Summary

The Culbertson Mansion, literally a haunted house, is in its 26th year of operation and as always things are a little different this year. Witness the beauty of this state historical site and pay your respects to the late Mr. Culbertson before embarking on a tour that reveals what really happens after dark at the Culbertson Mansion, where some memories are better left dead.

Cast8.66

All members of the Mansion’s cast are volunteers and trained in-house by their veteran spooks, some of whom have 10+ years of experience. Even though they have almost a 50% turnover rate, they still manage to keep the actors eager to scare every season. Having between 30-60 actors for this 5,000 sq. ft. haunt ensures that there are plenty of actors inside the haunt as well as enough outside to keep you entertained while waiting in line. All actors are original and fulfill their roles in each horrific scene from the moment you step into line.

Costuming9.13

Excellent costuming! Every actor’s costumes ties into their relative scenes very well. The majority of their costumes are very realistic and have a lot of effort put into them. What few masks are used fit the characters quite well. Makeup is provided either by themselves, or by their Director who is an experienced airbrush artist and is very talented.

Customer Service9.63

Safety is of up-most importance at this attraction. Every group is told a list of rules which they are ask to follow. All inspections and permits are up to date and there are clear emergency exits marked throughout the haunt. There are some dark places, uneven ground, and stairs to negotiate. Very few signs advertising the haunt for its location until you arrive. All staff were very friendly and available to ask questions, and very helpful in the haunt when one of our group members couldn’t make it through certain parts. When you purchase tickets make sure you check out… Read More…

Atmosphere8.63

First of all the Mansion is really haunted so being on the lawn of the Mansion is spooky by itself. The carnival style tent where the waiting line is will keep you wondering just what kind of creatures lurk within the walls you are about to enter. Although there wasn’t any music, there were plenty of scare hungry actors roaming about outside for your entertainment. The Mansion is conveniently located in downtown New Albany. There is parking available next to and behind the Mansion.

Special Effects8.5

Most of the special effects throughout this haunt were created by the staff. Though there are few animatronics or mechanical effects, they make up for this by using traditional effects. You will not see most of their effects anywhere else. All proceeds go towards restoring the Mansion. They don’t have a big budget to put into the haunt like some, but they still work very hard to change the haunt every year.

Theme8.88

This haunts theme is a dark, deranged freak show where you never know what you might see!

Scare Factor8.88

This group uses a combination of scare tactics ranging from intimidation techniques to magic and in your face assaults. There may be times where you are wondering if everyone in your group will make it out alive. Be aware of your surroundings, this cast is known for drawing your attention away from what you should really be afraid of. Each individual in a group will have their chance to be frightened because they go for everyone in the group not just the first or last person. Although we can’t give away any clues, volunteers may be chosen from your group… Read More…
