Once your foot hits the grass of that fog-filled field, it’s like you’ve been ripped from your reality and thrown into theirs. It almost feels like you’ve been taken off an old country road in Texas and dropped straight into their madness.
When the “dinner” bell echoed across the field, it was our turn to go in. We’d already been loaded into livestock chutes and met a few of the “family.” After Mama marked most of us with her kisses, it was obvious we were in for much more.
As we stood in front of the home of the Blacks, we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere and helpless. The flickering porch light and the fire were the only light we had. Maybe it was good we were somewhat hidden in the darkness.
The immersion deepened as we wove through dilapidated shacks and fences that clearly hadn’t been cared for in a long time. Along the way, we met various members of the Black family, each one more insane than the last.
Once inside Black Orchard Meats, the smell of rotting meat and death filled the air. Mama warned us about the feral children, but we had no idea what to expect. Suddenly they were everywhere! It was like they were prepping us for the elders. Although there was no way to prep us for what was coming.
In the meat processing area, we encountered a crazy member of the family who shoved one of us in a freezer. Little did I know the freezer was safer than the outside! From nowhere, a crazed chainsaw lunatic dropped from the rafters to attack our group. Yes, I said dropped from the rafters! All of this made us forget we were even in a haunted attraction. The only time the immersion faded just a bit was in some of the transition areas where there were fewer details, such as the area with spinning saws above our heads.
One after another, we were attacked by an army of the Black family armed with chainsaws, or being prepped by members of the family for processing. We felt like we were truly in a horror movie. Somewhere in the middle of nowhere, at a dusty, dark, and horror-filled barn. Even when we escaped, the scent of death rolled across the field where it sits. The fog surrounding it was thick, and the screams and rip of the chainsaw echoed.
