Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

Dread Hollow has been a fright destination in Chattanooga for nine years, operating out of the Browns Ferry Village shopping center. Throughout the season, the haunt offers several special discount nights, including College Night, Girls’ Night Out, and Date Night, giving guests different opportunities to enjoy the experience. The season wraps up with a special blackout night, offering a unique twist on the haunt for those looking for an extra challenge. In addition to the haunted attraction, Dread Hollow also features three horror-themed escape rooms that can be booked separately from your haunt ticket. If you’re hoping to include an… Read More…

Guest Experience9.3

Dread Hollow was easy to locate on the north end of Chattanooga, and a roadside sign would be a nice added touch to help guests spot the entrance. The staff were very friendly and informative, helping create a welcoming experience from the moment we arrived. Multiple queue line actors were on hand to entertain guests, with most of them concentrated in the indoor waiting area and only making brief appearances outside. We later learned that this is a limitation imposed by the landlord rather than a decision made by the haunt. Because of its strip mall location, Dread Hollow doesn’t… Read More…

Immersion8.38

The immersion at Dread Hollow begins shortly after clearing the check-in and photo areas, with the queue itself serving as the first themed environment. Designed to resemble a small town, the queue leads guests past several shops featuring detailed signage and window displays, creating a surprisingly developed setting before the haunt even begins. Queue actors emerged from various spots throughout the area, often walking alongside guests and interacting with them along the way. Dread Hollow updated its storyline this year, and the first third of the haunt leaned heavily into the new story, featuring a series of detailed laboratory scenes.… Read More…

Special Effects8.86

Dread Hollow employed several strong special effects throughout the haunt, with many of the best examples appearing in the laboratory scenes near the beginning. Lighting was particularly well done in these areas, although some of the later scenes, especially within the military-themed sections, were dark and could have benefited from additional or upgraded lighting. Before entering the haunt, multiple signs warned us that we would get wet—and they more than delivered on that promise. Water effects were incorporated into several scenes and used by multiple actors, including one large area outfitted with water misters that added an unexpected sensory element.… Read More…

Characters8.07

The characters at Dread Hollow had some standout moments during our visit, although the quality and consistency of the performances varied throughout the haunt. The queue actors were energetic and engaging, doing a great job interacting with guests before they entered the haunt. Inside, the actors in the laboratory scenes delivered some good scares and often continued interacting with us as we moved into the next scene, helping create a sense of continuity. The military-themed sections were less consistent, with many of the actors difficult to see in the darkness and most delivering slight variations of the same basic lines,… Read More…

Scare Factor8.24

At Dread Hollow was somewhat varied, with many of the scares relying on familiar techniques such as yelling, grunts, and growling, while some characters tried to be more creative and interactive with their scenes. Several performers made a point of addressing everyone in our group, even when that meant repeating the same line to reach each person, which helped ensure that no one was completely overlooked. A few animatronics were also used to fill the gaps between actor encounters and provide additional opportunities for surprise. The finale offered a different take on the familiar chainsaw ending, followed by a fun… Read More…

Value7.68

Our walkthrough at Dread Hollow lasted 18.5 minutes, and with general admission priced at $25, that works out to an MPD (minutes per dollar) of 0.74. This ratio is in line with many of the haunts we visit (but below the average the site sees) and provides a reasonable amount of time inside the attraction. The experience also extends beyond the main walkthrough, as guests are welcome to take their time exploring the themed Main Street queue area, where you’ll encounter two or three characters and additional scares along the way. The area also provides plenty of opportunities for photos,… Read More…
