Summary

The Dark Side Haunted Adventure in Ixonia, Wisconsin, offers much more than your typical haunted house. Located on a working farm, this scream park takes guests through six themed attractions featuring a haunted mine, hayride, wooded trails, mazes, and a twisted nursery. With bonfires, music, photo opportunities, zombie paintball, and escape rooms, there is plenty to experience beyond the haunts themselves. Returning to The Dark Side Haunted Adventure, or TDSHA for short, our team was excited to see the continued improvements made throughout the years. The atmosphere is one of its biggest strengths, offering a fun, adventurous experience that can… Read More…

Guest Experience8.36

Finding TDSHA was a breeze, with convenient parking and an updated website that makes planning your visit easy. Once on the grounds, guests are welcomed into a lively farm atmosphere featuring bonfires, music, a light show, concessions, and several photo opportunities. The midway provides a great place to hang out before or after experiencing the haunts. Staff interactions were generally positive, with several individuals showing genuine enthusiasm for the attraction. Amanda, working at the Zombie Expedition paintball experience, was particularly friendly and welcoming. While some staff members seemed less enthusiastic than others, the property still felt passionate overall. Ticketing and… Read More…

Immersion7.86

The immersion at TDSHA varied between attractions, with some environments delivering exceptional detail and storytelling while others felt noticeably more sparse. The Descent was easily one of the strongest experiences of the evening. From the introduction by an enthusiastic cast member to the perfectly timed elevator audio and mining effects, the entire sequence worked together to create a convincing underground adventure. The detailed caverns, animatronics, and collapsing walls of the cave helped bring the environment to life. Foxglove Nursery was another standout, featuring creative scenery, detailed plant-themed environments, and an atmosphere that made the setting feel complete. The haunted hayride… Read More…

Special Effects6.6

TDSHA featured a mixture of practical effects, animatronics, and sensory elements, although their use was inconsistent throughout the six attractions. The Descent showcased some of the strongest effects, including detailed mining environments, a collapsing cave wall, large creature props, and animatronics that added life to the scenes. The haunted hayride’s massive vortex tunnel was another memorable highlight, creating a disorienting visual experience while traveling through the attraction. Other notable effects included inflatable passageways, shifting and squishy flooring, hanging obstacles, and a well-executed fog and lighting room near the end of the maze. Foxglove Nursery also made effective use of its… Read More…

Characters6.47

The cast at TDSHA was a mixed bag this year. While several actors delivered memorable performances and demonstrated genuine enthusiasm, others lacked the energy, creativity, or character development needed to fully bring their scenes to life. The introductory cast member at The Descent was a particular highlight, using strong delivery and well-timed interactions to establish the mine’s storyline. The actress introducing Backwoods Revenge also did a great job setting the tone. Throughout the remaining attractions, performances varied considerably. Some actors effectively used their surroundings, including one who came sliding down from above to surprise guests. Others relied primarily on staring,… Read More…

Scare Factor6.22

TDSHA leans more toward an entertaining haunted adventure than an intensely terrifying experience. While there were several effective jump scares throughout the evening, the overall scare intensity was relatively moderate compared to some of the more aggressive haunts we have experienced. There were a handful of memorable surprises, including an effective scare near the junkyard scene, actors approaching from unexpected angles, and performers climbing onto the haunted hayride. Some of these moments caught our group off guard and demonstrated how effectively the environments could be used to create scares. However, many encounters relied on predictable approaches, particularly throughout the outdoor… Read More…

Value8.95

TDSHA delivers solid value for guests looking for more than a quick haunted house walkthrough. At $35 for general admission, guests receive access to six themed attractions that took our group approximately 51 minutes to complete. That works out to a 1.46 minute per dollar rating, which is an excellent amount of haunt time for the price. Beyond the main attractions, the property offers plenty of opportunities to extend your evening. Guests can enjoy the Monster Midway, bonfires, photo opportunities, concessions, and additional activities such as escape rooms and Zombie Expedition paintball for an extra cost. The paintball experience was… Read More…

If you’re looking for some good scares, I wouldn’t recommend this haunt. Appears to be more kid friendly, at a high dollar point. Limited actors, had ... Read More
