Scoring Criteria Transition: 2026 sits right at a change in our review categories and weighting, so this score isn’t an apples-to-apples comparison to reviews from nearby years under different criteria; worth keeping in mind if you’re tracking a haunt’s rating over time.

Summary

The scariest thing about a nightmare isn’t what you see while you’re asleep… It’s wondering whether that thing you perceived is still waiting and watching, even after you wake up. On a secluded back road in China Township stands a sinister locale that will make your nightmares a reality. Nightmares From Hell returns after a two-year hiatus, moving to a new, larger location that lets them expand from their previous 6,000 sq ft to a spacious 10,000 sq ft indoor attraction. The self-titled haunt takes you through many twists and turns straight into the pits of hell, where you meet… Read More…

Half the group zipped right into the driveway and into parking. The other half got there early and experienced a little confusion about where to go and park. Let’s just say if you don’t get there before dusk, the big cutesy-poo blow-up witch above the Haunted House sign will be lit up, an attendant will be on hand, and you should be directed to the parking area with no problem. Head up front like we did if you want to partake of the awesome all-year Halloween store featuring a fine selection of masks, props, gags, decorations, costumes, and even some… Read More…

Immersion6.27

The grounds of Nightmares from Hell rocked some nice spooky mojo. A couple of wicked glowing props, a pumpkin head and a crow head, stood sentry over the parking entrance. Decrepit hearses jazzed up the joint. A giant coffin and a winged demon in a photo op both loomed over us. The crew started a fire that threw more shadows into the mix. The dark ‘n’ creepy, abandoned warehouse vibe of the structure housing the haunt felt rather foreboding as our group entered the building. Inside the attraction, the transitions could sometimes be abrupt, and the view above the walls… Read More…

Special Effects6.39

Nightmares from Hell have that traditional haunt vibe, with minimal animatronics but an endless bag of off-the-wall tricks. Each scene is its own room of horror, strategically designed to deliver scares or force you into an interactive experience that makes you find hidden doors and passageways. The witches’ cabin was dimly lit by flickering candles and littered with bones arranged into pentagrams and satanic symbols. One of our favorite scenes was the shipwreck room, where you encounter a full-size boat capsized by a huge octopus. Bloodthirsty sharks hunt those very waters, and beware the megalodon, your next meal. Just remember… Read More…

As we walked midway to buy tickets, a ghostly friend met us. Wearing an old, tattered-looking cloak and eyes that showed his lack of soul, he quickly welcomed us to his final resting place. With his inquisitive points and jabs, he made it very easy to get in a spooky mood. Working our way through the haunt, we stumbled across a witch. Normal, we know, but this one has a secret… The way out! Good luck finding your way through, as she’s not too helpful and only wants one thing: to use you for her next potion. As we figured… Read More…

Scare Factor7.21

Nightmares from Hell had one or another of our group of four jumping out of our shoes on occasion. It fell a tad more to the fun side of the haunt spectrum than the shaking in your boot’s variety – the fun factor here was high and we laughed a lot but mixed in some screams. Effects-wise, the bizarre soundtrack and the sinister satanic and demonic theming created an air of unease. Walking through a casket door felt like walking over our grave. A clutch of clingy cobwebs stuck so much that one of us had a panicky little tantrum… Read More…

Value6.9

We weathered this nightmare trip in 16 minutes. Put against the general admission cost of $25, the MPD – or minutes per dollar spent inside the actual attraction – came out to 0.64. This is somewhat lower than we are used to and below the standard 1.0 ratio we typically want to see, but we have noticed that’s the case with many of the haunts in the Detroit metro area, so it does not seem too far out of line with the region as a whole. In any case, we had a great time. It’s an ideal place to spend… Read More…
