This weekend we clocked into the Nightmare Factory Wabash, and boy are they producing! This is a multi-attraction haunt jammed to the gills with characters. Let’s take a closer look at some of the residents of the town of Ashwix.
First, we had a stay at the Ashwix Inn. We met the Keeper, the man who runs the Inn. This man looked like a comic villain and not a monster, which is a nice subversion of the usual monsters and ghouls you get in most haunts. There is very little dead space throughout this haunt, and the costuming on the variety of characters in here looked really good. The characters do a great job of using physical scares. At one point, a gymnast blocks your path with some impressive floor work, and sticks the landing effortlessly, only to wordlessly intimidate us. Costumes are well crafted and look great. The Keeper’s mask is a highlight here, looking very unique.
Next we make our way to the Happy Place. The characters here, spoiler alert and all, and the other attractions look great! The Happy Place is filled with asylum escapees, but all of them looked and acted very unique. We would’ve liked to see more actors in this haunt at some points. The actors do a great job, however, of ensuring that they scare the whole group. At one point, one actress had our entire group mixed up in a maze of doors and somehow managed to keep scaring all of us despite us all being so close together. So much for strength in numbers! They did a great mix of physical and verbal interactions. Most of the lines were fresh and unique and did not fall back on clichés.
We then moved to take a tour of Unit 713. The characters here are a mix of victimized patients and sadistic nurses. Again, we were treated to a really cool display of gymnastics at the door; she was able to flip upside down and terrified us all by crawling towards us like a demented, possessed person. We even got to be face-to-face with Dr.Vex, before he got attacked by another patient. Turns out experiments don’t like failing! All the costuming and make-up were well done, including a really awesome mask on a straitjacketed victim.
Finally, we made our way to the Harrow House and Sinister Stables. This home is filled with a twisted family. And boy, is it large! There is almost no dead space in this haunt. Around every corner was another twisted family member, but all of them looked unique with well-done makeup and characterization. Within these walls lurk the Silent One and Benny. Both of these individuals possess amazingly detailed masks that look incredible. Not to be outdone in the acrobatics we saw in some of the other haunts that night, a literal flying bull came at us! How he managed to hurl himself through the air at such speed we’ll never know, but we do one of our group members went screaming to try and escape, only to be caught by a wall.
The midway in this attraction is a massive midway. While you are vibing, considering your option on what amenity to take advantage of, there are plenty of spooky individuals wandering around to keep you on edge. All of these actors look great. They also interact more with people in a more leisurely setting and have their characterization down, as they are improvising more with the guests. Chaos and Havoc, and their friends in the midway, were especially entertaining. Some of them even make an appearance throughout the haunt, so keep an eye out for that when you’re going through!
Pay a visit to the town of Ashwix and get to know the local populace! You’re gonna have a Hell of a time!
