This is a list of the top 13 haunted attractions with the overall highest scores out of all the haunts that were reviewed in 2018. Over 100 haunted houses were reviewed by The Scare Factor last year! One of our professional review teams personally visited and rated each of these attractions. This is not a fan-voted list. If you’re near any of these during the 2019 season, be sure to pay them a visit!


13. The Dent Schoolhouse – Cincinnati, OH

The Dent Schoolhouse is a nationally recognized haunted house attraction that takes place in an abandoned schoolhouse. In 2018, our professional review team, Team Zombillies, decided it was time to visit the classroom again to review this haunt. Overall, Dent scored a 9.37 out of 10 on the review!

12. DementedFX – Holyoke, MA

DementedFX features 20,000 square feet of “giant monsters, Hollywood quality sets and props, surrounded by hair-raising sound design and interactive video that’s sure to send you home with no voice!”

Last season, our professional haunted house review team, Team Hallowoosh, reviewed this attraction and gave them an overall score of 9.43 out of 10!

11. Reapers Revenge – Scranton, PA

Reapers Revenge Attraction and Hayride features 4 terrifying haunts. In 2018, this event was reviewed by one of our professional review teams and they scored an overall 9.44 out of 10!

10. Evil Intentions Haunted House – Elgin, IL

Evil Intentions takes place in the site of the Old Elgin Casket Factory, a multi-level building consisting of 55,000 square feet!

In 2018, our professional review team, Team White City Devils, scored Evil Intentions an overall score of 9.47 out of 10! This is the second-highest score of all the haunts reviewed in Illinois last year.

9. The Haunted Hotel – Louisville, KY

The Haunted Hotel is a full-touch, intense and in-your-face haunted attraction in downtown Louisville. If you don’t like your personal bubble invaded, this may not be the place for you. The attraction takes place in a 2-story authentic building that every haunt-lover must see!

In 2018, the Hotel was reviewed by Team Zombillies and received an overall score of 9.49 out of 10!

8. HellsGate Haunted House – Lockport, IL

HellsGate Haunted House was visited by our professional haunted house review team in 2018 and they took home the highest overall score in Illinois with a 9.49 out of 10!

At HellsGate, guests will make their way through a dark and haunted forest to find a hidden haunted house. Just remember, if you find the key, your ticket is free!

7. Ominous Descent – Plant City, FL

Ominous Descent received an overall review score of 9.49 out of 10! This attraction shares a location with Sir Henry’s Haunted Trail at the I4 Premier Fear Park.

6. Carnage Haunted House – Columbus, OH

Carnage Haunted House is a newer attraction to the Ohio scene. At this attraction, anyone under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult. In 2018, this attraction was reviewed by one of our professional teams and they scored an overall 9.51 out of 10!

5. The 13th Gate – Baton Rouge, LA

The 13th Gate was reviewed by our professional review team last year, Team Giraffic Shark, and this haunt scored an overall 9.51 out of 10!!

Their opening night for 2019 is September 27th. On November 1st and 2nd they will be open for “Flashlight Fright Nights.”

4. The 17th Door – Fullerton, CA

The 17th Door is one of California’s most intense haunted houses offering around 35 minutes of interactive terror! This haunt is so extreme you must sign a waiver before entering.

In 2018, our professional review team, Team Elm Street Dreamers, was brave enough to face the attraction. Overall, the haunt scored a 9.53 out of 10 and a 9.75 for scariness! Now that’s one scary show!

3. Purgatory Scream Park – Kingwood, TX

Purgatory Scream Park, previously known as Kingwood Asylum, is said to be over 40 minutes long and spans over 27,000 square feet! In 2018, one of our professional review teams visited this attraction and they received an overall 9.63 out of 10!

2. Creepy Hollow Haunted House – Rosharon, TX

Creepy Hollow Haunted House features multiple attractions at one location. It is also home to some nationally recognized characters including Rellik the Clown! In 2018, they were reviewed by one of our review teams and they received an overall score of 9.68 out of 10!

1. Legends of Fear – Shelton, CT

Legends of Fear was ranked number 1 out of all haunts reviewed by The Scare Factor in 2018! Their overall score from our review team, Team Hallowoosh, was a 9.69 out of 10!

This haunted attraction and farm takes place at the Fairview Tree Farm. Guests can experience a variety of haunts from the Haunted Hayride and Hemlock Manor Mortuary to the Pine Hills Parish and the Dark Harvest.
