Looking for haunted attractions to add to your Texas Halloween plans? We’ve put together 10 Must-See Haunted Attractions in Virginia for 2026 to help you discover some places we think haunt fans should have on their radar this season.
Our Must-See selections may include attractions we’ve reviewed, visited, or filmed, along with other haunts that stand out for what they offer, their popularity among haunt fans, or other reasons we think they’re worth checking out.
This is not a ranking or a “10 best” list, and these certainly aren’t the only haunts in Virginia worth visiting. Think of this as a starting point for building your haunt list. Plenty more attractions across Virginia are waiting to be discovered! This list is in no particular order.
So, where will you scream first?
Fear Forest – Harrisonburg, Virginia
Fear Forest VA in Harrisonburg turns a rural property into a full Halloween destination with three distinctly different haunted attractions: Fear Forest, Fear Crops, and Fear Factory. Guests begin with a courtesy wagon ride from the parking area before reaching the heart of the event, where the attractions surround a lively gathering area filled with characters, food, music, photo ops, and a bonfire.
The original Fear Forest stretches approximately four-tenths of a mile through the woods, while Fear Crops takes the scares into the fields and Fear Factory moves guests into a more confined experience. During our 2025 visit, the combination of strong actors, elaborate scenery, large props, effective animatronics, and well-timed scares earned Fear Forest a 9.67/10, the highest Virginia score from The Scare Factor that season!

Know Before You Go: Tickets include admission to all three haunts and are CASH ONLY and sold at the on-site booth, an ATM is available, the attraction is primarily outdoors, concessions and merchandise are available, and sturdy shoes are strongly recommended. Weather can affect operations.

Red Vein Haunted House – Ashland, Virginia
RED VEIN Haunted House in Ashland builds its entire experience around the cursed Blood Root and the mythology surrounding the demon Redvyn, allowing four attractions to tell different pieces of the same larger story. For 2026, RED VEIN presents Cursed Beneath, taking guests through the Factory, Corn, Woods, and House as the corruption spreading beneath Hanover Vegetable Farm becomes increasingly difficult to contain.
Each area has its own personality. The Factory uses claustrophobic indoor corridors and industrial environments, Rabbit’s Cry Field fills the corn with monsters and the Eclipse Cult, the Woods feature large outdoor structures including a mining town and Puritan village, and Providence contains more than 40 detailed indoor scenes. RED VEIN earned a 9.58/10 from our team in 2025!
Opening night: September 26th
Know Before You Go: Timed tickets are used for General Admission. Fast Pass and limited VIP options are available, groups are limited to six inside the attractions, parking is free, only small bags are permitted, and the experience includes indoor and outdoor sections with potentially wet or physically demanding conditions. Hexed Haunted Attraction – Elliston, Virginia
Hexed Haunted Attraction in Elliston takes guests onto a dark Southwest Virginia farm where six attractions are included with one admission. Current experiences include Scarecrow’s Harvest, The Witch House, Manner’s Meats, 1984: All Hallow’s Eve, Hexed Penitentiary, and Freakshow, giving visitors a mix of barns, farm environments, detailed sets, animatronics, special effects, and intense actor-driven scares.
Our 2025 team spent roughly 35 minutes inside and gave Hexed an 8.86/10, noting its high-energy scares, immersive environments, and strong use of effects throughout the property. 2026 marks Hexed’s 15th season.
Opening night: October 2nd
Know Before You Go: Parking is $10 CASH ONLY, the farm can be muddy so dress appropriately, and the experience can include gore, intense effects, and foul language. They do offer kid-friendly necklaces for a lower-scare experience.

Frightmare – Chesapeake, Virginia
Frightmare in Chesapeake is a fiercely intense indoor haunt built around graphic scenes, relentless actors, tight environments, and a willingness to push guests considerably harder than many traditional haunted houses. The attraction changes heavily from year to year, which has become one of the biggest reasons returning fans keep coming back.
When our team reviewed Frightmare in 2024, they chose the extreme experience and were grabbed, restrained, dragged, taped, locked into confined spaces, and forced to crawl. That visit earned Frightmare a 9.49/10 during that visit!
Opening night: September 11th
Know Before You Go: All-indoor attraction, online tickets are encouraged, 18 and under require adult supervision, extreme full-contact upgrade is an additional $5, no open-toed shoes or sandals, they aim to be a scary experience.
Terror Manor – Roanoke, Virginia
Terror Manor in Roanoke packs more than 40 rooms into one sprawling nightmare filled with original characters, large props, animatronics, detailed scenery, sensory effects, and a huge cast determined to keep guests under pressure. Rather than relying on a single theme, the attraction continually shifts between wildly different environments as visitors move deeper into the building.
During our 2025 visit, the cast included more than 70 actors (who were some of the best we saw all year), and the improved sets, effects, and performances helped Terror Manor climb to a 9.47/10. 2026 marks its eighth season!
Opening night: September 18th
Know Before You Go: Indoor/outdoor experience, children under the age of 16 must have someone 18 or older on-site, you may be touched and you may get mildly wet. Buy your tickets online and save time!

