SCarowinds Halloween Haunt Review (2026)

The guest experience at SCarowinds was smooth and well managed from start to finish. Finding accurate information before our visit was completely hassle-free. The official website clearly lays out the park details, operating hours, ticket options, and pricing, so we knew what to expect before we even arrived. Getting to the park and through the parking gates was just as easy, with clear signage making the arrival process simple and straightforward.

Once we were inside the gates, navigating the park couldn’t have been easier. The layout is essentially one large continuous loop, so it’s pretty hard to get turned around or completely lost while making your way through the park. The park map was also easy to follow and clearly marked the locations of the different haunts, scare zones, shows, and other attractions.

The entry process was organized and moved along well. Ticketing was straightforward, and the queue flow was easy to understand without feeling overly confusing or chaotic. One area where we think there is room for improvement is the entertainment in the individual haunt queues. There weren’t a lot of queue actors interacting with guests, so at some of the attractions, you’re essentially just standing in line looking at the outside of the building if the wait is long. Silver Scream and Slaughter House both had an actor outside in the queue area, which helped make the wait more entertaining. Paranormal Inc. also had a couple of actors out front interacting with guests before entering the actual queue. Other attractions, such as Conjuring, Jason, and Tooth Fairy, had less going on in the queue area, so adding more actors or other interactive elements could help keep guests engaged during longer waits.

Throughout our visit, the entire property was clean and well maintained, which is no small thing for an event of this size. The staff members we interacted with were friendly, professional, and willing to help whenever we had a question or needed directions. Overall, the organization, cleanliness, staff, signage, and easy-to-navigate layout made the operational side of SCarowinds feel very well managed and made for a stress-free evening. With a little more entertainment built into some of the individual queue lines, the guest experience could be even stronger.

The immersive atmosphere at SCarowinds had some really strong moments, although there is definitely an opportunity to make the experience even more cohesive from attraction to attraction. The exteriors of the haunt buildings varied quite a bit. Some had more theming and visual elements that immediately gave you a feel for what you were about to experience, while others were a little more basic. Conjuring, Jason’s Blood Reign, and Tooth Fairy could each benefit from a little more exterior theming to help build anticipation before guests enter. Even adding some small details could go a long way toward setting the tone and getting guests excited for what’s inside.

Once inside the haunts, there were some great examples of storytelling and immersion. Conjuring had a strong storyline and did a great job keeping you immersed as you moved from room to room. Jason flowed well from scene to scene and took you through different Friday the 13th movies, although the conga line did make it a little harder to stay completely immersed at times. Paranormal Inc. was one of the strongest examples of consistent immersion. The ghost hunter storyline was easy to follow, the scenes flowed well, and keeping groups separated allowed you to stay in your own experience without constantly seeing the group ahead of you.

Tooth Fairy also did a good job carrying its theme throughout the haunt, even though the dentist storyline itself was just okay. Slaughterhouse was more focused on the scares than having a traditional storyline, and there were a few areas where adding more actors could help keep the energy going. Silver Scream had some fun movie-themed moments, although the different themes didn’t always feel like they connected into one cohesive story, and there were a few areas of dead space.

The transitions out of the haunts had some fun elements as well. Conjuring brought you into a cool, themed gift shop, which gave you something interesting to experience before heading back into the park. Jason exited near the sounds of chainsaws from a nearby scare zone, which helped keep some of that adrenaline going even though it wasn’t part of the haunt itself. Silver Scream continued the theater theme with the box office area, while Slaughterhouse kept the energy going with the chainsaw character outside. Paranormal Inc. sent you into an alley before returning you to the midway, giving you one last atmospheric moment before you were back in the park.

Overall, there are some really strong immersive experiences at SCarowinds, particularly when it comes to attractions like Paranormal Inc. and Conjuring. The biggest opportunity is consistency. Bringing a little more attention to the exterior theming and creating stronger connections between the attractions and their surroundings could make the overall event feel even more immersive. The nearby scare zones also help keep the Halloween atmosphere going as guests move.

The special effects were one of the stronger parts of SCarowinds, and you could tell a lot of thought went into bringing each attraction to life. The audio design in particular stood out. The sound effects throughout the haunts were really well done, with Conjuring, Jason, and Paranormal doing a great job timing their scares with the audio to catch you off guard.

The scene design was also really strong in several of the haunts. Conjuring had some incredibly realistic and creative sets that actually made you interact with the environment, including crawling through spaces and squeezing through tight closets that added to the claustrophobic feeling. Jason did a great job capturing the look and feel of the franchise, and even the sensory details were there. The smell of fresh pine throughout the haunt was such a cool touch and really helped make you feel like you were walking through the woods of Camp Crystal Lake.

Slaughterhouse used intense red lighting to really highlight the gore and scattered body parts throughout the scenes, while Tooth Fairy had plenty of practical effects, including loose teeth and some pretty messy gore. Paranormal brought some bigger spectacle into the mix with impressive aerial effects that made characters appear to fly across the room.

Animatronics were also used effectively in several of the haunts, particularly Paranormal, Jason, and Conjuring. The lighting and overall atmosphere were strong throughout the event as well. Heavy fog, strobes, and carefully placed lighting helped create the right mood in each attraction and kept you disoriented as you moved through the scenes.

Overall, the special effects showed a lot of creativity and attention to detail, with several attractions really standing out for their combination of practical effects, audio, lighting, and set design. Silver Scream was the one attraction that felt a little more dated compared to the others, and some updated effects and technical elements could help bring it more in line with the level seen throughout the rest of the park. But overall, the effects were a definite highlight and added a lot to the individual haunt experiences.

