Jacksons Underworld Review (2026)

While researching their website, it was easy to navigate and find the times, dates, and instructions for the haunt. GPS got us there with ease; however, the driveway into the parking lot came up quickly. Once we pulled in, there was lots of room to park and take in those first breaths of spooky air. Unlike haunts around here, this one is completely indoors, which is nice for those sometimes-terrible Michigan nights. With the queue lines separated from the ticket lines, the music follows you and sets the mood. We visited early in the season, so the lines were short. The queue-line crew member mentioned they normally have queue actors to keep you on edge while you wait in the longer lines. One thing we enjoyed that is not normal nor appreciated enough in the haunt world is clean indoor bathrooms! As a multi-story haunt, there are stairs throughout, but they made sure these areas were well lit and as safe as possible for customers without killing the attraction’s mood.

As soon as you pull into the parking lot, you start to feel the weight of the towering brick building that is Jackson’s Underworld. The menacing building almost taunts you as you enter the waiting line; with lighting and thunder effects combined with the screams of past victims, you know exactly what is in store ahead. While there is not an overall theme, every inch of this place is designed to trick your senses and keep you engaged. One moment you are blinded walking through a room full of dense fog, led by an unknown creature that you never truly saw: next you are being jostled and thrown around on a rickety old bridge in one of the best swamp scenes we have seen.

From the time you step out of your vehicle, Jackson’s Underworld hits you with special effects. From lights that shine along with the lightning and thunder effects to monsters that lurk in windows or fire escape, and that is all before you even enter the haunt! Once inside, the Underworld utilizes effects throughout. We enjoyed the soundtrack throughout the haunt; Metal, Rock, and EDM filled the air until you entered a particularly themed room where it all faded away and the sounds that brought the scene to life took over. The lighting inside the haunt does a fantastic job setting the mood in each scene by adding depth and character. Attacking zombies, giant monsters, and creeping spiders, the multi-level haunt has plenty of animatronics scattered throughout with just the right amount to keep a good ratio with scare actors. One thing we did notice was that the older animatronics are showing their age.

Amongst the beautifully designed sets we have (Sam’s personal favorite) are the Characters. Most everyone we encountered was interactive in varying degrees. Certain actors were lurking in the shadows and had nothing to say, while others had full monologues, like the character they truly were. One look at the Mad Hatter standing upon the tea table was enough to drive anyone mad in Alice’s twisted psychedelic Wonderland, and who does not love to see some of your favorite Horror Movie icons? From Bloody Mary and Regan to Captain Spaulding and Art the Clown, they have them covered. But we are suckers for clowns, and by no means is there a shortage of them! Take a swirly twirly ride with a clown in her cage to disorient and confuse you right before she scoots you on to some more of her vibrant friends like BUBBLES!!! With her love of toxic waste and crazed freakiness, she stole the show. While popping in and out of multiple rooms and even saved our lives from the psycho bus driver and his horror trivia. Each character we encountered was complete, matched their surroundings, and made us feel like part of their world.

The Underworld does not have a shortage of scares and uses the best scare tactics in the haunt industry. The scares at Jackson’s Underworld come fast and from all directions. From scare actors crawling through bus hatches above to sliding and attacking below, nowhere is safe. However, jump scares are not the only way The Underworld will test you; from spiders and claustrophobia to, well, let us say do not look down. They play on phobias, some you are aware, and some you are just discovering. However, certain scares were predictable, with the classic around-the-corner jump scare or the cliché, “Get out!” We found fun within the owner’s realization that people truly are afraid of clowns when they started seeing people pass by the original Psycho Vision clown haunt. So how do you fix that? You make a single haunt that forces everyone to enjoy (or not) those colorful psychopaths!

Since 2022, the attraction has had only one ticket price. Tickets run $35.00, with a VIP option to ease those long lines later in the season for $55.00. They also offer special rates for groups of ten or more. It took us exactly 30 minutes to find our way out of the labyrinth that is Jackson’s Underworld, bringing the MPD (Minutes Per Dollar) to .91, just below the 1 MPD score we like to see. However, do not let that deter you from visiting this fantastic attraction this upcoming season. There are ghouls and goblins, scares, and surprises packed into those 30 minutes! Enjoy cold drinks and snacks in the basement area, and make sure to take lots of photos, with the photo opportunities awaiting you at the beginning and end of the haunt. Do not forget to grab that Underworld swag from the gift shop! Overall, our experience at Jackson’s Underworld was fantastic, and we would absolutely recommend checking them out this spooky season!
