Our experience in Folklore began with a few queue line actors roaming the outdoor areas. While a few additional performers would have made the midway area even more lively, we were told that the cast grows as the season progresses. While a few additional performers would have made the midway area even more lively, we were told that the cast grows as the season progresses. One particularly memorable character was Larry, a homeless gentleman who was more than happy to talk about his brothers and seemed to have an endless supply of dad-style jokes. His willingness to interact and entertain guests made him stand out before we even entered the attractions.
Inside Winter’s Estate, the longer of the two haunts, actors felt a little more spread out, with some sizable gaps between encounters and a few larger rooms where a single performer covered multiple paths. Maze of Madness offered quite a different experience, with actors seemingly around every corner and a lively presence in nearly every scene, although the attraction itself was considerably shorter. The performers across both haunts were generally engaging, with only a few relying primarily on familiar grunts, growls, and yells. While the character variety wasn’t especially extensive within each themed section, the performers generally fit their surroundings and helped support the atmosphere.
Costumes, masks, and makeup generally suited the characters being portrayed, with just a few minor details catching our attention, such as some visible mask straps and a brain mask that was slightly less detailed than the surrounding effects. We also noticed one actor wearing regular shoes and a noticeable perfume scent, small details that stood out a bit from the otherwise well-developed scenes. These were minor distractions overall, and the cast still provided several enjoyable interactions. Another highlight came at Maze of Madness, where a clown challenged everyone in our group to a game of rock, paper, scissors – a fun, unexpected interaction that added some personality to the encounter. Overall, the cast brought energy and memorable moments to both attractions, with Maze of Madness standing out for its consistently active performer presence.
