Summary

Trepidations Haunted Attraction first opened its doors in 2020, and this was our first time visiting! The attraction offers two experiences: Rosewood Asylum and a two-part haunt that takes guests through Concord Manor and the Johnson Meats Slaughterhouse. Both immersive attractions are housed inside a 20,000-square-foot freezer plant in Exeter, Missouri, making for a unique setting that immediately sets Trepidations apart.

Guest Experience9.55

We were eager to experience this new haunt, so we arrived right as Trepidations Haunted Attraction opened for the evening. As it turned out, we appeared to be the first guests there! Despite having only two visitors to entertain, the actors outside immediately jumped into character and gave us the same enthusiastic performance they would have delivered to a full crowd. In fact, the actors outnumbered us by quite a bit! Their energy and obvious passion for what they do were infectious, and it was exciting to see a haunt crew so invested in creating an experience for their guests.… Read More…

Immersion9.25

This may have been the first time we’ve visited a haunt and genuinely felt transported to another place. Usually, there’s always a little voice in the back of your mind reminding you that you’re walking through a haunted attraction, but Trepidations Haunted Attraction managed to make that feeling disappear. For nearly half an hour, we were completely immersed in the world around us. The actors and scenery worked together to bring multiple stories to life, making each scene feel like part of a larger experience rather than a series of disconnected scares. We were captivated from beginning to end and… Read More…

Special Effects8.96

It’s easy to overlook details like lighting and sound when there’s so much happening inside a haunt, but Trepidations Haunted Attraction used both in ways that really stood out to us. The lighting drew our attention to specific areas and characters while giving the spaces a claustrophobic feel that added to the immersion. Slow strobes and specifically lit areas both drew our attention and helped build tension while highlighting key details within each scene. The music was equally well thought out, going beyond the same familiar songs we’ve heard in countless other haunts. Rather than simply filling the silence or… Read More…

You’re going to have a hard time finding better characters at another haunt. Not only were Punky, Dr. Cain, and the rest of the crew some of the best characters we’ve ever encountered, but Trepidations Haunted Attraction did something with them that you don’t experience at every haunt: we got to know them through multiple encounters throughout the attraction! We didn’t just cross paths with them in their designated sections. We were brought back into their spaces, and they even left those spaces to find us in other areas. We got to see their stories play out as we made… Read More…

Scare Factor8.78

Trepidations Haunted Attraction took a different approach to scares, relying on distraction and misdirection rather than the usual jump scares and loud noises. And let me tell you, it WORKED! In one scene, we were distracted by the clatter of pots and pans while actors snuck up behind us, catching us completely off guard. In another, I was busy reading a spooky message written on the wall when it suddenly dropped away, revealing an actor just inches from my face. Needless to say, I jumped! What impressed us most was how well the actors played off our attention, using what… Read More…
