Immersion8.81

The immersion at Haunted Hills Farm Trail and Hayride begins before guests even reach the attractions, with the entrance queue passing through a large facade where a few actors lurk among the scenery. Once on the trail, guests enter a small building where staff explain the rules and a short video introduces the story of the farm that the trail winds through. This introductory area establishes the background for the experience, although having the staff deliver their instructions in character could help maintain the atmosphere from the very beginning. From there, the trail winds through the woods, passing through a… Read More…

Special Effects8.27

Haunted Hills Farm Trail and Hayride make effective use of the natural darkness and shadows provided by its wooded setting, allowing the environment itself to contribute to the atmosphere. Lighting can be challenging in an outdoor location like this, particularly given the terrain and access to power, but the various structures featured different levels of accent lighting, while occasional lights along the trail helped guide guests through the woods. One section featured lights scattered among the trees that flashed in sequence to simulate a thunderstorm, creating a memorable visual effect. Strobes and fog were also used in several areas to… Read More…

Characters7.62

The cast at Haunted Hills Farm Trail and Hayride provided a variety of encounters throughout the experience, although there were some longer stretches of trail where actors were less frequent. We did encounter at least one performer in each scene, with most relying on familiar jump-scare techniques such as growling and yelling, along with the occasional classic “fresh meat” line. Costuming wasn’t especially varied, but the outfits generally fit their respective themes, and most characters wore masks. The makeup we saw was also well done. A few details, such as regular eyeglasses and everyday sneakers, stood out here and there,… Read More…

Scare Factor7.97

Haunted Hills Farm Trail and Hayride offered plenty of scares throughout its various scenes, although there were some longer stretches between encounters that allowed the intensity to ease a bit. The actors generally tried to engage everyone in the group, and a few seemed to deliberately save their scares for the last person in line. This worked particularly well, catching us off guard just when we thought we might have made it through a scene unscathed! The experience wrapped up with a trip through a laser swamp, where a chainsaw-wielding character lurked among the effects to provide one final scare.… Read More…

Value8.71

Our walkthrough at Haunted Hills Farm Trail and Hayride lasted 32 minutes, and with general admission priced at $30 on the night we attended, that works out to an MPD (minutes per dollar) of 1.07. This represents respectable value compared to many of the haunts we visit. Admission also includes access to the midway, where guests can enjoy seating areas, firepits, several photo opportunities, and interactions with roaming characters before or after the attractions. Another advantage is the farm’s location away from city lights, allowing the wooded trail to retain much of its natural darkness and adding to the atmosphere… Read More…