Milltown Haunt – Lovettsville, Virginia
Milltown Haunt in Lovettsville has become a complete farm-based Halloween experience, with three haunted attractions included under one ticket. Guests move through a mixture of haunted barns, dark farm environments, mazes, and other nightmares before returning to a farm midway that gives visitors plenty of reasons to hang around between scares.
Milltown pairs its scares with a strong community focus, donating a portion of ticket proceeds to local nonprofit organizations. The midway features food trucks, fire pits, photo ops, merchandise, and drinks from One Family Brewing, making it another haunt that can fill an entire evening rather than a quick walkthrough.
Opening night: October 2nd
Know Before You Go: Midway-only admission is $5 (10 and under are free), food vendors and fire pits are available, closed-toe shoes required, the attraction is indoor/outdoor, and online tickets should be checked in at the ticket booth before entering. You will need to sign a waiver when you purchase your tickets.
Darkwood Manor Haunted House – Luray, Virginia
DarkWood Manor Haunted House in Luray is one of Virginia’s most story-driven attractions, creating an entirely new production every season rather than simply reopening the same haunted house. Characters, scenery, costumes, makeup, and the storyline all change together, making repeat visits a major part of the appeal!
For 2026, guests enter Mr. Hyve’s Midnight Masquerade, a surreal dreamworld populated by masked strangers and something increasingly dangerous trying to cross into our world. Admission also includes Doctor Brain’s 3D Mind Maze, giving guests two attractions for one ticket. In 2025, our review team scored Darkwood Manor a 9.02/10 with a high Scare Factor!

Know Before You Go: Two attractions are included with one ticket, timed ticketing is used, and DarkWood traditionally offers specialty events including No-Scare and Blackout experiences on select dates.

Total Terror Haunted Attraction – Powhatan, Virginia
Total Terror Haunted Attraction in Powhatan uses the quiet farmland surrounding the Powhatan County Fairgrounds to its advantage, blending outdoor darkness with folklore-driven horror and heavily interactive scenes. For 2026, guests can experience two different haunts: Exorcysm and Cornbred!
Are you ready to dive into the world of horror and suspense during their 15th year? Our team gave Total Terror an 8.94/10 last year!
Opening night: October 10th
Know Before You Go: Indoor/outdoor haunt, merchandise, no-touch haunt. Weather may affect outdoor portions of the event. Timed ticketing is used.

The Nefarious Haunt Experience – Gum Spring, Virginia
The Nefarious Haunt Experience at Grayhaven Winery in Gum Spring is an outdoor trail that makes visitors active participants rather than passive observers. The attraction moved to the winery in 2025, where a dark forest, interactive structures, and hands-on scenes created a much larger playground for the monsters waiting beyond the vineyard.
During our 2025 visit, the Blackroot Trail centered on woodsmen turned cannibals and an ancient entity lurking in the forest. Guests could find themselves pulled directly into scenes, making it a particularly good choice for visitors who want a more visceral, interactive outdoor haunt.
Opening night: October 2nd
Know Before You Go: You may be separated from your group, you may get bloody or wet, it’s an interactive haunt, you may be sacrificed (maybe), and it’s always dinner time.

Haunted Hunt Club Farm – Virginia Beach, Virginia
Haunted Hunt Club Farm Festival of Fear in Virginia Beach turns a 50-acre family farm into a full Halloween scream park with four haunted attractions, live entertainment, concessions, vendors, and plenty happening between the scares.
The current lineup includes the Haunted Hayride, Cemetery of Souls 1760 Death Alley, Forbidden Fields, and Village of the Dead. That mix gives guests a little of everything, from riding deep into the property and wandering through dark fields to moving through cemetery and village environments packed with actors and outdoor atmospheres.
Opening night: September 25th
Know Before You Go: Tickets available on-site or online, tickets include unlimited entry into all four haunted attractions, food and non-alcoholic beverages are welcome in the front field area, backpacks not allowed unless they are clear.
