Summary

One weekend every October, Dearborn Parks and Recreation transforms Ford Field Park into a spooky haunted trail suitable for the whole family. This year, we made it down for its fifth season and checked out this spooktacular event! This event offers two levels of scares: a normal haunt open to all ages from 7 pm to 9:30 pm, then a more intense scare opportunity from 10 pm to 11 pm. This special 18+ Witching Hour brings more intense scares for those who seek them. We did! Each year they change the trail theme, and this year it was Creatures Of… Read More…

We found that we really needed to search for some of the information since this was our first time visiting this attraction. When we set our GPS to the address, it got us there with no problem; however, it seemed to take us to the back side of the park, where there was no parking and minimal signage. We drove around confused for a bit, and we ended up parking in a residential area and walked to the attraction. We didn’t discover the parking directions until later, on the Dearborn Parks and Recreation Facebook page, not on the website. Once… Read More…

The atmosphere leading up to the haunt had fun fall vibes, with sweet treats, bonfires, and spooky music. The archway leading to the queue line towered over visitors, and the sounds of screams and chainsaws filled the night air. Because this haunted trail is part of Ford Field Park in the heart of Dearborn, it’s hard to stay fully immersed at times. In some spots, the trees thinned, and views of city buildings, lights, and the parking area peeked through. This attraction is restricted to only one path in the park, so to extend the experience, they split the path… Read More…

Special Effects6.95

What stood out most to us was the trail lighting. It was perfectly executed and highlighted the forest, creating a creepy and beautiful atmosphere. Mix in the fog that seemed to lie just right, and it created an unsettling experience that fit the theme wonderfully! The scenes were impressive for how little time they had to run. The log cabin looked like it had been there for years, and the cemetery sent chills down our spines. The Bigfoot scene made us feel like we had stumbled upon a camping trip gone wrong, with no body around even though the campfire… Read More…

We love a good cryptid, so this walkthrough beautifully represented all our favorites. With creatures from all states like Mothman and The Rake, to Michigan cryptids like Detroit’s very own Nain Rouge, it was a perfect outdoor theme choice. We appreciated how much special effects makeup they used instead of masks. As for masks, there were only a few; the Sasquatch’s menacing expression left us in awe, and the full getup made for a complete experience. Giant feet and all! The Wendigo wore a massive deer-skull mask with glowing red eyes that would send shivers down anyone’s spine. Don’t get… Read More…

We chose to visit during the witching hour for the most intense scares, but unfortunately, even then, we felt older children and younger teens could visit during this time. We can honestly say it wasn’t the actors’ fault; they tried their damnest to deliver those scares, but the location, the attraction’s setup, and how it controlled groups kept the overall scare factor from reaching its potential. The location has a lot of open areas where the scare actors could be seen waiting to pounce on their next victim. The trail is also very wide, which is great for bigger groups,… Read More…

Our Expedition into the Unknown lasted just 8 minutes, and with a general admission cost of $15.00 at the door, that brings the MPD (Minutes Per Dollar) to .53, well below where we like to see it. However! If you purchase them ahead of time from the Dearborn Parks and Recreation website, they are only $10.00, bringing the MPD to .80. We mean it when we say this event is family-friendly; in just three days, it offers spooky fun for all ages, from the normal haunt to the witching hour. But what made us happiest was the free, sensory-friendly trick-or-treat… Read More…
