorted in such a way that we thought they were just another prop, but as soon as we got too close, the nurse’s tortured movements began as if straight out of the movie, giving us only a split second to see how exceptional the costume and mask were as they scared us into the… Read More…

Scare Factor7.53

Distraction scares are definitely the Slaughterhouse’s expertise! With the number of props in Slaughterhouse Bay City, every room we encountered made us question what was real and what was just a prop, and the deeper we went, the more unsettled we felt. Add in the number of actors, and now where was safe? As we mentioned earlier, the Silent Hill nurse got Sam good, and in one of the trailers, an actor was bent over with his head in a woodchipper; he too looked like a prop and made Cody almost hit the ceiling. Another type of scare that we… Read More…

Value6.2

Our Slaughterhouse excursion lasted just 10 minutes, and with a ticket price of $20.00, that brings the MPD (Minutes Per Dollar) to an even .50. While this is below the 1 MPD we prefer to see, the amount of scenes, props, and actors makes it feel way longer than what the numbers show. If you make it out of the slaughterhouse alive, be sure to check out all the slaughterhouse swag in the souvenir shop, along with other spooky decor, accessories, and collectibles. While you wander the grounds of The Slaughterhouse, take advantage of plenty of photo opportunities. Unfortunately, the… Read More…
