Because it was raining during our visit, we made a beeline to be the very first group through the door, which likely contributed to a few dead spaces where actors had not yet fully filtered into position. A handful of transitional zones could have used an extra lurker or two to keep the suspense constant. However, the performers we did encounter demonstrated exceptional variety in their scare styles, delivering everything from sudden startles to unnerving banter and proving that Lake Hickory continues to cultivate strong acting talent across its scenes.
The costuming and makeup department at Lake Hickory Haunts continues to set a remarkably high standard. Nearly 98% of the cast looked completely authentic, outfitted in detailed, multi-layered garments tailored specifically to their respective themed zones. The masks in particular were exceptional and original, high-grade pieces that completely avoided the off-the-shelf, generic look seen at some other attractions.
The makeup application was intricate and creative, with excellent blending that brought the undead, mutated creatures, and psychopaths to life seamlessly. We noticed only one minor instance where an actor’s eye/face makeup seemed incomplete and another character whose wardrobe felt slightly out of sync with the room’s motif, but these were rare exceptions in an otherwise phenomenal lineup. Out in the queue line and midway, the roaming characters were just as polished and terrifying, commanding attention and posing for photos without ever breaking the illusion.
