Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

Our next stop for the 2026 season is Awaken Haunted Attraction in Leslie, Michigan. This season is Awaken’s eleventh year of fear, and they show no signs of slowing down! From the outside, Awaken seems harmless and small, but we were wrong! Inside, this massive 42,000 sq ft terror complex is filled with creatures, monsters, and everything that goes bump in the night across four hair-raising, heart-pumping attractions. The original self-titled haunt, Awaken, takes you through the halls of Meekerville Asylum, where you soon lose your mind and become lost in the chaotic passageways of Terror-Phobia 3D. The Forgotton is… Read More…

Guest Experience9.13

Awaken’s website has everything you need to plan your visit. Find dates and times, upcoming special events, and information on individual attractions. You can also buy tickets ahead of time to cut down on waiting times. Located on a twisty, turn road off Highway 127, the roadside sign is a little small, and the driveway sneaks up quickly, but GPS gets you there with no issues. Once on site, you know you’re in the right place, with huge signs showcasing the season’s special guests and a well-lit, paved parking lot. The entire staff was amazing, and we could tell they… Read More…

Immersion8.5

As you pull into the parking lot, our overall thought was “this doesn’t look like a haunted house,” but when you exit your vehicle, you hear small children giggling, playing games, and singing nursery rhymes over the sound system. Creepy Much…. As we mentioned in the guest experience, the main queue line throws you straight into Meekerville Asylum Institution for the Criminally Insane, and before you go inside, something special gets the blood pumping before the fun even starts. Although there isn’t a single underlying theme, each attraction has its own theme and little backstory. The asylum is just a… Read More…

Special Effects8.7

Right off the bat, you are transported into Meekerville Asylum, with the haunt queue line filled with asylum-themed signs, lighting, and patient-room doors lining the outer walls. Inside the asylum, instructional videos showed on a big screen as we waited to be checked in; the sounds of patients filled the halls, then the phone rang, letting the nurse know our appointment was next. The elevator is one of the better ones; we’ve experienced nothing scary, but it transitions perfectly into the basement. Across all four attractions, many effects stood out, but these were by far the most notable. In the… Read More…

Characters8.4

A plethora of creatures, monsters, and ghouls call Awaken home, and we encountered them all! The cast wore full costumes, some more elaborate than others, but all looked complete and on point. The cast had a good mix of masks and makeup, with makeup being the most prominent, and we appreciated that! Four very eager nurses in matching white uniforms welcomed you to the asylum. We appreciated each one’s individuality, with a special accessory setting them apart; each nurse had their own special twist that added to the creepy factor. While the creatures in The Forgotten are few and far… Read More…

Scare Factor7.95

Our visit led to many different scare tactics utilized within the labyrinth that is Awaken. We jumped as we got blasted by air cannons or the sudden slam of actor-filled drop windows and froze in the presence of the arachnids that now call the attic home. The uneasy walk through The Forgotten made us feel like hogs to the slaughter. We didn’t encounter anything in the beginning, and the feeling slowly diminished. We started to think it was just another pallet maze with nothing but strobes and sounds, and as soon as we felt safe, we didn’t hear the towering… Read More…

Value8.12

Our stroll through Awaken lasted 24 minutes, and with a general admission price of $30.00, that brings the MPD (Minutes Per Dollar) to .80. Don’t be fooled by the MPD; they cram a lot into those 24 minutes! In addition to General Admission, Awaken offers Fast Passes for $40.00 and discounted rates for larger groups. We also liked that if you purchased a ticket for the haunt before the Greg Nicotaro meet-and-greet, then the meet-and-greet was included with your tickets!  When you exit the haunt, you enter a “museum,” if you will, of special guests who have visited Awaken for… Read More…
