What They Liked Most:
First, I need to disclose that I have been going to this haunted house with my wife every year for 16 straight years. Markoff’s has evolved over the y... ears, and at this point is at a level that it is one of the top haunted houses in the country. I dont say this lightly as I travel the country every October going to nationally ranked haunted houses. The only competition for Markoff’s this year is 13th Gate in Baton Rouge which I went to last weekend. The specs this year was .68 miles of trail, 28:11 time in attraction, and 67 scare actors. These are all very solid numbers, but they dont convey the fit and finish of this attraction.
There are elaborate sets to include a freak show, bayou house, medieval castle and town, chapel with basement crypt, graveyard, alien UFO, Woodpile camp with chainsaws, witches camp, viking camp and ship, dragon graveyard, frankensteins monster house, and junkyard rave scene.
The sets are as diverse as they are detailed. The set dressing, painting, sculpting, and props are movie-level quality. The soundscape is equally impressive, conveying atmosphere without being overbearing or washing out the actors.
The midway village outside The Trail and The Town, is amongst the best you can find. There are many food and drink options, taco stand, a bar, games, smores area, bonfires and music. All the buildings are built to look like a spooky, ancient village and are incredibly atmospheric.
I didnt do The Town this year, but do most years, it is equally as impressive in set design and tends to have excellent actors with scripted/spoken interactionRead More
Suggested Improvements:
Markoff’s suffers from its own success and this manifests in pacing. Regardless of how you enter the attraction, you are going to run into the group i... n front of you and be run up on by the group behind you. At many points in the haunt, you form a conga line down the trail. The result is you either see the jump scares before you arrive or they miss you all together.
Despite the quantity of actors, the quality of actors on the Trail specifically tends to suffer. There are a lot of teens and younger actors that have not yet developed a good presence of character or timing for jump scares. The attraction would benefit from either better training or maybe more, older actors with greater haunt experience.Read More

This forest is unlike any other scary attraction. It is the most terrifying Halloween event that I willingly go to year after year. You will not be di... sappointed. There are always scary characters walking around even when you're not in the forest. There are huge bonfires to keep warm and side games you can play while you wait until your number is called to venture into the woods. If you live in Virginia keep in mind that they Ferry to cross from MD to VA closes at 11pm!Read More
