Summary

Factory of Terror in Ohio brought the energy this year, delivering a packed night of haunted entertainment even as Sweetest Day crowds put the attraction to the test. With four themed haunted houses, the Grimm Woods walkthrough, and a building full of monsters, elaborate sets, and clever effects, there was no shortage of things to see or reasons to scream. The actors stood out for their timing, turning detailed scenes into memorable encounters, while new effects and updated sets gave familiar spaces some fresh surprises. Beyond the haunts, themed bars, games, a dance floor, tarot readings, and the Screamshop make… Read More…

We got to see the Factory of Terror stress-tested this year as our visit landed on Sweetest Day. Parking lots were packed, lines were long, and the energy was very high. The Factory of Terror has an excellent website that covers everything from ticket pricing to parking; we recommend checking it out before you go so you know where the paid and free lots are and where to head to get started. On nights like the one we attended, there’s also an option to reserve a VIP parking space right up front, which is a good idea because the lots… Read More…

Immersion8.69

Factory of Terror always excels at immersion in their haunts and the common areas inside. The sprawling building looks exactly like what it is: an old, haunted factory that you are going into whether you should or not. You’ll see other locations when you get inside, including the depths of the ocean, a bit of the Underworld, and a twisted outdoor scene with a show-stopping creature before a grand window. Each house within the Factory of Terror (there are four in total, as well as a walkthrough of retired set pieces and more called Grimm Woods that’s more family-friendly) has… Read More…

Special Effects8.88

Over the years, the Factory has built up some of its scenes to a point where the only undecorated part is the floor you walk on. Sometimes not even that. This year we saw a lighting effect at the beginning of Massacre on Mahoning that we won’t spoil, but it was reality-altering and amazing. There were several updates to their sets this year, as well as some improvements to the French Quarter center area, and it appears that Dracula has decided to set up a castle along with his brides. There was a new creature in the Forsaken Asylum of… Read More…

Characters9.06

The Factory was packed with monsters this year, and as always, no one goes out into the haunt without some form of costume or makeup design. There was an incredible variety of monsters, but what impressed us the most was how good their timing was this year. We had one monster in Industrial that slowly tracked our first person, eye contact the whole way, and just as we hit peak paranoia, they struck, screeching and terrifying. An actor running a huge rat managed to trick one of our members into staring directly down its muzzle before lunging for them and… Read More…

Scare Factor8.8

We had groups in front of us and behind us screaming all night long. From the timing of the actors this year to the integration of new set pieces and effects, the Factory was firing on all cylinders despite the massive volume of guests, and they did not miss. Even our group got a spooking, thank you again, Rat Person! From well-timed reaches in the graveyard entrance to the thrilling slide, there are all kinds of scares to be had here. For an extra fun time, tell the monsters the names of your most easily frightened friends, as this year… Read More…

Value8.89

It felt like the unofficial theme this year was “More.” More offerings for customers, more monsters, more rooms, more tricks, more screams, more skeletons, and more high-energy fun. The Factory offers a total experience, with haunted houses, themed bars, a dance floor, games like axe throwing and bowling, and a Screamshop where Sondra has been selling us some of the coolest T-shirts we own for ten years, and every time, she’s greeted us with a smile and talked to us even though we are kind of weird. We also recommend bringing $10 to get a Tarot reading from some of… Read More…