The characters and actors throughout SCarowinds were another strong part of the experience. Most of the haunts were well staffed, and the actors we encountered were consistently on point, energetic, and willing to engage with guests. You could tell they were putting in the work, especially when they had the opportunity to really interact with you. Slaughterhouse and Silver Scream were the two that felt a little lighter on actors, and both had some areas where adding a few more performers could have helped keep the energy going.

There were a few times when actors relied on the same lines repeatedly or mostly screamed at guests, but they still brought good energy to their scenes. When an actor had the opportunity to interact with us or really play their character, those moments definitely stood out more.

The character work also fit the individual haunts pretty well. Conjuring stayed true to the movies with nuns, priests, and a huge stilt-walking character that we believe was the Crooked Man. Jason did a great job using different versions of Jason throughout the franchise, which was a fun touch for fans of the movies. Paranormal Inc. had a good mix of demonic ghosts and paranormal workers that fit the storyline, while Tooth Fairy featured demented dentists and patients that matched the theme. Silver Scream and Slaughterhouse had more general movie and horror-inspired characters, although the characters in those two attractions felt a little less distinctive from one another.

Costumes were generally solid and helped support the different themes. Jason and Conjuring had some of the strongest costumes, with characters that were immediately recognizable and felt true to their source material. Tooth Fairy, Paranormal, and Slaughterhouse leaned more heavily on basic makeup, blood, and gore to create their looks, while Silver Scream’s costumes were a little more basic. The masks throughout the event were generally pretty detailed and added another layer to the characters.

Overall, the actors were clearly putting in the effort and brought a lot of energy to the event. Adding a few more performers in some of the lighter-staffed attractions and giving actors a little more variety in their interactions could take the character experience even further, but there were definitely some memorable characters and performances throughout the night.

When it came to the actual scare factor, there was definitely a pretty big range between the different haunts. Tooth Fairy was surprisingly relentless and had some genuinely scary moments. The actors weren’t afraid to get right in your face, and the scares kept coming throughout the haunt. Paranormal Inc. also did a really good job keeping you on edge. Actors could come at you from all different angles, there were some really loud noises, and the darkness made it hard to know where the next scare was coming from.

Conjuring was easily the scariest haunt for us. It was fast paced from beginning to end, the actors got right up close and even touched you, and there were some really tight spaces that added another level of suspense. The loud noises and audience participation also kept you guessing about what was coming next. The finale was especially good and was a great way to end the haunt.

Jason was still really scary despite the conga line. There were a lot of different angles to the scares, plenty of loud noises and pop outs, and the timing was really good. The biggest difference between Jason and Conjuring was predictability. Jason was very well timed, but once you got into the rhythm of the haunt, some of the scares were easier to anticipate.

Silver Scream was probably the least scary for us. The actors were working hard, but there just wasn’t quite enough for them to work with in the haunt itself. A lot of the scares felt predictable, so you could see them coming. Slaughterhouse was also on the less scary side. There were some good moments, but there were noticeable dead spots and the chainsaw scares weren’t always reliable. A lot of the scares felt similar, so there wasn’t as much variety to keep you guessing.

Paranormal did a great job mixing up its scares. You had actors coming from different directions, loud noises, darkness, and some bigger effects, and the timing was really well done. The variety kept you from knowing exactly what was coming next. The Tooth Fairy also did a good job of keeping you guessing because the scares changed from scene to scene rather than relying on the same type of scare over and over.

One thing I thought all of the haunts did well was making sure there were scares for everyone in the group. Some were definitely more intense than others, but you weren’t just watching the person in front of you get scared. Conjuring and Paranormal had the widest variety of scares and did the best job of keeping everyone involved.

The finales were another area where there was a noticeable difference between the haunts. Conjuring had a really strong ending, and Jason also finished on a high note. Paranormal had a big animatronic at the end that gave you one more memorable moment before you walked out. Silver Scream and Slaughterhouse could both benefit from stronger finales that give you one last big scare before sending you back into the park.

Overall, Conjuring and Paranormal stood out the most for us when it came to actually being scary, mainly because of the variety, timing, and unpredictability of the scares. Tooth Fairy was also much more intense than we expected. Even when some of the other haunts weren’t as scary, the actors were still putting in the effort, and there are some relatively simple changes that could make those experiences much more effective.

SCarowinds offers a pretty wide range of pricing depending on when you visit and what kind of experience you want. While we attended media night and our admission and attractions were complimentary, we based our value calculation on what we would have paid on opening weekend.

Since we are not season pass holders, our calculation included the regular park admission, the haunted attraction passes, and the additional $15 admission that would have been required for Conjuring: Beyond Fear on opening night. The exact price can vary depending on the date you visit, with pricing generally increasing as Halloween gets closer.

For our MPD calculation, we only factored in the actual time we spent inside the haunted attractions. Our total time inside the six haunted attractions was 53 minutes, which came out to $0.64 per minute based on opening weekend pricing. That number does not include any of the time spent waiting in lines, watching entertainment, riding the rides that are open during the event, eating and drinking, or exploring the scare zones.

There is really a full night of entertainment included beyond the haunted attractions themselves. You can spend hours moving through the scare zones, checking out the shows, riding rides, grabbing food and drinks, and taking in the overall Halloween atmosphere throughout the park. Because of that, we think the overall value can be much better than the MPD number alone suggests, especially if you plan to spend several hours at SCarowinds.

The biggest factor is going to be what ticket you purchase and when you visit, since pricing can vary by date. For someone looking to experience as much of SCarowinds as possible in one night, there is quite a bit included beyond the 53 minutes we actually spent inside the haunted attractions.
